I think the Bears fan base is very divided right now.

You’re either in the camp or keep Fields and trade back / build up the lines

Or draft a QB with 1 and roll the dice on him being the answer

What if there’s another way?

Picture the Cutler trade on steroids (and hopefully a better long term result)

Would the Chargers do it? While Herbert has been very good, the Chargers have underachieved as a team and maybe they would want to draft the local guy, Caleb Williams?

Are there any other QB’s in the league that are realistic options for the bears to inquire about?

Trevor Lawrence might be on the table, but I haven’t seen enough out of him to do that deal

What do you think, Bears fans?

100%. No question. He's a top 10 QB.

[–] Upset_Researcher_143@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would but the Chargers aren't dumb enough to do that. Herbert is a top 5 QB.

[–] DillyDillySzn@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Would the Chargers do it?

No

[–] sobes20@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You don’t know that! The number 1 overall pick could be anything, even a Justin Herbert!

[–] Angalourne@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Beautiful! I've thought about this exact line so many times reading through all these absurd draft scenarios.

[–] lkn240@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We could offer them every pick we have this year and they'd say no while laughing

[–] okay_throwaway_today@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Why would the Chargers trade like the only good part about their team?

[–] CamiloArturo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Maybe they want to recreate the second chapter of trading Drew Brees 😁

[–] RogerPenroseSmiles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They also got a Bosa who probably thinks Chicago is a little to dark for his tastes.

[–] Neat_On_The_Rocks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Would I do it yes. Would the chargers no.

End thread

[–] KingRemoStar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No. He got Carson Wentz in him.

[–] ExcitingCondition484@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think both sides would be dumb to make that trade. Herbert is a proven franchise QB, Williams and Maye are unproven but have more upside. If you’re the bears, you go with the rookie QB contract window, if you’re the chargers you stick with your franchise QB.

[–] lnnrt01@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes I would do that but they absolutely won’t

[–] cmacfarland64@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Let’s sign Kirk cousins and draft MHJ and then the best available player.

[–] doggoploggo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Did this subreddit collectively lose half their braincells this weekend? The posts here in the last 24 hours are insane lmao

No shit you make that trade if the Chargers were dumb enough to want it.

[–] WzDson@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not to even mention he just got a new contract.

[–] hippohopper78@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would do that in a heartbeat

[–] OpneFall@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The Chargers would never, ever do this. This was asked a while ago about the Vikings and Jefferson and even they wouldn't do that.

[–] nigeldog@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m not sure the Cards would even do it for Kyler, and he’s a worse player with a bit of an albatross of a contract.

[–] willycw08@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would trade the 2024 Panthers pick, the 2024 Bears pick, and the 2025 1st round pick for Herbert and be thankful to have the best QB in Bears history and in the division for the next 10 years.

[–] obi-1-jacoby@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hypothetically, yes, I absolutely would trade the #1 pick for Justin Herbert. But that would never happen, that would be an incredibly dumb move by the chargers

[–] dtdude87@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chargers would probably want another 2-3 first round picks to even consider it, so yeah Bears would definitely do that deal

[–] Critical-Adhole@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] Dazed_and_Confused44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There's literally zero chance of the Chargers trading Herbert lol. You don't voluntarily put your team back into QB hell when you get lucky and find a young franchise QB.

That being said if I entertain this miracle situation for the sake of argument, I would easily trade both of our first rounders this year for Herbert. Not even a question in my opinion

[–] Eg_3600@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would Unfortunately the Chargers would not give him up.

[–] -HumphreyBoggart-@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes, easily. I’d the chargers who would have an issue with this

[–] FinancialTwo4205@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Why are the chargers so ass if he's good?

[–] reverieontheonyx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because he is not good enough to overcome bad defence and playcalling. In other words, not elite.

[–] boardmonkey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nope. We don't have the coaching or play calling. The only people that could survive in our system currently as a QB would be a solid vet who doesn't need help with their growth, and can stand up to bad coaching and play calling. Tom Brady, Aaron Rogers, Kirk Cousins, or even Matt Stafford would work. Anyone that "has potential" won't work for our current system, because the coaching and play calling are going to kill that potential. This is why we have two QB's with potential, but neither are playing well.

Since Halas dies this team as struggled with ownership issues. They hire cheap coaches and GMs with little to no experience. They struggle with front office decision making. Really it was the death of Papa Bear that started us on our downward slope. The last person Halas hired was Ditka in 1982. Papa died in 1983, we won the 1985 season with the team that Papa built, and since that time we struggled.

We need new ownership, which hopefully will bring a better front office, and hopefully better coaching. I don't think we see another SB under McCaskey ownership. 2006 was a fluke.

[–] MonsignorHalas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes. I’d trade 2 #1s for Herbert.

Chargers would ask for three.

[–] Gryffindorq@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

that’s an obvious yes

this from this Fields “truther” like me

[–] PortillosBeef27@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You don’t have to be ashamed about being a truther. Don’t let the others get you down. Fields will be here next year balling out with that swagger, moxie and it factor he just has. He just has it baby

[–] TigerCharades3@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Shut up omg enough

[–] HoPMiX@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s the face of SoFi. He’s not going anywhere. Lol

[–] PassorFail1307@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sure. If his line doesn't get him killed first, ours definitely will.

[–] Horror_Economics_588@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

it would cost way more than just the number 1 pick lol if they would even listen to it.

[–] kevo0884@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Oh yeah. Trade them the number one pick, fields, and a portillo's franchise.

Nice dream.

[–] SurferSting84@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

fuck no, why would I want to get older

[–] Beginning_Home_3554@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Um... think 3-4 first round picks...

[–] reverieontheonyx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No. Justin Herbert is not an elite qb, and he is being paid like an elite qb. I would also not give up the chance to draft a potentially elite qb to overpay a top 10ish qb.

It's statistically unlikely a draft pick will be better than him. It is more likely that caleb williams will be better than him than herbert will ever win a superbowl.

Herbert gets mentioned in the top tier of qbs when he is more like the kirk cousins tier. And honestly, cousins is better at playing quarterback. Not as athletic, sure, but that's all everyone calling herbert a surefire top 5 qb is doing is projecting his potential because he has a strong arm.

I say this while fully cognisant of the fact that he would be the best quarterback in bears history. LA would also never make that trade.
