Instantly I know I’ll get the crew who is already done with fields knocking me for this take.

But for the rest of us who still feel like maybe.. Fields still could be the guy…

OL is playing well, defense playing well and instantly improved by Sweat. Moore is still the best player on the team, Kmet, Mooney, Foreman, Herbert coming back, great opportunity for Fields to show if he can be the guy we thought he could (and show consistency) before the franchise moves on.

Admittedly I’ve been very reluctant to give up on fields, I just see so much potential fucked up by (imo) coaching and play calling. But I will move on if he gets to prove me wrong through the rest of the season… or he can prove me right and we can ball out on other positional needs and make our run!

I just want success for Da Bears, Bear Down

I’m very curious how fields will look with better defense play and offensive line. Maybe with a better defense he will not feel the need to play hero ball and take negative plays. Punting is ok sometimes if your defense isn’t horrible. He has never been able to win a game just taking what the defense gives him.

[–] Stommped@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

People like you will never let him go. My dude it’s been 33 games… the remaining 8 games are really going to sway you that much? Even if you aren’t sure about him, it’s better to reset the market rather than just pick up his option and pay him $20M in year 5

[–] theeivog@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fields should be on the field

[–] minoltabro@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why this pic so blurry lol

[–] ImEvadingPermaban@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

We already have 2.5 seasons worth of info, but we ant a little more so hopefully we can ignore what we already have.

[–] AdStreet2074@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Basically Fields truthers anthem nowadays

[–] potionnumber9@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's almost like players improve over time sometimes.

[–] Apotheosis69420@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m just here for the cool DJ Moore plays

[–] Broshan248@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly I’m kind of in between. I really don’t expect him to take a leap in the few games we have left, and even if he does play well I still think we could take a new QB anyway. That being said. I’m still rooting for him. I still think there’s a chance he can rebound. Maybe it’s just some blind optimism because he’s only been very good for like two games, and him being good means we can spend another first round pick on surrounding talent, but I still think there’s a small chance he can improve enough to be our guy.

[–] parks381@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It's a brutal 4 game stretch coming up for him to come back for.

[–] 42069over@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If Nate Davis comes back this will be the first time our entire Starting OL is healthy

[–] Buckwheat33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Perfect, we need to know if he can perform against good teams if we ever hope to be one ourselves.

[–] Nomromz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I think if Fields will look much better behind this significantly improved O line and defense. I hope the coaching staff tells him that we don't need him to be perfect. We hung in there and only lost by one score vs the Saints after turning it over FIVE times. Our defense is good enough that we can afford a few mistakes on offense now. Eventually our defense should even be able to generate some turnovers.

I want us to be aggressive downfield on those 3rd and longs. Just throw a deep bomb that's essentially a punt. Sometimes draw a PI, sometimes throw a pick (which would be similar to a punt), and just go for it. Stop with the 4 yard runs on 3rd and 12. Remember last year when Fields would just keep it himself and run for 16 yards? He has no chance of doing that now because they just call some dumb run or screen that gets blown up immediately.

[–] hippohopper78@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I think people need to realize the O line looks significantly improved because Fields isn’t playing.

[–] Nomromz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Come on now. Bagent has had fairly clean pockets to throw out of. Fields had guys in his face because defenders were coming off the line completely unblocked even when only rushing 4. It took a while, but the offensive line is communicating with one another better and getting their blocking assignments down now.

There are countless clips out there of defenders running unblocked towards Fields because we had silly things happening on the o line like a double team on one guy, another lineman blocking the air, and then a defender running straight at Fields.

Look up any JT O Sullivan video from the first 4 or 5 weeks on the bears. The O line was laughably bad. JT O literally called out the Bears offense for having a player out of place or missing simple assignments on every play.

[–] ubeen@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's crazy people don't understand this.

Bagents last 5 chiago bears games (4 starts + 2 quarters) = 5 sacks.

Fields during the same 5 chicago bears games (2.5 quarters of play) = 4 sacks.

[–] whatlambda@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I am firmly convinced that we win that Saints game running away with Fields behind center.

[–] Gryffindorq@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit’s T1ME!!!

[–] Ornery-Dragonfruit96@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Tevin Jenkins is also a big plus. He affords the QB time in the pocket. Good things. Go Bears!

[–] da-bears-bare-naked@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

the pocket looked so clean for most of yesterday

[–] AnikiRabbit@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Well. It seems like the average NFL team, we thought would be around him to start the season may be materializing.

The season started as a dumpster fire. But we may have a lid on it now. So I guess at this point we're just hot garbage.

