If your friend's car looks like this, check on them. When my car was that bad it's because my mental health was in the gutter.
Had the opposite situation with a colleague. Told us his car was a mess, expected this. But he had the cleanest, most pristine, old Mercedes I have ever seen.
Those are the two types of people. Overly anal about cleaning, or overly dirty pile of trash in need of anal. I don't make the rules I just follow them
On one hand, I have adhd and depression, and my parents definitely have at least depression. So I'm used to messes everywhere up to and including not seeing the floor for a week or more at a time.
On the other hand, I feel bad when someone gets in my car and I have to move one or two items off the seat.

This is some Microsoft Word tier layout gore and I love it
I've seen this a lot with work cars and/or with people who work construction. Tbh my own car needs weekly cleaning not to resemble this because during the week you're just too tired to give a shit or clean it in the evening
My work truck looks like this most days. I spent 4-6 hours per day driving in remote areas/off-road.
I have more sensitive gear and equipment I need for my job in the back seat The bed is also usually full of equipment that is not as sensitive.
I keep a cooler full of water and several boxes of granola bars inside.
So whenever I fill up the tank, I spend a few minutes tossing trash out of the truck. It's the only way I have found to keep the pile of mess somewhat under control.
Once I year I clear out the truck and have it detailed to start fresh on the dirt buildup.
Could be worse, there's a couple cars I've seen around town that look like this. Literally only room for the driver, but visibility is gonzo

I curb this by keeping a paper grocery bag behind the passenger seat and replace it when it gets halfway.
Also just emptying it completely every oil change (3 months). Backbacks, boxes, bags, umbrellas, jackets, hats or anything random gets removed.

I always keep my cars spotless. Slightly scented, never more than a little dusty, some dirt on the carpets but nothing more.
Now my home, on the other hand. That's a fucking pigsty.

Very few things "come with" a bin. Houses don't. You generally have to buy one.
Yeah, but all houses come with a trash corner.
Here's the thing, most do altough they're small.
I've legit never seen one in a car unless you're referring to the cup holders.
They are seperate from the cup holders usually in a drawer. I have seen this in a mazda mpv, opel signum, opel astra J, ford galaxy and so on.
That's an ashtray.
They are both trash cans and ashtrays they are just a drawer or box that can be filled. I do not see the functional difference in all those cars they weren't used as ash trays because smoking in the car makes the car smell like guess what, cigarettes.
It's just a left over from when people absolutely did smoke in their cars. And that 12 volt socket in the dashboard used to come preloaded with a cigarette lighter. Cars back in the 90s were fucking rank.
I know I have burned my finger on a car cigarette lighter.
