THE POLICE PROBLEM

4263 readers
2366 users here now

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

I'm surprised they dumped him at all. What do they usually do with the people they take?

The Alligator Alcatraz style camps they still have?

Or CECOT?

I hate that he was taken at all, but I'm very very glad he's been returned. I can't even imagine the nightmare that awaits the people they don't give back.

I can't wait to see these smug fascist fucks in orange jump suits.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago

I want to see them in tuxedos. In pine boxes.

Unlikely to happen with the way Americans are responding to this. They're allowing this. The best they can do is issue "slamming" statements on social media and dress up as inflatable cartoon characters.

"I will dress up as an inflatable Pokémon and go shout "ICE out", that will show them and put them behind bars" - Americunts

File a lawsuit. I wonder if there are any fucking GRU agents in ICE.

[–] nothingcorporate@lemmy.today 36 points 18 hours ago

This was not an arrest: this was a kidnapping and torture. This Nazi shit has got to stop.

[–] facelessbs@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

What is the device that the ice agent is holding and focused on the person making the video?

[–] CubitOom 2 points 10 hours ago

It's a cell phone with a biometric scanning app.

According to @AmbitiousProcess@piefed.social they are using Mobile Fortify. as seen in this comment

Yeah, this was the most predictable thing ever. Did anyone else see the clip where ICE steals all the guy's shit from his shopping cart. I guarantee you they left him somewhere else after robbing him.

Maybe if they wanted to be more cruel they tortured him. Maybe they put him through the whole ICE renditioning system anyways.

There's 100% chance there have been a lot torture and assault just for the sake of it. Keep in mind these guys are basically state sponsored klan gangs. Crazy seeing history in real time.

Target is not a safe business; they collaborate with the regime.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 9 points 15 hours ago

Go to Target, be a target.

“This individual was arrested for assaulting federal law enforcement officers,” DHS posted on X. The agency has not responded to questions clarifying which individual was arrested.

RECORD EVERYTHING!

[–] CubitOom 25 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

Arrested, beaten up, and let go.

[–] douglasg14b@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

Only a matter of time before the catch and release policy omits the release part, or is updated to just "dump the corpse".

Cause that's where this is heading

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 15 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

If there weren’t videos of this, it would be his word against theirs.

[–] Digestive_Biscuit@feddit.uk 4 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

All these videos I see has some ice twat walking around with a fancy looking camera recording the shit they're doing. I can't figure out why, is it just to look intimidating or something.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

My guess is for the same reason the protestors are. They absolutely should have body cameras though.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

It's so they have something to fap to later.

[–] Digestive_Biscuit@feddit.uk 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Does it count as arresting of rights and read out and all that. Or is it arrested in an illegal way? I don't know the answer but it looked like they were kidnapping him.

[–] CubitOom 6 points 18 hours ago

I think in strictly legal terms it could be said that they detained the 17 year old after legally racially profiling him, they then brutalized him, and released him at a random parking lot. I don't think marianda rights have to be said when they are already publicly denying due process.

But I'm not a lawyer.

Often, people that are abducted by these various immigration departments are "lost" and they are never heard from again. Some might call that getting disappeared. Which I think is much more horrific than being kidnaped honestly. There are hundreds of people unaccounted for since these immigration crack downs started. I've seen theories that they maybe using the people abducted in neuralink experiments but there is not yet soild evidence of that. What there is evidence of however if a wanton abuse of power, a total disregard for human rights, and deep misunderstanding of the law past the point of ignorance and into the realm of malice.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

The right wing will lie about this or justify it, they don't care. I briefly checked out the state of things on Reddit around the time of Charlie Kirk murder and thousands of these sociopaths were literally justifying everything trump is doing.

[–] lena@gregtech.eu 44 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A bullet to the head would be perfectly reasonable for these fucks

[–] diabetic_porcupine@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

These cowards just fucking love terrorizing children.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 20 hours ago

Fixed it for you

[–] CubitOom 8 points 22 hours ago

They love to terrorize children and women

Sounds like ICE and white americans genuinely want brown skinned people to leave out of fear and loathing. This is how they do it as the boy will tell all their friends and family. And we already know there will be no consequences for these armed gangs.

[–] PineRune@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

... white americans genuinely want brown skinned people to leave out of fear and loathing.

Please don't assume that all white Americans are Nazis. ICE just executed a white American that wasn't one.

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 10 points 1 day ago

Be the consequences you want to see in the world. Organize. Arm yourselves. Form a militia. Fascists are cowards and losers, they will fold like a paper bag when met with organized resistance.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

And we already know there will be no consequences for these armed gangs.

Don't be so sure.
