MODERATORS
Most people don't know such a thing exists. They exist in a strange helpless state where they just assume problems cannot be solved, and put up with it. I don't know what that's like. I feel like when I was a child, I typed "get rid of ads" into the internet search and found ad blocking.
We all know people who unknowingly raw-dog the web all the time. Look at a site with their phone or PC and you'll have an aneurism.
Only on my "smart" TV.
Or something like Grayjay or any other app?
Somewhere along the way someone at YouTube realized if they made ad delivery as complex as possible, their ad customers basically can't tell if they're actually doing what they say.
Yeah, that's something people often forget about enshittification.
It starts by fucking up the user experience, sure, but on its second stage it fucks up the customers' experience too, and in its final stage it goes against even the shareholders.
Then the company dies, and the suits run off with the money, to infect and destroy other companies and eventually whole industries.
And those who use the adblockers are not coming back even if you make it just one ad per video again.

Wasn't YouTube always losing money?
It can lose money all the time, as long as it's the biggest source of video content and they cancel control your experience. They'll make up the money in every other way imaginable.
Not to mention all of the "Thanks to my sponsors, please buy their products" ad breaks inside of the videos themselves.

YouTube added a “jump ahead” button to skip sponsor segments (I think it just goes to the “most watched” area of the video; which is always right after the sponsor segments).
They really don’t want any money being made on the platform unless they’re getting a cut
Wait, what? Did they?? I've never seen that! Is it just rolling out? It seems like I see their new rollouts later than a lot of others.
If a video is popular enough there will be a button to jump to the most watched segment. Nothing to do with sponsors, but sometimes the end of the sponsored segment matches the spike. Use sponsorblock if you want to skip sponsorships reliably

Click on your profile pic and there'll be a "keyboard shortcuts" button. Generally the most useful (for me at least) are JKL, F for fullscreen, I for pop-out player, and ,/. to skip by 1 frame back/forward
I'll just block those too... and if I can't, I'll close the tab to pause the video and load it up again when I want to resume. I will never watch an ad, ever.
I avoid products that get advertised in YouTube.
I'm curious what Youtube looks like 20 years from now.

Back pre-2006, before Google bought YouTube, there were no ads. That's right, No Ads on Youtube. Then 2007 came and Google started doing us dirty. I pine for ad-free YT again. I have the issue using Invidious on PC that won't load age-restricted content (no workaround still), and NewPipe on Android occassionally wants me to sign-in to confirm I'm not a bot.
Yeah but operating at a loss while gaining market share in order to get bought out by a bigger company was/is the MO of internet companies.
I enjoyed youtube but I enjoy much more not integrating a megacorp's offerings into my life.
It is true. The majority of people I know only started using ad blockers because of Youtubes greedy ad injections.
We have accepted ads in Netflix, Amazon prime videos and YouTube, and we still use these platforms.
Everytime something like that happens, a couple of us quit the service and I read news articles about how users leave in drones and what not.
But here we are, subscribing again, watching it again and just getting used to it.
I don't know, I think these companies can just do whatever they want. We will serve.
