The play calling gets sooooo predictable and frustrating to watch....runs up the gut for 0-2 yards followed by soft prevent coverage on defense. I could see the collapse a mile away.

The team won. There's no way anyone can sit here and say that the players didn't do enough to win this game. What more do you want from them?
Matt "soft zone" Flushboy and Puke Screensy took it away with their conservative, scared, loser football.
How these two weren't fired directly after the game is beyond me. We are not only losing winnable games. We are losing games that are won. And it's not the first time.
We’re a loser organization. Owned by family of born on 3rd losers. There’s a reason they will never fire anyone mid season. They don’t know what they’re doing, don’t like to make hard decisions, perfectly content with mediocrity etc etc
And then people act surprised when not a single big free agent will sign here - the entire operation is a joke and the players can also see that.
The Bears were up 2 scores. They lost because they couldn’t stop Detroit from scoring 2 touchdowns in 2 minutes. You can blame Eberflus for his defensive play calling, but this is ridiculous “hindsight is 20/20” bullshit.
When you are the only one having this take, you really need to think "Am I wrong? or is Every other person wrong?"
Because the fact of the matter is, if Dan Cambell had been in that 4th and 1, he would have put his offense on the field to try and put the game away. Being up by 9, a TD pretty much seals the win, a FG opens a window for them to make a comeback.
Then up by 12, you go into prevent defense. The defense had been balling out all game and instead of staying aggressive you go into a cover/prevent defense and Goff carves it up in under 1.5 min scoring a TD and bringing them within 5.
Next series you run 2 predictable up the center runs, when the Lions had been stacking the box with everything but their corners for the whole second half. You predicatively get stuffed and need a home-run play to get the First Down to ice the game. Instead you have to punt.
You once more fall back into your cover/prevent defense and once more the Lions ram it down your throat, scoring a TD and leaving around 24 seconds left on the clock.
Now you are down by 2, need a FG, and have to drive the whole field in 24 seconds...
This loss is not on the players, could they have done better? Yes, Scott could have kept running and catch the ball, Fields could have thrown a better deep ball earlier to DJ for a second TD, JJ could have had a pick 6 and another pick. But hell the players played very good against a good team for 56 min, and the coaching was good for 56 min. But the coaching staff sucked and played conservative for 4 min and lost the game.
I mean to me, by not firing Flus/Getsy, that signals that we are not serious about winning. Why should I watch an unserious product? Until they’re gone why should we watch these games? Just makes me feel bad for all the guys being held back by these clowns

What does firing them now accomplish? "Send a message"? To who? Do you really think whoever is put as interim coach is the long term answer? OK - so what's the point.
We are not going into next season with Fields AND a new head coach. So keep this same shitty band together and let them collectively show that they all need to go.
Flus is an old school, defensive coach. He has always played not to lose, and he will always play not to lose. Good way to lose in today’s NFL.
Yes, this is his philosophy and what he does, sadly doesn't make it any easier to watch. As much as I have supported Poles so far, it's up to him and Kevin Warren to recognize that this is not how to play winning football in 2023.

