There is no way in hell Detroit will let Ben Johnson go to the bears. They will legit offer him a significant bonus to stay out of the division lol. Or provide some kind of financial incentive to accept a HC job out of division
Chicago Bears
#1 Eric Bienemy #2 Harbaugh #3 Ben J
No thanks. Tired of the hot coordinator 1st time head coaches. Been there done that
Getting dominated by us for 55 minutes isn’t that inspiring
Overall I wouldn’t disagree but weird timing for this post, our mediocre at best defense dominated Detroit outside of the last two drives when we were foolishly playing prevent D
Ben Johnson didn’t call for goff to throw all those ints
Would love to have him. Will be interesting to see if the organization wants more of an experienced hire though after two 1st time HCs
Ben Johnson would feast with an offense of Fields, Moore, MHJ, Scott, Herbert, Roshon, Kmet
foreman is better than herbert
Hate to break it to you guys but he won’t be staying in the division
After yesterday’s game?
Bro was the #1 target last offseason. He turned down HC interviews last year. We are SUPREMELY lucky he did that to let us get a chance at snagging him.
It’s his offense. Campbell isn’t pulling the strings like Reid for Nagy. It’s Johnson’s offense and he’s innovating his offense to keep it fresh while teams have tape (see Trestman/Nagy not doing that and getting figured out).
He’s legit. The question of him as a HC, is can he hire a competent staff. That’s what can set him apart. Just hand him a blank check and hope he figures that part out
Realistically, Ben Johnson will probably coach the Chargers or the Bills next year. Unless the bolts do something stupid like hire belichick and bills retain Mcdermit.
The Bears hopefully will be the second or third best job open.
- Bills (if they lose in the divisional round).
- Chargers - proven franchise qb and lots of pieces.
- Bears - QB and two high draft picks. Need to build the lines.
- Panthers - might have a QB in place, basically need everything else on offense.
- Commanders - feels like a rebuild is needed but coaches are propping them up as much as they can.
- Raiders - total rebuild.
- Patriots - total rebuild.
Wild card head coach firings Bucs or Titans.
Keep in mind lions will be a playoff team so bears will need to wait. If the bears miss out on Johnson then Bobby Slowik is a really interesting candidate who is from the Shanahan tree. Both of these guys have demonstrated so far the got the offense to players they have in place.
Bears can also look at Kellan Moore (yuck), Jim Harbaugh (yawn and not really an offensive guru), Brian Johnson of the eagles (hasn’t put his mark on the eagles imo), Eric Bieniemy (Poles wouldn’t even interview him two years ago, so something major would have to change).
Dude made Goof look good, I’m fully on board.
NO! STOP FUCKING GIVING UNPROVENS HC POSITIONS AFTER ONE GOOD YEAR FFS!
Rivera will be available as well.
Number 1 target should always be Jim Harbaugh until he says no. I honestly think this team, really this entire organization, needs leadership.
He’s turned programs around and succeeded. His players believe in him wholeheartedly, and they believe in each other — that’s examples of real leadership. He understands the rivalry with the Packers, but more importantly, he understands the position and what it would take to get it right HERE, where he played.
Hiring Jim Harbaugh, at least going after him intensely, would convince me this organization knows what needs to be done to move out of the basement of the NFL.
Hiring another flavor-of-the-week “genius” coach tells me they’re grasping at straws, hoping something works. We just tried it with Luke Getsy, we tried it with Matt Nagy, we tried it with Dowell Loggains, we tried it with Adam Gase, we tried it with Marc Trestman.
We really need to stop hiring first time head coaches and maybe get someone who has done the job before.
There's a snowball's chance in hell the Bears are going to compete for Ben Johnson. Chargers, Bills, Pats, Falcons, and any other HC needy team will throw Gruden levels of cash at him, the Bears won't. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Ron Rivera and some "up and coming" young OC. Have to keep the dream of 85' going a couple of more years.
I don't think they'll hire Rivera because the one predictable thing about the Bears HC hiring is they go for the opposite kind of guy as their last hire. Alternated offense/defense each time back to Lovie, and relatedly alternate supposedly innovative with old school guys, which generally means alternating young/old as well.
Oh did he beat the Bears. What a genius
Let’s just see how they do.. I have a feeling they might be the same old lions
Harbaugh is going to the NFL next season and hes gonna take whatever team that hires him to 3 straight Conference Championships and bring home at least 1 Lombardi. I'm gonna be so pissed when the Bears aren't that team.
Will he even have permission to talk, or is his contract up?
After all those interceptions he threw ?/s
Goff had his worst game of the season and they still managed to win. That’s a guy I can get behind.
I think the bears look like a pretty attractive coaching destination right now. Tons of picks and cap space, a QB who may be it but the resources to get your guy if he's not and a young solid o line and secondary.
This coaching staff is clearly awful and I think any coach could see that and think they can get more out of this squad.
Johnson should definitely be the #1 target
Lions fan here. I come in peace.
You don't want Ben Johnson. He is a horrible human being. I live in his neighborhood and he passed out candy corn to the kids.
Holy cringe balls get tf outta here
It is true. He is an absolute monster. He always reserves the best sellers at the library and doesn't read the books! Just borrows them so other people can't read them!
And he never returns shopping carts at the grocery store
Lions fans hate the guy. You don't want him
We had our DC leave this year for unknown reasons possibly related to workplace harassment. We are ready. We'll take this horrible, horrible man.
You're just saying that so we wouldn't be interested. We all know he hands out full-sized Snicker bars like a boss!
This is exactly right, just replace Ben Johnson with Jim Harbaugh. Let’s take a shot at a proven head coach that can evidence time and time again that he can win.
Enough with the Bears as the HC proving ground for up and coming coordinators.
I’m wishing for Brian Johnson from the Eagles. Before he was the oc he was the qb coach. Whether we keep fields or draft a qb, I’d love to see a qb minded head coach.
Can we steal from Wisconsin AND Michigan in the same year?
Send a draft pick to PIT for Mike Tomlin
Um? WTF? The Lions offense was terrible against our terrible defense.
This sub is so dumb sometimes (most of the time).
I wouldn't be mad at that, but there's still something that doesn't feel right.
Why don't we, just as a suggestion, as silly as it may sound, wait, hear me out....why don't we hire someone, that has actual experience, as a head coach?
It's just a thought!
Do we know if he's good at leading a full team though? I'd prefer to hire someone that has had previous head coaching experience.
Slowik, would be bad either. We talk about how can an unproven quarterback can do this and that, he has Johnson and Dell wide open all the time. Houston’s Oline is extremely good from years of drafting high but Slowik is calling a really good games week after week.
