/r/chibears hates Fields, so no.

This point is so dumb. If you're trying to save your job as a coach, the number one thing you should never do is call a shit game. You call well designed plays and if the QB can't make them then you can make the case that you need a new QB.

Shit play calling makes you look like the problem and you're just tossing the QB under the bus to save your own neck.

And you should also make damn sure the rest of the team isn't making dumb mental errors constantly by being at the bottom of the league in penalties. You should make sure the rest of the team is living up to their potential.

No one is being put in a place to succeed by calling 17 screen passes a game.

Flus was hired after Poles, by about 48 hours. Ted Philips ran a committee that was responsible for hiring both the GM and HC. They hired Poles and had the hiring process 95% done and told Poles to choose between three options.

Technically Poles signed off on Eberflus, but it was basically a formality.

"How can we make this conversation about how everything is Field's fault?"

[–] PraiseBeToScience@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Great, this is how we get known as "Don't do that."

There's a ton of irrational Fields hate in this sub. Fields may not be "the guy", but way too many people have been out on him since last season and never wanted to give him a chance at all.

Nothing pulls these people out of the woodwork more than the big all-22 breakdown guys like Jenkins and JT giving him a lot of praise. They have to rush to the comments to "debunk" it and it's clear they didn't even watch.

Protection assignments are different for each team. Sometimes the QB does it, sometimes the center does it. Then there are rules set by the OC for different formations. And if you're not in the Hallas Hall you don't know the system the Bears use for changing protection assignments.

Because young QBs develop and can break out. Development isn't linear. This isn't new.

The rational take is not to give up Fields until you have to. The best case scenario for the Bears is he balls out and we can spend our offseason capital on building the rest of the team. Drafting a QB is always a crap shoot, even with the #1. There's no such thing as a sure-fire, can't miss pick. You only take the chance if you have to.
