I constantly seek new music. I do try to stick with artists/albums for a few weeks in order to actually build a "relationship", if you will, in the way physical media used to do it. I don't quite build the sequential memory anymore, but I'm at least proud I can identify obscure bands in a shuffle.

As for variety, the genres are all over. I gravitate towards metal. Maybe numetal. But, it's not just the instruments or specific genre, it's the mood and melody. When I worked to compile my ultimate "radio" playlist, I realized it's way less diverse than I thought. It's mostly heavy and sad, even what I call pump up jams. Might not be outright sad, but the melodies are usually downward. At least, that's how it feels. I also appreciate a good buildup. Not a tease before a drop, but stacking more instrumental layers as it continues. Love Deadmau5 for that.

I used to think I had very eclectic taste in music. I like old rock and progressive rock and new wave and alternative and eventually I realized my ecletic music was all sorta the same kind of thing evolving through the ages. I like the rock beat but love when it has varied or unusual instruments and were melody is important and it has meaning in the songs.

I’m very picky in the sense that I want to enjoy a whole album, or multiple albums from one artist. I don’t care about singles. I love finding new artists but it’s exhausting to search. Most recent search netted me The Cat Empire and alt-J, but this was back in 2018 or so. Usually when I want new music I can just get new albums from artists I already like. Then, every once in a while I’m sorely disappointed like when Arctic Monkeys decided they’re an elevator rock band (2018).

I constantly seek out new music and pick it up from everywhere. Currently on a folk punk kick, before that it was Billboard Top 100 stuff from the 60's and 70's, before that it was hyperpop. I ask that anyone who wants to get me a gift instead make me a mix CD, I've got enough physical stuff.

But I listen to the new music mixed into the old music. Recently using shuffle, but before iTunes went to shit I used to have Party Shuffle pull from a dense web of smart playlists that ensured I was always listening to new favorites, old favorites, and tracks I hadn't listened to recently in a roiling cycle. Man I miss having smart playlists.

My "favorites" alone, songs I can sing along to, are in the thousands after more than two decades of this. The floodplains of attending tracks, other songs from good albums, local music I don't get get rid of because I wouldn't be able to find it again, CDs that I ripped for my kids' or from my wife's collection, mix CDs made for me that I'm still getting around to digesting, these make up several thousand more tracks.

So if you, OP, or anyone else want a list of recent highlights, I'm down to trade a tracklist of most played from the last year.

Somehow both. I have albums from when I was eleven that still hit, but I'll also listen to stuff like post-punk, dark ambient, and witch house. Lot of game soundtracks, vaguely satanic sounding darkwave, but then suddenly I'll retreat into Green Day's Insomniac for a 479th time.

I listen to everything from bluegrass to EDM to polka to doom metal to outlaw country.

I used to be quite picky & only really listened to J-core and high-energy EDM. Last few months I've been getting into a new rhythm game that is known for being... adventurous with its music genre, & even invented some new genres, which has done a number to my music diversity. I think I'm much, much more adventurous with music now

Fun fact, these are genres of some of the charts I've played recently. They are... varied, and I think these are only within the past week:

• A lot of trance
• A lot of J-core. Some are "hybridized" which are J-core mashed with other genres
• Artcore, often referred to just "rhythm game music" because they don't exist outside
• Hi-tech
• All kinds of pop. Including J-pop, K-pop, C-pop(?), pop française (??), ...
• Techno & rave music, of all kinds
• Breakcore
• House, also of all kinds
• Ethnic music. I think I've heard an Arabic EDM chart yesterday
• Classical
• Experimental things: "poetry" (does this genre even exist?), Buddhism chants, whatever ppl like 立秋 and 大前司 make, shitposts/memes but in music form, ...

I love a lot of stuff, almost everything. I like niche stuff, foreign music is super interesting and just as varied as all our stuff. From classical to dubstep, I’m down.

I’m not a fan of super poppy songs unless they’re humorous. I don’t care for post 9/11 country music with its ethnocentric propaganda.

I have a playlist that is comprised of the most unhinged shit that still slaps.

i want to find new music, but idk how so i settle onto a few albums and playlists for my locally saved music. these days i tend to listen to the radio more, but even then it's not that diverse and i don't/can't find them again even if i hear something i enjoy from the radio.

I’m rather adventurous, Classical is my main genre but I listen to a lot of Jazz, Folk, Rock, Pop, etc.

One way to compare how adventurous you are in relation to others is by tracking it.

I use Last. fm (https://www.last.fm/user/NENathaniel) which tracks everything I listen to so I can see stats on my most listened to albums/artists, as well as the total amount of artists I listen to.

My taste is pretty diverse and I love finding new music. Much closer to you on that axis.

Streaming services are the best thing to ever happen to music from a consumer standpoint. You get access to a library of more music than you could listen to in a lifetime, and you're not dependent on industry gatekeepers like in the days of radio and MTV. You don't have to shell out money and hope you like more than two songs on the album. Because of that, I'm more adventurous with music than I've ever been.