Remember. If we win 1/2 of our games and Fields looks improved, that everyone hit their markers. I don't know that it's likely. But that's what would have to happen to meet expectations.

If Fields is on a per game average of 225 passing 1.6TDs 0.8INTS

That represents the sort of "step" passing we were looking to see.

Finish .500, Fields looks like that, the season would technically be a success, and everyone keeps their jobs.

[–] ImAfraidOfBears@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Even if they finish .500 getsy should be fired

[–] ReapYerSoul@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Absolutely! I don't think that Fields is it but, I'd like to see him have competent coaching. So far he's had Nagy and Getsy.

[–] Stommped@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Finish .500? What in the world are you smoking? That has 0 chance of happening. They will win 1-2 more games max

[–] VampyVampster@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The book on him has already been written, this is just a final chapter in a Bears uni unfortunately

[–] BigTimeButNotReally@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fields hater here... I agree with you.

The season is lost, I have no opinion on Bagent - except that he needs more seasoning. Let Fields close out the season. If he plays great, the FO will gave a tough call on their hands, but they also will have a great-playing QB! Sure our draft pick suffers, but we can't make good use of those...

If Fields is meh, it doesn't cost more than a lost season.

[–] Bobr66@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Both he and Bajean can't find open deep receivers,

[–] BuffaloBrain884@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just remember, some fans watched Trubisky play for 4 YEARS and still thought he could be a franchise QB.

The last fans to realize Trubisky wasn't good will also be the last fans to realize Fields isn't good.

[–] Sabiancym@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nah, Trubisky fans are the ones saying Bagent had plays amazing.

[–] i_heart_pasta@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

“Time to find out about Fields”…it’s year 3, we know about fields. It’s time to get this season over with and move on.

[–] Upset_Researcher_143@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We already know what Fields is. That's not going to change because of injury. He is not Brady, Rodgers, Brees... They have to stop trying to turn him into that. They need to go back to what ran well for him last year. They're better off if they adopt the Philly or Baltimore model or a modified version of it since it is mid season. But they'll be stupid and continue to try and fit a square peg into a round hole. The Bears will lose, Fields will get blamed, and then they'll say we need a shiny new QB.

[–] Impressive-Unit2878@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

!remindme 3weeks
we're going to lose to better teams, offense is going to go back to putting up 24 points a game (instead of 13-17 w/ bagent) but we're going to lose because the teams we're playing against are better, people are going to go back to saying 'bagent is better than fields' 'wins are a qb stat' etc.

[–] NewPrints@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I love Fields. First Jersey I have bought - before he even played.

But we have seen this plenty of times already.

He will look good against really bad defenses. He will not be able to get it done against even decently competent teams.

We hill make all the excuses in the world because hope is the most addictive drug there is.

[–] AJ3HUNNA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Idk if we added QB draw, sweep, power, trap it might go a lot better. Blows my mind we refuse to run him

[–] BurgerBob1010@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

his final exam starts now and ends in January. He's gotta play lights out the whole way if he wants to come back. Until then I'm going all in on him and cheering him on the whole way.

[–] BlueDwarven@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's gonna have to play pretty goddamn good and win a lot of the remaining games for me to be cool with Poles passing on taking a QB in the top 2 for the second year in a row.

[–] Gryffindorq@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

cant wait for Fields to come out and kill

[–] PraiseBeToScience@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The rational take is not to give up Fields until you have to. The best case scenario for the Bears is he balls out and we can spend our offseason capital on building the rest of the team. Drafting a QB is always a crap shoot, even with the #1. There's no such thing as a sure-fire, can't miss pick. You only take the chance if you have to.

[–] Goozy89@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m so paranoid about the bears that even being out however many weeks fields has been out is having me unreasonably worried that he’ll have to find his groove again haha. Nfl is so damn fast paced.

[–] Holiday_Way2507@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This is stretch of games literally the ideal situation for both sides of this argument. Theoretically if Hebert and Davis play this upcoming week then we would have our #1 offensive starters all playing together for basically the first time this year, minus the fullback but close enough. This should be the best offense Fields has had (not saying it’s a good one but it’s better than what it’s been) and he either succeeds and shows he can be the guy when the team isn’t dogshit or he fails with his best guys and shows he can’t be the guy. He also plays both good and bad teams during this stretch so it adds to the sample size for those of you saying he pads his stats against bad teams and plays terribly against good ones.

[–] Cal_Rippen7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Math has said for a while it’s over for Fields. It’s Time to let go

[–] SD40couple@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Amaizing what getting rid of the football quickly does for line play.
