The McCaskeys are borrowing Reinsdorf’s copy of alienating fans for dummies.
Chicago Bears
If this retard is here next season I'm a dolphins fan. That's the last straw
If Poles didn't completely gut the team in their first year then yeah. However with that whole situation in mind it muddies the waters, also trading for Sweat along with getting those LB'ers, heavy defensive drafts beforehand... doesn't scream Flus is 100% gone.
The situation is just sketchy to me.
Does it matter? How's the Bears track record with coaching hires anyway? Next guy will be awful too.
You don’t draft a QB with a uncertain future at head coach. You pair the new coach with the young QB but we do everything ass backwards. So 99% chance he’s back then gets fired after year 3.
I would be surprised if he gets another season
Nothing the “leadership” of the Bears organization does would surprise me unless it turned out to be a brilliant decision
The silver lining with these demoralizing losses is I think they will force Poles to dump this staff. As piss poor as this team has been the last decade or so, they’ve somehow managed to avoid being bottom of the barrel bad until these last two seasons. Not being able to get this team to perform even mediocre is the nail in the coffin (hopefully)
All this talk about the worst coach. He's fired for sure.
Everyone stays for at least one more year. Patience peeps…this is year 2 of a complete overhaul and they’re not done…It takes time. They pretty much control the draft again and have a ton of cap space. Draft and or sign the balance of the major holes with studs ( WR2 hopefully MHJ, C, another DE opposite of Sweat and probably FS when they let EJ go) next offseason and BAM! Playoffs next season! Mark my words…this was the plan all along. They’re closer than most think.
What if we beat the Packers in the week 18? That could trigger enough mass euphoria for the fans to personally carry Eberflus on their shoulders to George’s office and demand a 10 year contract extension.
Root for this team to lose out and he’ll be gone
He gotta go and everyone on the staff that rode in with him. I like Poles and what he has done but got to make a disconnect with coaching staff
Yeh he will be gone
Poles had a teardown, however this is worse than the worst estimates
It is a question of self preservation, thus
Scenario 1
Flus stays, year 3 of the thing we should win, we won't. Because he is an awful communicator, and therefore terrible coach
Poles has overseen the worst 3 years in Bears history, and probably has no answer at QB
He is now on very very shaky ground and Warren can say thanks, now it's my turn with my guys
Scenario 2
Hire new coach, and Poles gets a 2 to 3 year reset, WITH buy in from Kevin Warren
It's self preservation/politics
There’s a real chance the McCaskeys don’t allow Kevin Warren to do his job and keep these idiots (GM & HC) only to completely fumble the bag on the 2nd no. 1 overall in two years. There’s a very real chance of that.
He’s 100% gone, no doubt about it.
I’m not convinced he will be fired to be honest. I said it before, the only excuse Poles has to keep his job is the fact that they are rebuilding. Firing flus would make the assumption that more was expected and that exposes Poles. So he will continue with the “plan” and this whole shit coaching staff is going to be retained one more year.
If the reasoning is self preservation I think Poles firing Flus is way more likely. If they have another bad year they both could be gone.
He's going to have to win a couple games against the division in order to keep his job. Though the bar for him staying another year is probably a lot lower than the sub would like it to be.
☝🏻Yep. This guy knows what being a Bears fan is really all about.
He’s a defensive head coach that had the worst defense in the NFL last year, is dead last in sacks this year (again), and has never won a single divisional game
There’s zero doubt, he’s gone
But they have the #2 Rush defense under 80 yards per game.
To be fair, also had no pass rushers & he wasn’t calling to start the season.
That said, I think he’s not the right HC but wouldn’t mind him as DC…
He should be gone-my only concern is that Flus/Getsy/Poles told ownership when being hired it would be a three year turn around, one year to tear down, year to build and year to start competing so they will get the third year. Also, they may be able to throw Fields under the bus because he is not “their guy”. I’m still not convinced they are actually trying to compete and still may be “tanking”-some of the personnel decisions/game plan/in game decisions make a person wonder.
Hope for the best, brace for the bears bullshit
We know he is staying. Virginia can’t sustain her life force of the tears and misery of the fan base if they have to pay a coach to sit home for 2 years instead of 1. if John fox got 3 years so will Flus.
Ya know.....I think I'll re-watch Lifeforce on Monday night instead of the game. It may be one of Toby Hooper's worst movies and I've seen it like 25 times, but at least the stunning Mathilda May is fully nude thru almost the first half of the film. Certainly won't see anything nearly as entertaining in the game.
There’s no need to panic yet. Once we hit the off-season, then we can panic.
Nagy stayed a year past his welcome so we shall see what happens this time around
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this question asked
Pretty sure he's gone because the ownership group is going to demand some major changes after 2 straight years of last place football. They usually hold onto the GM over the coach, especially if the GM didn't hire the coach or choose the QB.
