Ah yes, the recipe for burn out

And then you find out your coworkers don’t care as much as you do and you have meltdowns every two years ask me how I know

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago

Ugh this is true.

Nothing worse than you’re going on a deep rant about some niche thing in your field and you learn your coworkers (and boss) are just there to punch the clock.

When I was in big tech I’d constantly get shot down because nobody else knew what the hell I was going on about unless it was super mainstream. “Why don’t we just do the thing everyone else is” because everyone is wrong and cargo culting ideas from 10 years ago!

I like working in places where I get to go full mad scientist and it makes me so much happier. My best jobs have just had a boss who checks in once a week and let me go crazy on a project.

I'm sending out applications for a serious career change. I'd have to go through a bunch of training and stuff (again), but this time, it'll be the right career for me. I can feel it.

Maybe your true passion is job hunting

[–] TehBamski@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Haha, I need a good laugh today. Thank you.

Aren't there people who'll write CVs and cover letters for you? Maybe I could do that. Okay, new career plan!

Yup. Granted it was after I begged for money because I was going to be homeless and pants shittingly terrifying. And not something I ever want to do again because I felt so so so guilty. I used every cent to everything necessary. Hell someone was like "Get a treat!" and I was like "Fuck that. Bills." but also mostly because I couldn't stomach the idea of spending the money on anything other than what was strictly necessary because I hated myself as is

So paid but... with fine print I should have read lol

Explain. How did you achieve donations?

[–] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

I asked for them?

Voluntary jobs can be very fulfilling.

Me when I got a job working counter at train station (I got fired because I cannot figure out fulltime shifts)

[–] xylol@leminal.space 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What do you mean couldn't figure out full time shifts? Like you forgot to clock out?

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I got pretty confused with the shifts schedule. It was just a printed sheet on the wall and changed frequently. Really the main reason is someone else shared my same initials, and I just consistently showed up to the wrong shifts. Probably would have figured out a system eventually, but got canned before that happened.
