I love Oatly but... uh, um... popcorn flavor?

[–] javasux@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I wonder if it's the same as for jelly beans, where they sometimes use hazelnut flavor as a base for "popcorn"

On the carton it just says flavouring and natural flavouring, so we'll never know..

Ah yes, the two food groups

"You can just say flavors!"

It's certainly using Diacetyl to flavor it, that's what all buttered popcorn flavoring is. It's fine to drink and occurs naturally (although personally fucking ewwww), but it's super bad to vaporize and inhale. Funny enough, gives you popcorn lung! That's why there's no buttered popcorn vapes anymore.

Perhaps it sounds worse than it is. I'd try it.

It’s to hide whether or not you scalded the milk

Why is your Oatly Catalan, and what kind of flavor is that exactly? (/j)

it tastes like Llibertat, amnistia i estatut d'autonomia

It's super popular in my friend group with quite a few coffee snobs. I found it best as an iced drink. Steaming tended to burn the sugar for me, which made it taste really bad.

I tried this and it was weird that my coffee tasted like a cinema

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is the popcorn milk slightly salty? I think theoretically some salt in your coffee would bring out the flavour more.

[–] Damarus@feddit.org 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I only tasted sweet in it.

[–] zipfelwurster@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Same. The ingredient list agrees - no salt listed.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 10 points 2 weeks ago

Popcorn without salt is an even bigger sacrilege than coffee with popcorn milk.

Yeah, oatly is basically oats and sugar (sugar and oats is maybe closer). I use it to prep my oats for breakfast, and even though I don't add sugar.

[–] Damarus@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is not about regular Oatly, but about the popcorn flavoured variant. The regular Oatly in my fridge has 3.4g of sugar per 100ml and doesn't list any added sugar in the ingredients. So I'm not sure why you would describe that as "sugar and oats".

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

because of it's taste. but it could well be a personal thingy.