I'm probably just old, but I find it harder to find new music. Not like I'm not trying. Just mostly everything sounds similar or a callback to another band from the past. Too much pop shine on almost most songs.

Although, I am loving Angine de Poitrine. Great music.

I honestly don't know anymore. I though I had a really diverse music taste and I especially love abnormal noises in music, but then I used musicbrainz to categorize all my music and found out the basically everything I listen to has the Avantgarde genre. I don't know if that's supposed to mean I'm on the far edge of adventure and listening to only the most experiential of music or if I'm so narrow in my niche that I only listen to music considered too weird to categorize.

I try to find new things to listen to, but I find that I always go back to music from 1970s-2000s. Classic rock and alternative mostly. I like rap, blues, and a tiny bit of country. I listen to a bit of electronic stuff (I don't even know what the genres are technically called). That's about it.

Like the Smaug or any dragon from myths. Constantly hoarding new music regardless of how much there already is.

While there is the baseline collection(taste) which has remained the same since teenage years, though with less shame nowadays. The collection is constantly expanding. Maybe the only commonality is leaning towards fast paced, but there are exceptions of some odd ambient music or just chanting.

I cant pin down the taste exactly. I just keep clicking next/new recommendations until the feeling of avoidance(maybe) dissipates and brain decides it will activate flow state with this random song this time. Sometimes it happens with old songs, sometimes it happens with new songs, sometimes it happens with covers of old songs, sometimes it doesn't happen at all and i listen to audiobooks instead.

I’m an older millennial and I go through phases a few months at a time - content with listening to old favorites and ravenous for new music.

Usually the genres are the same though. Punk, riot grrrl, grime, alternative hip hop, indie. Searching for new artists within those genres usually yields satisfying results for my tastes.

I'm not sure I would call myself "adventurous" - I know what I like and generally stick to it - but I've also realized that new, interesting music isn't just going to fall into my lap, so I'll occasionally go seeking for new stuff, and I'll usually check out anything that gets recommended to me. At worst, I wasted a minute or two, but it's usually worth at least a listen, even of it's not something I'll look for more of.

I listen to a ton of different genres but can only ever find a couple of artists I like per genre. Like I listen to Destroy Boys, Vial, and Cheap Perfume, but I can't find any other punk artists I like

Mixed. I find new artists I like somewhat frequently, but genre-wise I don't often go that far.

I don't really relate to "I listen to all kinds of music! A hundred new songs a day!". I find an album I like and spend a couple weeks with it, then find something new. I go into my backlog a lot.

I buy music (mostly on Bandcamp) so that works for me. Cheaper than a subscription,.and now I have a library.

I'm very picky about music. I've never found new music based on a persons or algorithms suggestions. I have to be in the right mood to accept new music in my life. That has lead to very slow adaption of new stuff. I do listen to a wide variety of music, classical, rock, funk, some jazz, blue, metal, folk, chanson, pop, alternative... Pretty much the only stuff I don't listen to is electronic and rap/hip hop.

When I was a youth I did seek new stuff more often, thats where I found out that not many people knew what I might like, only my older cousin could recommend me stuff that I still listen to lol. These days I find new music once or twice per year.

And when I do find something new that I like, I obsess over it for weeks before going back to the mixed playlist. Latest one is Têtes Raides, according to Last.fm I've listened to them nearly 700 times in the last two weeks. The second most listened to artist in that same period is at around 80 listens...

I listen to the most music when I'm at work, and sometimes a mood will hit me and I'm playing the Best of Bach, and the next day it's Megadeth and Iron Maiden, then maybe old video game songs or instrumental jazz, but my "comfort food" is System of a Down.

You think you're musically adventurous, and you are better than most, but most of your music still features a back beat, making all your different types just splinters of popular music. You are basically listening to only one kind of music, only one genre.

A truly musically adventurous person is listening to multiple GENRES, like classical music, jazz, world music, indigenous folk music, etc., and then exploring the splinter styles among those genres.

I started listening to classical and jazz as a teen. When my friends were flipping burgers or bussing tables, I was earning date money by playing in a 15 piece big band, playing big social events. Then I got a degree in Music History, and went to work for a record company handling all the interesting music that didn't have a back beat.

I'm old now, and I long ago stopped listening to musical "styles," it's all just music to me now. I can play Bach, Pink Floyd, Charlie Parker, Led Zeppelin, Beethoven, Mongolian Heavy Metal, and some John Feahy finger picking, all right in a row, and not have any sort of musical whiplash. I get bored listening to the same stuff.

I’m a musician and I listen to rock, prog, jazz fusion, r&b, kpop, EDM, and film scores just to name a few.

Not only do I listen to a wide range of genres, I play and make music with the same range as well. I allows me to easily fit into different bands without issues. I’ve played with prog rock bands, casino show bands, rappers, metal bands, etc.
