Ecosia, Startpage, Qwant, SearXNG, Brave Search, Mojeek. All AI-free.

[–] rehydrate5503@lemmy.world 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I love Ecosia, but it is not AI-free. The results are, for now, but they have AI Chat as well.

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh, hey. Looks just always ignored that, apparently.

[–] rehydrate5503@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Fair. I just shudder every time AI is mentioned at work, especially when it’s the boomers talking about it.

But are you worried like susan? She said her toaster has the GPT in it. She says its like that one movie with buff german guy and the computer! What a world we live in,

All good options. I've recently changed all my devices to Ecosia. I've changed my parents to Firefox by making the desktop icon look like Chrome. Now I need to find an add-on that makes Ecosia look like Googlefor them.

Be warned though, I'm told mentioning Brave gets you shot around here.

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Yep - Why I put it so far back on the list. I'm also not a huge fan of Brave Search unless through the filter of Mullvad. It's fine, but not my daily driver.

[–] Engywuck@lemmy.zip -5 points 2 weeks ago

I use Brave and couldn't care less what people think. It's the sweet spot for someone like me that just want to see Mozilla burn.

[–] icosahedron@ttrpg.network 2 points 2 weeks ago

4get is my new favorite

[–] ApatheticCactus@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm starting to think that the AI hype bubble isn't really meant for consumers. We've mostly killed off jounalism and news, review publications are all either dead or bought and paid for. Ads are all blocked and influencers are managed. Reviews and social commentary are tricky to engineer at scale, unless you have a huge AI farm to generate a ton of fake conversations to steer people to decisions.

Now that the tech is available to everyone, it's an arms race to build a bigger one than your competitors to make it appear as though your 'side' of whatever you're pushing is the more predominant perspective.

Adding AI crap to products is just the cover story to justify the giant costs to have your own private propaganda machine.

It's about killing truth and creating a functionally if not literally idealist experience of the world rather by totally obfuscating material reality. That's what all capitalist technology is for.

that "udm14" thing it is sold like if it was the last coke in the desert, when actually you can access to that "unshitified google" or "as google look many years ago" with just clicking the "Web" tab

[–] mspencer712@programming.dev 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Agreed. “Here’s a comic and also use my totally legit web site for your search traffic”

[–] dwemthy@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's a wrapper for Google and explains how to change your browsers default search to use the magic parameter on Google, not the website itself

[–] mspencer712@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago

That doesn’t sound too bad then. Thanks.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have nothing to do with this site, I just got it recommended to me so I was sharing. Nothing more.

[–] mspencer712@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago

I get that, and I appreciate you sharing.

[–] Denjin@feddit.uk 7 points 2 weeks ago

Use ublock origin and element zap anything that has any AI shite in it, job done.

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 weeks ago

God I hate LLMs so much.

[–] miked@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm just here because there is an IASIP meme template.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't remember the episode where Dennis catches a frisbee

[–] miked@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He's throwing Mac's Famous Mac & Cheese down the hall.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are you sure he's not summoning a giant tictac with his Godlike powers?

[–] miked@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't remember that episode.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Well first of all, everything is possible under the Golden God, so jot that down.

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 10 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)
[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 22 points 2 weeks ago

They also have an AI. At least you can toggle it, but still

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

I don't find it nearly as accurate for localized results is the problem. It's sort of generic.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

That's just Bing wearing a duck hat. MS trackers and ... oh, more AI

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What if we just make one ai talk to another ai ad infinitum ? We could cost them even more than they're already losing.

I thought that's what x.com is...?

[–] Doolbs@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I just set up a fresh install of Debian on a machine, and the first thing I did with Firefox was to disable all that AI bullcrap.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Also work trying to push copilot and chatgpt because we sell those to customers.

[–] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Same for me. I get what it can do but it is not worth the trade off. I hope the industry crumbles tbh.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I don't care what it can do. It's annoying.

[–] Whirling_Ashandarei@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

~~I~~ It's refuse.

FTFY

[–] Son_of_Macha@lemmy.cafe 2 points 2 weeks ago

If you don't like the ai slop on search use a competitor instead.

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

In specialized fields, technology that broadly falls under "artificial intelligence" as in logic programs can be useful. LLMs however are not useful.

[–] Shaper@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Thank you so much!!

I don't undersand why people dislike it, I get it there are alternatives to google, still some people will want to use google and this is an awesone alternative. Also not every new website is just a leech meant to get your metadata, there are still humans trying to do cool stuff.
