What do we think happens with him this offseason? I went into the year thinking he was a solid WR2 but he looks like more of a WR3.

Do you think Poles retains him? Whats a fair price?

If we can keep him for cheap (which we should be able to with his low market value rn) I'd love to keep him in the slot. But we also need to try to go all in on Tee Higgins with Michael Pittman as a fallback

[–] Silver_Harvest@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Either he'll stay for a more team friendly contract. Or a team will overpay like what happened two years ago.

If we get MHJ in the draft, I'm not sure what to do with him. I think he's maybe worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 mil/year but I'm not sure there's not another team that would be willing to give him more

[–] laal-doodh@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think a team definitely would go well past 8 mill. How much more idk but Lazard got 11 mill a year. In 5.5 years he had 188 receptions, 2,509 yards, and 21 TDs. Mooney in 3.5 has 204, 2,500, and 11 TDs. Similar numbers outside of TDs but some of that is the product of us having a trash O.

Lazard had the benefit of playing for a good team, with a good offense, and a good coach. I fully expect Mooney to get around that or maybe even a lil more. Other guys making around 11 are Meyers, Samuel, and Gallup and all had similar numbers to Mooney after 4 season. He’ll actually probably finish with better numbers than those guys.

[–] moneyman2222@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would love to get MHJ and say fuck Mooney and go all in on Higgins. Can you imagine a Moore, Higgins, MHJ WR room 🥵

[–] fooly__cooly@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My dream would be Moore and MHJ as #1 and 2 and Mooney in the slot

[–] DaBears6452@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Let him go. We have Scott to take his spot and drafting MHJ would round out the receiving corp without having to spend a boatload on free agents.

[–] iamherefortherecepie@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have the same concerns. I would like him retained and think paying him like a low end 2 is appropriate

[–] spddemonvr4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'm fine with a mid tier 2. Should be paid like a 1k yard per season guy as He's so much better than his stats.

He's been open a lot and just balls are not thrown to him.

[–] Gleasonryan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I really like Mooney and with a competent OC I think he can be super useful.

[–] YeetStreetBoys@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

a team is going to overpay for him

[–] willycw08@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chiefs, Panthers, Patriots, Jets would all probably value him higher than the Bears in 2024.

[–] KBobBears@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

When the Bears drafted Scott I wondered if he was the replacement.

I'm guessing a team in need of WR help is probably going to overpay. Not sure what the Chiefs cap looks like but think how much they could use a guy like Mooney right about about now.

[–] Dok_G@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If i'm remembering correctly Mooneys best year was with Nagy as HC. From a quick google it looks like KC is middle of the pack in cap space (before whatever resignings they want to do). I think if we don't resign him KC is a very likely landing spot for him

[–] UnMapacheGordo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I think Darnell overvalues himself, the Bears undervalue him, he goes to free agency but is so pissed off at the Bears that he signs a small deal with another team and talks shit about how we suck

Seems to be the MO these days

[–] ChangingChance@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

When everyone says your the asshole I think poles should believe it

[–] Slowsnale@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Has another year on contract right? I would let it ride out and see how next year goes. Love the guy, but would be nice to have a tall receiver for the fade routes to the end zone and sideline throws

[–] bearsguy2020@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

While I’d love to keep him but I have a feeling his value is greater elsewhere. He’s a solid WR2 imo. Not a guy to physically win 1 on 1s but a guy who can consistently run routes and make catches

[–] StJCobbs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He can probably get 13/14 but I don’t think the Bears are going to pay that much. If we can get him at 11 id be be quite happy. The thing about his contract that will be tricky to navigate is guaranteed money vs AAV. Sweat got a bit lower total because he’s been incredibly healthy and they felt good giving that guaranteed which is how they met in the middle. Mooney has injury history so I wouldn’t be surprised to see higher average with lower guaranteed that has an out after 2 years. One thing is there seems to be some solid WRs coming available if their teams don’t resign so that may help us. Ultimately as a fan I really want to see us retain our few players we hit on, but it’s a business so I’d understand. Hope to see him back though!

[–] GoldenDude@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As much as I love Mooney I think he’s replaceable

[–] AWoodenCredenza@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I see him as a future Charger

[–] MoistTheAnswer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s gone. Tyler Scott has played well and when we draft Marvin Harrison Jr, there’s just not enough room for Darnell. I wish him well though.

