3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This isn't an advice forum

Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Let’s see you got the batteries that may or may not have charge, bottle of pills, you got the dried up tube of superglue, loose fixed blade knife…

Yeah looks like you got all the basics.

I’d recommend thou that some of those screws should be lose and rattling around the drawer, and see if you can’t get a key to an old Chrysler to throw in as well. Or maybe some pogs ( or a Pokémon card. The rarer the better)

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh definitely. I did notice you’re missing a couple of rubber bands that are so old they’re kind of - melted? Or something?

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you want the melted rubber bands you got to throw in the bottle of goo-gone that’s just coated in oil. The rubber bands should be stuck to that bottle.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fair point. Oh, and the ancient ziploc with ??? in it.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The baggie needs to need worn enough to get opaque, so any time you want to remember what’s in it you have to open it and look again.

[–] percent 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

pogs

Wow, it has been a very long time since I've heard or seen any mention if those

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I had the make you’re own pog machine growing up. It was pretty awesome.

[–] percent 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Same! I made some cool custom pogs from magazine cutouts

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

what if instead of a wine and art class there was a place you just go with your friends, make a bunch of pogs, drink beer and play pogs again.

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Are those two identical potato mashers? Those will do very nicely to eventually fill the roll of “why the fuck won’t this drawer open??”

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nay, ‘tis a set of poultry lifters! The masher is in the main utensil drawer.

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I did not know such a device existed. Here I’ve been lifting poultry with my hands like a sucker.

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Yep, and he even remembered a loose knife! That way when you’re fishing your fingers under to try to get the drawer unblocked you can slice your hand open.

Classic junk drawer.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

TIL there are people who don't have a junk drawer in their kitchen.

What's next? Having a fridge without a freezer? A bathroom without a towel rack? A bedroom without a closet?

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

I assume these are lizard people. Or skin sacks full of spider aliens like Ted Cruz

[–] rouxdoo@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Very nice but you realize it's going to grow, right? I recently repacked my junk armoire to make some space for actual clothes.

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I went all junk drawers a few years ago. Every drawer in the house. It might be an adhd thing

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

I do, and I’m ok with it 😂

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

That’s a terrible junk drawer. Totally needs a few rubber bands, some paper clips, a thumb tack and a small screwdriver that won’t fit any actual screws. The anti-diarrhea medicine is on point though.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's also missing appliance manuals, screwdrivers and a hammer, plus random fast food sauce packets and straws.

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And bread ties, I wouldn’t keep sauce packets in my home junk drawer though but I hear you on the straws

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Hey I don't intentionally put them there. They just end up there sometimes, okay? :P

That said, I know someone who intentionally puts their sauce packets in the junk drawer. But FWIW they stick them in plastic zipper bags first.

Dude. Now I know where to put my light bulbs!

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

No no, not actual light bulbs - ridiculous ones you’ll never use like that spare incandescent Maglite one from 1992. Oh and the night light one from ?? Both of which have a 30% chance of working.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

30% is generous

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 5 points 1 month ago

My secret is, all my drawers are junk drawers

[–] fubarx@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's not realistic.

  • Remove contents of plastic bag and randomly toss them around.
  • Need dozens of loose rubber bands, half of them dried up, and at least one frayed USB cable.
  • That medicine better be at least two years past expiration date.

Kudos on the loose, sharp knife.

[–] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Where's the plastic bag full of keys?

[Scrolling back to make sure I upvoted.]

[–] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good attempt, though the hand blender needs to go at the back of the corner cupboard, just near enough that you can still see it, but far enough back that it's a pain to get out without removing several other items. Pills go in the medicine cupboard.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My medicine cupboard is very small, and needs to be replaced, and is very full

[–] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

Ah, overspill, it's just perfect then.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You need to make sure that the macerator is in such a position that you'll never be able to get the drawer back open.

[–] Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Also get a big jar and throw in a bunch of small random metal objects like nails, screws, nuts, bolts, washers, and anything else that looks like it could hang out in this crowd. If you assemble IKEA furniture, just use this jar as a dumping place for all the spare parts and hex keys.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Hey. Those hex keys could come in handy some day. You don’t know!!

got a pen or lighter in there?

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I actually have all my pens and markers in a holder on my desk. But I could put one in there. I’ll have to see if have any lighters. So far I don’t have anything that requires combustion.

[–] kurikai@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why are pencils in that draw? Get them into that holder

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

Done and done

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

One of us! One of us!

[–] SpacePanda@mander.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

So this is just me being paranoid, but, try to keep those batteries separate. It's very unlikely, but, I've seen the aftermath of a battery fire and its crazy.

Otherwise nice drawer, you've graduated to pro when you can't get I open lol

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Needs 82 random hardware pieces from IKEA furniture.

[–] DarkSirrush@piefed.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have the same stick blender, it works pretty well - spouse made me use it to make coffee foam today even.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

It's great for caesar dressing, and other emulsions.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Get some dividers in there for the big stuff and it'll almost be organised
