I mean, if I were China I’d nab Taiwan now that the US has its hands full with stupid wars.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago (3 children)

The US talks a big game but I doubt they would do much if China actually took Taiwan. They can't afford economic sanctions and the population wouldn't want to expend troops on it.

Still China doesn't really want instability that close to home. Far more likely to take the Hongkong approach.

Eh, I could've easily seen Biden sending troops. He was pretty adamant about Taiwan. Trump? They write him a check and he'll probably roll out the red carpet for them.

What? I thought Muricans were all about fighting communism... while buying all their shit on Weesh and Timu.

The Hong Kong approach? There is no agreement for Taiwan to be ceded back to them in 100 years.

I just meant the " promise to do everything by the book and don't rock the boat while you slow walk everything in your desired direction"

[–] somethingsnappy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Won't happen slowly unless they infiltrate the Taiwan government. Unlikely.

It's not super clear from the article but it sounds like they're saying the "increase" in military activity is just a return to previous levels after a lull? Bit sensationalist if that's the case.

What? Did you read the article? We don't do that here!

[–] liuther9@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Should be upvoted more

Oh, boy. Here we go.

So, if the "No new wars" President kicks off WWIII, will MAGA finally abandon him in significant numbers?

[–] Dionysus@leminal.space 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

HAHAHAHAHAHA

^no.. they won't^

[–] Marthirial@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

correct, but we could use the distraction to start a civil war. Everyone knows the solution to war is more war.

[–] kunaltyagi@programming.dev 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No. Why? Just because China attacked Taiwan? It's an internal matter /S

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

Just an excursion, presumably.

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Probably just scream that Kamala would have done the same thing, but worse.

[–] yogurt@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

"Taiwan reports China resuming normal military aircraft presence after pausing because of Iran"

[–] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

So it begins

[–] ol_capt_joe@piefed.ee 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So what's plan B, torch all the chip factories and relocate to EU?

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 week ago

Hasn't the plan always been torch them, just never ever worked out the after plan?