[–] hammerSmashedNail@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The bears haven’t had a lot of success passing the ball. Mooney is a fine number 2.

[–] Anstavall@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He won’t be here next year I’m afraid

[–] BranCan7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

it’s tough because I think him and tyler scott are very similar, and tyler scott seems like he’s been trending upwards lately which is obviously a good thint

[–] FaithlessnessFine72@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If we draft MHJ, he’s gone

[–] PoogeneBalloonanny@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wanted to trade for him badly, still want him in FA

I think getting him for Jakobi Meyers money is a bargain, anything cheaper is a steal

[–] suckmyfatfuckinballs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's fine but I don't even think he was as good as Johnny Knox

[–] Crathsor@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mooney is 50% of the actual NFL-quality WRs on the roster. The rest are role-players.

[–] Upset_Researcher_143@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Three years, $10 million, guarantee of $7 million is fair. If he thinks he can get a better deal, let him try. And if we have the number one pick, we either trade it for a boatload or draft Harrison Jr. The reason I say this is because he is a generational pick. None of the QBs are. So whoever gets him basically has a guaranteed number one receiver for the next decade minimum. So we either get him, or we get a truckload for that pick. I'm thinking three future first rounders is the starting point. I know a lot of teams might balk at that, but he is absolutely worth it. How many teams right now don't even have a WR1 or a WR2? We're talking possibly the next best WR in the NFL. So if we get number one, we either trade it for like six draft picks and two above average players or we get Harrison

[–] daimetti@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Depends on money but I’ll take Moore mhjr and work with Scott as 3rd

[–] MikeBizzo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He has been a WR3 the whole time just on a team with no WR1. So it’s been hard to grade him.

[–] G_Unit_Solider@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

dj moore is a wr1 lol. a bonified verified certified wr1. we just dont have a competant qb.

mooney is a wr3 though ive said this for two seasons in a row and been downvoted by bears fans who think with there hearts not heads.

Mooney has big flaws to his overall physqiue as a WR. hes 5'11 173lbs hes super small and undersized. To add to that hes not a speed freak or juke you out your shoes type guy either to make up for his lack of size. corners are often bigger than him and out man him for spacing.

Theres a reason why the top Wr in the league right now are either speed demons (t.hill) or genetic beasts (Aj brown)\]\

Not many 5'10-5'11 175lb recivers on the top stat lists.

dj more weighs 35lbs more than mooney is faster makes people miss tackels more has better route running ability etc. i expected mooney to size up but hes jsut been the same player.

[–] Buick_reference3138@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s gonna be on the Chiefs next year putting up numbers with Mahomes on a reasonable deal, bears won’t keep him.

[–] Beriarmar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If Tyler Scott keeps playing like he did on Thursday we won’t need to worry about Mooney

[–] Perfect_Bird_5399@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's a team player who seems like he's just happy to be in the NFL. He'll take a low paying contract, live semi-modestly and be happy for the rest of his life.

[–] HDBlackHippo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Love Mooney but his production can be found in the draft for much cheaper.

[–] qjh7677@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gonna speak my Meatball Bears fan dream into existence: Resign Mooney. Put him in the slot. DJ Moore on one side, Marvin Harrison Jr on the other side.

[–] goonin911@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Marvin fucking Harrison fucking jr.

[–] In-the-bunker@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

he is worth whatever another team is willing to pay

[–] jickbaggins1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s the exact kind of Bears WR who will end up on the Vikings at some point

[–] One_Prior_9909@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Don't re-sign him if we're going to get MHJ

[–] G_Unit_Solider@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

love mooney but hes a low end wr2 borderline w3. He just disappears for long stretches and his seperation is non existent on most plays . hes easily replaceable in the league type player. Tyler scott looks to be a better wr2 option in the future imo.

[–] checkthamethod@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tyler Scott will probably take his place

[–] rugbysecondrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What is the difference between a WR2 and WR3 in this offense?

[–] Obi-WansForceGhost@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think he’s on another team next season

[–] SomeGuyOnRedditApp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think he sign with KC and becomes the greatest reciever of all time

[–] Pisthetairos@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mooney's role on the Bears next year will be replaced by Tyler Scott.

[–] Cautious-Industry-82@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We has a offensive need him to have someone readable to catch the ball.
