Why the death penalty?

Suspected Nazis should be given community service to work in soup kitchens, clean graffiti and pickup trash and such in majority black and brown neighborhoods.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 55 points 4 weeks ago

This. Fuck the death penalty. No good government kills its own people.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I watched a documentary about one who worked in a prison laundry and got better but his brother didn’t.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 18 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I know you're making a joke but if some of them get better that's still a net positive

It definitely is.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 8 points 3 weeks ago

The thing is that you better ensure they don't work or meet up with other nazis in that meantime, otherwise they might reinforce their stupid aryan bubble

[–] DrunkAnRoot@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

graffiti is a important rebellion tool though i think cleaning the sewers by hand with toothbrushes is more fitting

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

I mean, yes and no. I live where gang tags and random acts of vandalism are rather a frequent occurrence so when I say graffiti removal, I'm thinking that. Things like that only work to harm our neighborhood, defacing our storefronts and public transit and making people feel less safe in their community.

But yes, some forms of graffiti are expression and art. Nazis would take pleasure in removing that we aren't for that, of course.

Because we need to be rid of them once and for all. It's too risky to let them live

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 weeks ago

I have faith that it's possible to reform at least some of them, even if it's not everyone

A lot of what gets people into these beliefs is environmental factors and the beliefs of those around them

Do you think it's genetic? Like we will still learn about Nazis, and so long as we do there will be people who agree with it.

You need to watch Rise of the Sith

Really hate to be the shithead here but there were a lot of people without Nazi tattoos who were goaded into voting for Nazis because they got accused of shit preemptively. And the Nazis were just glad to welcome them aboard.

Yes I still blame them but also maybe we should examine that impulse a little.

[–] PillowTalk420@lemmy.world 11 points 4 weeks ago

"You fucking Nazi!"

"What? I'm not a nazi! And to prove it, I'm voting for the nazis!"

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

It’s my understanding that the Nazi party was in fact not voted into power. It was a hostile takeover.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 15 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Somewhat? The murders of political rivals were violent and the following holocaust but most things leading up to those largely happened with the German people's consent, which fascistic governments are effective at gaining.

It was pretty hostile but there was a lot of democratic process and the key thing was the ratcheting up over a good 10 years before they really went for power. They would take small pieces of power and grow their control incrementally until they had too much momentum for any other group to deal with them. Also some groups thought they could use them to their advantage and reign them in when things were sorted. They were getting the highest votes but it was a mixture of a lot of things and they pretty quickly stopped being democratic votes after the first few elections. Lots of propaganda, a large amount of coercion at least initially, some blindness and unforeseen consequences but a decent portion of the population supported the whole thing. At least that's my understanding.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

Minority, but a plurality. And then the fuckery and take over began.

[–] NaibofTabr 2 points 4 weeks ago

Everyone in the PRC supports the CCP.

It's because the ruling party is so good that everyone loves them unconditionally, of course.

[–] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You're just horny to kill people.

Kinda like a... fucking Nazi.

[–] JesusChristLover420@lemmy.sdf.org -2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

George Washington was very proud of all the people he killed, and rightly so. You need to be more patriotic.

[–] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 weeks ago

I never voted for him

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Reminds of how some self professed "anarchists" insist on capital punishment, like an unwitting opposame, to, e.g. nazis, not realising/admitting what they're really engaged in is another form of malarchy, not anarchy. Reminder, malarchism is not anarchism.

[–] derry@midwest.social 2 points 4 weeks ago

The same way they knew they were ms13 gang members, duh.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io -5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

The USAian view again:

  • you don't agree with me? you must be an enemy
  • enemies have to die

Can't be anything other than extreme. Absolutely everything is is black and what, right or wrong. You're absolutely right or you're absolutely wrong. There's no in between. Trying to find a middle ground means you're not agreeing with me --> you're a nazi/communist/liberal/tankie.

USAians man...

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 12 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not American and what you're saying doesn't make sense anyway. The US enables free speech to the point of self-destruction. Trump is in the White House now, not in prison, precisely for that reason.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io -1 points 3 weeks ago

For not being USAian, your view and reading comprehension is.
