Stack the apples on top of each other, and proceed to do a single spiral cut down from the top stem, out towards the edge, and then back to the center in a single fluid motion. It won't solve the problem, but it'll look damn cool

Finally, some relief

It's like Mors Mordre!, but this one just tickles you unconscious.

I completely agree with this. Old Trek at least pretended to have a debate about Right vs Wrong, and chose Right.

New Trek just choosed Right from the get-go and smiles condescendingly at Wrong for being Wrong.

Like, sure, I agree with everything it's saying. I just hate the implicit arrogance with which it says it.

Also, unrelated: Old Trek was portable! You could take the same script and turn it into theater stage production easily, losing none of the plot and gravitas. You could take it 50 years back in time and it'd still be trackable by an audience.

New Trek has way too many (often jaw-dropping) visual effects to be portable. You might be able to re-enact parts of it in a Floyd lazer show with everyone wired up for the occasional flight sequence.

This was my backup pub!

This one had a screen on every wall. You'd literally turn your head, and there'd be one right there robbing you of your attention.

If it weren't for that single window looking out into the road, you'd swear you were in a casino

Whilst good, early years services are greatly overworking their staff by sending them out to several different centres often within the same day. Sometimes it's just one worker for 20 kids. They need government investment and are instead being forced to skimp on wages and hiring only temporary staff.

I stopped in for a quiet drink at a local pub, but they were having a "we love Crystal Palace" aneurism/moment, so what should have been a nice relaxed evening turned into a shouting frenzy.

I cannot stress this enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iur9ALOuEBE (*football)

  • 20s powerdrive: I need to finish this now, and will not sleep until it's finished!
  • 30s powerdrive: I need to finish this now, but I know from experience I'm useless on no sleep, so I will sleep 5-6 hours and get back on it early tomorrow.

Ah, newspapers forced to apologise for a backpedalling government. Fantastic independent journalism. Glad we're here...

Oh I think I get it, after reading the required text. Essentially human's are assholes and have been mistreating electrons since time immemorial, but we were always covert about it. With the rise of the far-right, we're now empowered to be superliminal about our deranged tendencies towards charged particles

Mine is literally being held together by two rubber bands.

Suggestions for a new one would be most welcome. Though to be clear, I'm not asking for an idealised wallet, I'm asking for the specific one that you have now that has lasted you X years without complaint

The more worn and frayed, the better

If you were going to sell your house tomorrow, what would influence your decision the most?

Assume that the difference in money offered isn't that wide, and it comes down to personality.

Who would you want living in your house right now?

  • Married couple?
  • Same religion or beliefs ?
  • Ties to the area?
  • Type of work (Banker? Social worker?)
  • Same cultural background?
  • Has physical skills?
  • Asks a lot of questions about the house?
  • Wears formal attire?

I need ideas guys, I've got my first house viewing tomorrow and I'm pretty low on the ideal candidate ladder.

A haunting re-imagining of William Hope Hodgson's The Night Land, with themes of prophecy and reincarnation.

The above website itself has fan-drawn maps of the landscape of the Night Lands, and I love looking at it from time to time

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Buchanan

Buchanan was in a heavy metal band called Marseille which formed in 1976: they were part of the new wave of British heavy metal scene, releasing four albums and six singles, touring America and performing with Judas Priest, Nazareth and Whitesnake. The band reformed in 2009 with a performance at The Cavern Club, Liverpool.

They brought them out front and center at my local supermarket, and either they are selling like hotcakes that are constantly being replenished.... or literally no one is buying.

Investigating this further, I looked at events that were occurring in 1899 in Portugal and noted the following births:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1899_in_Portugal

  • 6 February - Jaime Gonçalves, footballer (deceased)
  • 25 February - António Pinho, footballer (deceased)
  • 21 April - José Ramos, footballer (deceased)
  • 30 April - Fernando António, footballer (deceased)
  • 10 May - Artur Paredes, guitar player (died 1980)
  • 21 August - António Leite, fencer (died 1958)
  • 26 August - Francisco Vieira, footballer (deceased)
  • 24 October - João Francisco Maia, footballer (deceased)
  • 8 November - Manuel António Vassalo e Silva, Governor-General of Portuguese India (died 1985)
  • 19 December - Fernando Santos Costa, army officer (died 1982)
  • 30 December - José Pimenta, footballer (deceased)
  • Armando Machado, fadista, guitarist, "viola" player (died 1974)
  • Jesus Muñoz Crespo, footballer (died 1979)
  • Sarmento Rodrigues, naval officer, colonist, professor (died 1979)

Coincidence? I think not. I reckon Queen Victoria new exactly how shot our chances would be in any subsequent World Cups against Portugal, and sought to minimize the damage.

Combined Cadet Force

I still have a hard time explaining this to people who don't know what it is.

Essentially, kids are "voluntarily" put into this thing after school where they dress up in uniforms and berets and forced to do marching drills.

You then pick whether you want to do Army/Navy/RAF, and you get to do some shooting drills. Guns are brought into the school (without ammo) and kids are shown how to shoot.

Every year each group goes on a summer camp type excursion where they get to fire real weapons or fly gliders or something.

And that's it.
