The only purpose of DHS is to repress Americans. The excuse they used to create it (to resolve lack of communication between intelligence services) could have been solved with a minor office in the FBI for a tiny, tiny fraction of the cost. They wanted a tool of repression and so they used a terrorist attack to fund one.

Russia really fucked us up with social media brainwashing retards

The deadly combination of Fox News and social media. Fuck everyone who has been involved in the creation of addictive social media algorithms. You are the modern Oppenheimer.

Ain’t that the truth. Too many dipshits got internet access and this is why we are here.

Not enough education

You can't say this. You can't do this. It's exactly what Trump wants. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. Stop resisting.

Bang bang bang

I have told my representative that he has made 3 oaths to the constitution. I have told him he is violating all of them. He is a representative, a marine and a lawyer.

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 9 points 1 day ago

Your representative most likely doesn't give a shit about that stuff.

You guys are witnessing fascist secret police executing people on the streets with state backing and you are acting like these people care are suddenly gonna care about rule of law.

It was fake, always was!

Democratic Party leadership will not allow this to happen. They serve the same wealthy individuals and corporations as the Republicans, and those factions need a paramilitary force to quell the inevitable uprising(s) that will result from the collapse of the American economy and constitutional order.

You are being overtaken in a pincer maneuver.

DNC haven't had more than 48 senators in 13 years, let's put 67 of them in office and then see what needs to change from there.

The DNC platform is taxing the rich and reversing the Citizens United decision.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oh, well if the platform says it then it must be true, lol!

There’s always a “Blue Dog”, or a “Blue Slip Rule”, or a Parliamentarian to help them steal defeat out of the jaws of victory. That’s not to mention the Rahm Emanuel’s, the “advisors” (the real representatives of the real DNC constituency: rich people), the fuckery around primaries and caucuses, etc.

It’s all deliberate. You have to be extremely naive to see the composite image that emerges and continue to believe otherwise.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 0 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Call their bluff. The other side doesn't even pretend to support taxing the rich or ending Citizens United. If the DNC were back in total control and disenfranchised its voters you'd be closer than ever to your accelerationist goals.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 3 points 18 hours ago

I don’t desire acceleration, it’s simply what’s happening. There is a reason why the DNC remains a private and undemocratic organization.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Okay... but wait until July when we switch over to the NIH contract.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Not gonna happen til there's a revolution

I'm up for it, every crime should be handled by real police and real courts. Although, I do think there needs to be a way to keep tabs on people who enter this nation, to prevent espionage.

[–] porkloin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Legit question, not trying to bait or criticize: how many cases of espionage do you think DHS and ICE are actually successfully investigating and preventing? My gut feeling as a US citizen who pays a reasonable amount of attention to the news is “not many” but I honestly haven’t considered it

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

DHS and ICE officers don't do shit about it but the DHS and ICE office-workers work compiling lists of people and that work would need to continue even if the rest of the organization were shut down.

AFAIK that task is not done by any other department, currently.

We do need to also do something to shut down the Trump admin and Republican push to force Police Departments to provide a database of people who don't have identification to the DHS, though. The reason being that this would interfere with criminal investigation and court proceedings.

[–] core@leminal.space 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That's what the CIA and FBI are for

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Not only are the CIA and FBI not an organizational scale to handle that number of documents and lists, but I definitely wouldn't want them to be. FBI might be okay, at least better than the CIA, but FBI is better suited to holding police accountable.

Maybe what we really need is more and smaller specialized departments.

Yeah "no borders" people aren't really part of the discourse, they exist but they are not to be taken seriously.
