When Graham appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program afterward, she attempted to recover by pivoting from her lack of national security knowledge to transgender athletes, as The Advocate reported.

“Of course, Taiwan is our friend,” Graham said. “But I think people in South Carolina are more worried about making ends meet. They are concerned about boys in girls’ sports.”

Trump continued that strategy Friday by making transgender people a central part of his argument for Graham. He attacked Andrews as a “far-left political hack who supports transgender for everybody” and accused her of telling “confused children they’re trapped in the wrong body.”

...

Trump may have conflated those medical procedures with agreements his Justice Department has forced on two major hospital systems. Those settlements require Texas Children’s Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic to establish or fund services for people who voluntarily seek to detransition. They do not order hospitals to perform surgery on anyone.

In May, Texas Children’s agreed to pay the state $10 million, end gender-affirming care for minors and establish what federal officials called the country’s first “restorative care” clinic for detransitioners. The Houston hospital also agreed to terminate five physicians connected to its transgender health program and permanently revoke their privileges, as The Advocate reported.

MAGA thinks they smell blood in the water on the trans issue, so that's their chosen wedge issue for the foreseeable future. I'm the past it was abortion, flag burning, kneeling, gay adoption, gay marriage, gay gayness, etc.

The proper answer to any trans nonsense is: "I am not a doctor, and I won't presume to interfere with the medical decisions between any patient and their doctor, on any subject. I have absolutely no opinions on this subject, and do not consider it an appropriate subject for a political discussion. It is an appalling and indefensible political strategy to use any medical issue as a political talking point, so I'm not interested in your opinion either."

That works for ANY medical issue, including abortion.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 56 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I asked my idiot aunt (who won't admit to being a Trump supporter but is) why can't politicians leave medical decisions to medical professionals. She said medical professionals can't be trusted because they work for the government. That's how fucking stupid she is. We need the government to intervene in medical decisions because we can't trust professionals who work for the government

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Aren't most medical professionals in the US working for private companies?

Trans rights are human rights.

Abortion is healthcare.

I would rather push back more directly than try to dodge the conversation.

I saw a guy at Home Depot today with a shirt that said "if genders confuse you, try milking a bull" and I'm like, first off that's essentially what we are good at but also, this guy's so wrapped up in culture wars that don't actually affect him, he's wearing a shirt about jerking off farm animals in public, and that seems OK to him. It's well past the point of parody anymore and it can only collapse as people tune it all out like any other odd fad.

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago (9 children)

If bulls are anything like people, well, put the bull on HRT for a couple of years and you might be able to milk it. Trans women can lactate breast milk that’s nutritionally identical to cis women’s.

[–] nickiwest@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

"Small enough to fit in your reproductive organs" appears to be the goal.

The party of small government has always been the party of NO government. Because once democracy is gone, they can take over and do what they want. The south never stopped waging the civil war, they just kept waging it by other means. They always hated the Union, and because they weren't stomped out completely they came back, like an infection when you don't finish your antibiotics.

They want to destroy it, because they know that they cannot and will never be in charge as long as us, the common people have a say.

And the king decreed make that one a male and that one a female. The people cheered, he was going to fix this gender problem once and for all. Gender was no longer determined by silly things like genetics, feelings, or facts. Only he could bestow it upon the masses.

At first people would bribe him for the privilege of a different sex. The corrupt king would pray on poor souls who didn't fit in. Soon though, he realized his ultimate power. Humiliation.

"You are no longer male", he would scream at a general or diplomat. "You are whatever I say you are", the king would croak through his curled cruel smile as they were hauled away for forced gender change surgery.

Reverse surgeries? I'm trying to think what that means literally and I'm not really sure -- isn't a reverse surgery a dissection? 😧

Post-top surgery trans dude here. Have yet to have any tits forcibly operated back onto me. Which is what they’d have to do, because all my former breast tissue is mostly gone.

And one third of Americans believe this shit

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yep. A few years ago there was that whole spiel about how Democrats were putting litter boxes in public school classrooms so that the kids who identify as animals would have a place to relieve themselves. I heard someone actively talking about it while grocery shopping at one point.

Trump himself has claimed children are getting gender affirming surgery IN SCHOOL and I can tell you that there are men and women out there, this very year in 2026, who have made statements implying they would kill the teachers involved. Like, it's complete fantasy, they just love to be angry and act tough about stuff that's not happening and never will.

[–] dion_starfire@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The litter box thing gets even better - the root of it was a school that did indeed have litter boxes in every classroom, meant for human use. But it had nothing to do with Therian kids identifying as cats. It was in response to the question "what if a kid needs to use the bathroom during an active shooter lockdown?"

They are putting dicks on people? Where are they sourcing them? Are they removing some dicks, to put them on other people? This seems like the wildest nonsence yet.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wouldn't a reverse trans surgery still be a trans surgery? That's themselves point. Gender confirmation. In this mythical case, confirming the gender they want the person to have rather than the gender they are.

So clearly any previous claims about safety, child safety and surgical regret are completely ingenuine. Quelle surprise?

Are people in South Carolina worried about making ends meet or are they worried about whether somebody playing in girls' high school sports has a penis? These are two completely different things, and where are the people worried about "girls" playing in boys' sports?
