"You just uninstalled Chrome We’re sorry to see you go. Please help us improve Google Chrome by filling out this short survey. Your feedback is appreciated." And....no link to any survey provided, so I can't tell them why they can go fuck themselves. I still use Youtube non premium, with an ad blocker, but I'm open to any suggestions for a replacement site.....

The agents who implement state violence are not a group. They're agents of the state.

And now Google is directly collaborating with an oppressive autocratic regime.

Curiously, while in character, it's about the stupidest thing companies can do, at least according to Mike Brock

But yes, corporations are notoriously short-sighted when it comes to autocrats, even with a long history of ultimately getting their assets seized by the autocratic regimes they assisted into power.

I'd like to think this all might be a time to teach common end-users the joys of FOSS and, if necessary, jailbreaking, but that's still a big ask for the general public even in the face of abduction and rendition.

For the rest of my life I will never forget that Apple and Google went out of their way to defend and protect the Nazi SS of our time.

Absolutely fucking evil and unforgivable.

[–] Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 44 minutes ago

Absolutely agreed. This is the last straw for me, I'm degoogling

Not saying this about you necessarily, but the sad part is that there are millions of people who share this feeling, but will still buy the latest iPhone and browse Youtube with it.

If we had a better sense of community, people would be able to form actual boycott movements that have impact, but we've been trained to avoid other others, stay "rugged individuals" and keep our opinions to ourselves lest we face social backlash. This is all deliberate and designed.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 1 points 1 hour ago

We are far, far beyond the point of a boycott having any chance whatsoever of taking down the richest corpos in the history of the world.

[–] collar@lemmy.world 17 points 3 hours ago

Ah yes... the guys with masks, guns, the backing of the president, and virtually unlimited federal government resources are a "vulnerable group"

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

Next up: Won't anyone think of the abusers? Who's the true victim of domestic violence?

In case anyone is wondering why an international tech giant caves so easily to the US government when the companies that own late night hosts still have them running: https://edition.cnn.com/2025/09/05/tech/google-eu-antitrust-fine-adtech

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 13 points 4 hours ago

Vulnerable my aunts fanny. They aggressively terrorize everywhere they go. Go everywhere armed to the teeth and are not in any way shape or form threatened with anything or anyone that could harm them sufficiently to put them into a threatened category. This is just google telling us whose side they are on

[–] TuffNutzes@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago

Good puppy dogs doing Dear Leader's bidding. History will remember!

[–] cley_faye@lemmy.world 20 points 6 hours ago

Isn't ICE one of the biggest budget of the US now? How is that vulnerable?

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 20 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (4 children)

Do we know yet that what ICE is doing even legal? (kidnapping, detaining, etc) I haven't followed closely enough to be sure of that. Does the actual police just sit by and watch?

[–] NotBillMurray@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

We're at that point where we have started to realize that laws are just words on paper unless someone enforces them.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

The next step is to realize that money is just numbers on paper.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

we know it's not legal, but who's going to be do anything about it?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

They cheer and provide support. ACAB = All Cops Are Bastards

[–] Johnmannesca@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

1312 is another good way of subvert messaging because it can be mistook as the international and area codes for Chicago, IL

[–] Limonene@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago

Going into an apartment complex, arresting everyone there including children, including US citizens, without a warrant? That's illegal. But there's nothing you can do about it except sue them afterwards.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 23 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

They're totally vulnerable! Just aim for the head!

[–] crandlecan@mander.xyz 1 points 2 hours ago

That worked!! 👍

Someone recommended Kagi in another thread yesterday and that night I finally became 100% google free. Search was the last big hurdle. I was literally the biggest google fanboy. I had google home devices, google wifi, I wanted all their devices, had all their services, everything was set up and integrated. De-googling was fucking hard but I did it and I'm super proud and I've learned so much about how tech works setting up my replacement services and devices. Fuck you Google.

[–] petrol_sniff_king@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I had google home devices, google wife, I wanted all their devices

😳

[–] sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.io 5 points 3 hours ago

Lmao wife, WiFi, waifu? Where does one begin and one end I don't even know.

[–] HereIAm@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

How was search and not the usual maps the hardest? The search is what I feel like most people switch first.

[–] sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.io 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Idk I started using organicmaps (comaps now) long long ago. I guess I don't have a great fundamental understanding of search. Are not most other search engines just hopping on the back of google search engines? I honestly don't know. Its not an area I've spent a lot of time learning about - or maybe I'm just a backwards dude haha.

[–] HereIAm@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

No, that's fair play! I think you were just ahead of the curve with ditching google maps :D I use a combo of OSMAnd, Comaps, and Magic Earth (not open source, but has live traffic data).

[–] sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.io 2 points 7 hours ago

Nisce I haven't heard of OSMAnd or Magic Earth I'll have to poke around!

[–] KelvarCherry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 10 hours ago

Do not let Google escape this, ever. Cancel all payments to them. YouTube Premium, YouTube subscriptions, etc.

[–] DegenerationIP@lemmy.world 11 points 9 hours ago

I cannot say how much I Wish this would be the onion..

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 59 points 13 hours ago

Calling masked, armed, armored thugs and terrorists with a disregard for the law a "vulnerable group" is a bit thick, isn't it?

Do rich cowards that give other rich assholes fealty often do what their rulers tell them?! 1111?

Any web based alternatives? App stores aren’t needed here and it’s a lot harder to stop a website.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 70 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The irony is so rich.

To anyone that had doubts about governments putting restrictions on app stores, here is your proof. The level of power the current situation grants this duopoly is excessive and dangerous.

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I thought we had all the proof we needed when Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai were snuggling up to Trump at dinners and the inauguration

So this could get much more serious if they start clamping down on the comm tools we take for granted. Between this and the incoming sideloading block - all of a sudden the most paranoid fears of Stallman's don't seem nearly as far fetched.

[–] twice_hatch@midwest.social 85 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

Oh no, vulnerable 🥺 they need DEI? They need to be a protected class? 🥺

Surveillance is suddenly wrong when it's the peasants surveiling wannabe samurai? 🥺

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 13 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Can I just be "that guy" and point out the CEO of Google is "Sundar Puchai"?

Who do you think Trump is coming for, you fucking idiot? It's not guys like me named "David".

I hate this. I hate that they are targeting "minorities", or Hispanics, or Indian folks... But many people in charge who are part of these groups don't even care. They think they are special. You're money doesn't make you immune, you complete goddamn waste of oxygen.

We're trying to fucking help you. Stop condemning fellow human beings for the sake of profits. You are damning your children, and your family. You are selling them for gains. We hate you, and so do your children.

Rich Brahman caste Indians, or similar believe they are the ones most similar to rich white people. At least if you looked into Indian caste system, they are notoriously conservative and probably racist too. Usha, is also part of it

The 1 million dollar question: Would I be able to side load it with the new Google developer registration rules?
