Won’t be long before the entire government is filled with loyalists. I guess this is why it took Hitler a few years to really get the ball rolling.

And if they stay, they get hung because “following orders is not an excuse”
I agree we need insiders to fight back but what do you want from them? Do you expected them to be jailed, their families homeless? Trump would find a way.
So, can’t say I blame them for wanting their names clear of this, without experiencing the revenge of a madman.
EDIT: clarity
It's worth noting that almost all the rank and file just went home after the war. Nuremberg only prosecuted two hundred people. Only got 161 convictions, 37 death sentences. That's all. Everyone else got to walk away.
And if they stay, they get hung because “following orders is not an excuse”
I think ideally they'd stay and subtly fuck up the administration's plans. Like how prosecutors routinely fail to indict cops. But that's asking a lot
I'm not asking, expecting or blaming. Just making an observation.
The administration is run by ghouls. And I don't mean Walton Goggins.
Feral ghouls
If they leave: “Quitters! Now Trump will place his own stooges in the position! What a terrible move! They should have stayed and just done a bad job!”
If they stay: “I can’t believe these people can work for that regime! Where are their morals? If you take a pay check from a nazi, you are a nazi! Wait til we have our Nuremberg! Who’s just following orders then?”
There is no good answer here. I think it is scary that the position will be filled by worse people, but I also understand that when the shit hits the fan, I would prefer to be distanced from that regime. These people are individuals with families and lives we don’t understand. How long have they been pushing back against this shit? And how much is enough for an individual to endure?
I work a low-stakes job that belittles me and ignores my opinions. I could not imagine that my mental health would be better if I was also working for nazis, and the people I wanted to help saw me as a nazi too. I hope they stay safe.
Get fired, don't quit?
So, it's not like they're going to run out of prosecutors, is leaving the case to someone who doesn't have a problem with the nature of the investigation a real solution?
Also the prosecutor is supposed to take point on the focus of any investigation, bowing out is far less bad optics than the justice department outright steering an active investigation.
The only upside is as competent people leave, loyal but incompetent people have to do the work instead, which lead to outcomes like the failed Comey and James indictments....but those are hollow victories that are soon overshadowed by the next injustice
Maybe it's not that much of a matter of the common better (somebody elected Trump, after all) but a matter of personal integrity. Not everybody is willing to do anything, after all.