This is what I can’t even remember any more. I thought Flus was hired before Poles, but I’ve seen other places that it was his hire. Did Poles hire Flus or was he put in place for him?
The Bears “brain trust” of George, Ted, and Bill Polian assembled a short list based on interviews and told Poles to pick from it. Eberflus was on that list. That said, out of the choices on the list, Poles picked the worst one
Flus was hired after Poles, by about 48 hours. Ted Philips ran a committee that was responsible for hiring both the GM and HC. They hired Poles and had the hiring process 95% done and told Poles to choose between three options.
Technically Poles signed off on Eberflus, but it was basically a formality.
I am confident that Poles wants to keep Eberflus. He built this team along side of him -- and if Flus goes a lot of work we have done to construct this team has been wasted and the rebuild is going to take much longer. Like right now the team is built to run the 4-3 defense. What if a new coach does not want to do that? It means we gave away Roquan for nothing.
Still, if we don't start winning games a change will have to be made. Poles can't have the worst team in the league for 2 straight years and then run it back again. He may as well set his own chair on fire.
Running 4-3 doesn't mean much. It's not that hard to change it up, and we still don't have the keystone piece (a great 3T) so if we were going to change, now would be the time.
Also it doesn't mean we gave away Roquan. He didn't want to be here so we got something for him. Value wise we replaced 90% of his production for 60% of his price plus got a pick in the process.
I think he gets an extension most likely.
Nope, Im not fully sold hes going to be fired. This is just my opinion but I feel like its 60/40 he stays another year. I would hope theyd avoid doing this shit to a rookie QB for a THIRD time, but I can totally see it happening.
I dont even really care about Poles. I wont complain either way with him, but I will be livid if we keep Eberflus.
I doubt they even make a decision until the end of the year. What's the rush? Anyone we want to hire isn't available to interview until post-season anyway.
If they don’t can him idk if I can root for the Bears anymore
I think if Poles decides to keep him, then I think they'll both end up getting fired. Eberflus will most likely be the fall guy, especially if they lose out, no matter how well Fields plays. I think they blast it all up even if they lose out but Fields plays well. Fields will get traded to the Falcons or Ravens, the coaching staff will be gone, and Poles will draft a QB and or a WR or trade one of those picks for a haul. I think he'll address the coaching situation first before he decides on the draft picks, of course. But yeah he needs to fire Flus or they'll both be gone
The Bears are a conservative organization. They have a new GM and a new President. Poles knew from the get go that this was a complete tear down and rebuild. He probably said as much to Eberflus when he was hired. In general coaches are usually given 3 years to turn an organization around, though that’s becoming less of a norm than it was 15-20 years ago.
So, yeah, there’s a dozen reasons to think Eberflus will be back for year 3. It will all come down to whether Poles thinks Eberflus has been irredeemably bad as an HC or not. We can point at a handful of outwardly apparent red flags, but we don’t know if there are mitigating circumstances.
I think he’s gone, but it’s absolutely in doubt.
Knowing the mccaskeys im fully expecting him to be given another year
Idk if I can take another year of him.
I think he should be gone. I also am realistic that they could scapegoat someone to buy time if Poles is tethering himself to Flus. That being said I don't think it's Fields like many others have said. I think it will be Getsy. They could point to the defense finally beginning to trend up and the offensive playcalling as the weak point.
If that happens I don't think they'll go QB in the draft. I know people will say "but Fields isn't Poles guy". That argument doesn't hold up. Poles could have pulled the plug on Fields last year when we had the #1 overall. He didn't. He opted to trade the pick away and build around Fields. I think he'll get pressure to continue to build the team up around Fields for one more year if he decides he wants to retain Flus. The organization would need to have the flexibility to give the next GM/HC the ability to pick a new QB if the plan fails next year instead of saddling them with CW or Maye. That would be repeating history.
All hail powdered toast man
Why worry about him staying until it happens?
true.
As someone who would have thought they wouldn’t fire him because pole and mcaskys, I feel like they actually might have to if he loses the locker room
I think the McCaskeys get rid of him after the season. They arent Jerry Reinsdorf. They fired Trestman after 2 seasons, Fox after 3 seasons and Nagy after 4 seasons, but 2 playoff seasons and after his worst record was 6-11. The one thing you cant fault George on since taking over is keeping a HC for too long. I definitely think Flus is gone unless he wins out by some miracle to end the year. Since Lovie the only coach to survive 2 losing seasons has been Fox, and i think they gave him a slightly longer leash just because of his prior experience. And Flus is on track to finish year 2 with the worst record in bears history. Dont see how he survives that.