Flus is an old school, defensive coach... right up the Bears' (gutter ball) alley.
We all know if the Bears went for it on 4th down they weren't going to get it. This is the Bears. Forget even that Getsy probably calls a run up the middle to get stuffed. This is the Bears. The Bears have never had an offense that would make you feel confident they could make a 4th down to put a game away.
So I didn't hate the FG. The next possession was WAYYY more problematic. The FG set them up to have a chance for kicking a FG to still win. Had like 29 seconds left to do so. We've seen a team with 17 seconds left and I think no timeouts get to FG range and beat the Bears.
So that wasn't the problem. Wish we'd focus on the real problems and not about that possession.
You cant just say they wouldnt hit that because "bears". They were 2/2 on 4th down conversions yesterday.
That 4th and 1 decision was huge, and was a problem. Given the talent gap with the Lions you need to turn it into a 3 possession game before getting comfortable against one of the top teams in the conference.
The coaching is the problem. Vikings were 1-4 going into week 5, same as the Broncos, same as the bears. The Vikings lost JJ and Cousins... The Vikings are 6-5, the Broncos are 5-5 and the bears are 3-8. The coaching is the problem...
"Playing not to lose instead of playing to win" is such a nonsensical statement. People always say it as if they're being profound or something. Unless you're trying to tie, those things are the same.
How many pass attempts were there in the 4th quarter? Let’s be real, there was a stubbornness to run to the left, the running backs were mostly ineffective and the best outcomes were with the ball in Fields’ hands.
So they refused to pass, and the only pass attempt the after going up 12 was the bomb to Scott. That was a staff that was scared. The outcomes of the Scott pass were either a deep completion or an overthrow. I’m sure that’s even what Fields was told.
It speaks to a staff with no idea how to win. When you turtle up for an entire quarter you are inviting the Lions to come back
It just means that you stop taking risks because you're afraid one of those risks might cause you to lose, but in turn you also sacrifice the rewards that make you more likely to win. The optimal strategy usually involves taking those risks, because otherwise you wouldn't have taken those risks for the first three quarters of the game.
I think the field goal call is a little bit of hindsight analysis.
If we go for it and fail, then the Lions score a TD and a FG, it’s “Flus is an idiot, he should have taken the points! Force the Lions to score two TDs”
At the end of the day the defense played extremely well, but let up two quick TD drives late.
They were up 9. The FG doesn’t change that the Lions have to score twice. Yes it forces 2 TDs to take the lead but either way, the Bears would have needed a FG drive to come back regardless.
The boneheaded move was not going for 2 after the DJ touchdown as well.
With how the game was going and knowing how easily the game can always turn around on top of the Bears, I would never question Flus' attempt to go for it on 4th. I supported his decision to go for it on 4th down against the Broncos too, but I didn't support running out of shotgun after using a timeout. With a defense that has never proven to clutch up when they need, I will never have a problem with going for the kill.
The fact that he also went for it on 4th two times earlier and both succeeded, too.
What drives me bonkers is the team is 6 - 22 under Eberflus and has never even beat a single divisional opponent and yet hes still coaching like hes trying to squeek out a playoff win. If you don't have any guts when theres nothing to lose you are fucked if theres ever anything on the line.
When up 12 Tremaine Edmunds fails to bring down Gibbs in the middle of the field. It is 2nd and 4. If Edmunds brings Gibbs down the Lions convert and the clock runs. Instead, Edmunds tries to wrap and throw Gibbs down. Gibbs spins out of it and hustles to get OB.
This is the type of execution that Flus is right about. Almost there is this. Edmunds has to being Gibbs down there.
Instead, Gibbs gets OB. Lions huddle. Next play is 32 yard TD pass. This was way bigger than we realize.

One missed tackle did not end the game. The horseshit play calling and scheme were the overall tone on the last quarter. Laying this on Edmunds is a garbage take.
Johnson dropped a pick 6 and the next play was a Det TD. If we're gonna pick a single play that's my vote. But it's entirely on Flus imo
I remember when everyone was pissed at him for not taking the field goal in the Denver game
Fire him because he's in charge of a terrible defense.
The difference is that a field goal against Denver would have turned a tie into a lead with 3 minutes to play, which is extremely difficult to pass up.
Should be the last straw for this staff.
Everyone is going at Eburflus who will not be fired mid-season anyway, when it was Getsy who called the prevent offense that cost the game
Everflus owned the Lion's offense all game and then called prevent shell to give the game away in the 4th. He is absolutely responsible.
Also, he is the HC. Shouoda told Getsy to ramp it up.
Non Bears fans can all see how well Fields played yesterday and he deserved better, and half our sub blames Fields.
The maddening thing is he did it all last year even when we were a 3 win team in the middle of a historic losing streak. This is a direct result of our shitty ownership - the coaches know they only have to show the tiniest amount of improvement and they'll keep their jobs so theyre constantly trying to squeek out wins so George can pat them on the back for improving and not have to pay another staff.
Wasn't the late field goal to go up 26-14 on 4th and 5, not 4th and 1? The kick on 4th and 1 was much earlier in the fourth quarter and going for it would have hardly put the game away.
We probably still should've gone for it on 4th and 1 and arguably on 4th and 5, but still.
They should fire Flus & then promote the Defensive Coordinator to Head Coach!
