Poles trading for Claypool was enough for me to question his judgment.
Chicago Bears
Makes sense. Poles hired Eberflus and thought it was a good idea.
Shouldn’t have let Poles make the Sweat trade if he’s on the hot seat or even close to it.
What has Kevin Warren ever done on the “football side” ? All of their hires are so disjointed. They hire another dumbass to fire the prior dumbass.
I feel like Poles should get more time. The entire coaching staff can kick rocks
/u/Ryan_Polls your job clearly is NOT safe.
Concerning
LET'S GO!
The entire Bears organization has been just outstanding in their decision-making since the McCaskeys took over... so I'm supremely confident that this will go well too, regardless.
Note... I also have a fleet of yachts for sale.
The only way Poles keeps his job is showing he's a serious person and firing the worst coach in Bears history.
Warren uses Big 10 connections to sign Harbaugh in the offseason to 4 years, 81 milly (1 more than Belichik). Throw in a few million for a NFC Championship game or Super Bowl appearance clause and you have a stud coach setting Fields or Caleb Williams up for success within 2 years AND a winning franchise to open your new stadium and hold season ticket holders hostage for crazy Personal Seat License fees. It’s a no brainer so it won’t happen.
Poles has made some big mistakes - the main one obviously being Flus but he's also done some good things. I'd be fine with Poles staying as long as they get rid of Flus but if he's still backing Flus then ya he's gotta go
I think poles has actually done a decent job throwing a squad together. It’s flus and getsy that can get lost
It would be absolutely the wrong move to fire Poles.
Oh my god please please please.
For once can we hire a GM and let him get his coach and together they get the QB.
Just try that one time.
I swear 90% of posts on here are just people saying I told you so
Poles should stay and the entire coaching staff should go
Poles has done fairly well with the draft. Wright is a guy and we got DJ Moore and high 1st RDer for the Bryce Young pick
I don’t really care for nothingbugers, but when I get them I like’em SPIcy. This will do.
Fake news
I’m okay with either outcome, so long as flus is gone
The top guy is the top football guy in the Bears org. This is the answer that the Bears have always given when asked if they need more layers of executive management to fix the team. My guess is George is ready to get out of his own way, and realizes that the only way we are going to fix this team is for us to properly sequence our hiring such that the top football guy Kevin Warren gets to choose his own GM, who then gets to choose his own coach, who both then get to choose their own QB.
It was incredibly obvious that we had turds in the punch bowl after week 1 this year. Team needs a restart from the restart. Poles is just as responsible for a shit team as the coaches he hired.
Honestly of the 4 major sports, i think NFL GMs are the least important GMs of all. So much of having a successful team is coaching and scheme fit, to the point all NFL GMs need to do is negotiate and pick players that fit the scheme well and thats it, while most of it is up to the coaching staff to properly develop.
That being said, idc who is the GM, i just want flus and the coaching staff gone. This team looks no better than last year, while having a MUCH better roster on paper, all thanks to them. As long as Flus and Co are employed we arent winning more than 5 games a season.
The only reason poles should be gone is if he ties himself to eberlose and refuses to move off him at the end of this season. He’s had a couple egregious moves on the Velus pick (which is bound to happen at some point to literally every gm ever) claypool trade, and just completely ignoring center this off-season when he had multiple opportunities to at least address it. The roster is clearly showing massive improvement and a lot of his picks are really starting to pan out. Our o line is primed to become a dominant unit with a center. Our secondary is starting to look very good. Our run defense is already top 3 in the nfl despite having no real starting dt. And he has managed to get off every bad contract we had in a year while gaining capital in the process. The only reason this gm job would even be appealing is because of the groundwork poles has laid.
I think the most likely scenario is that Poles wants to bring Eberflus back and warren steps in and says you either fire him and we can find a new head coach or I’m going to fire you both and start over which will inevitably lead to the Bears hiring a new head coach
and was laughed at
Can’t tell if you’re trying to indirectly pat yourself on the back with a facetious follow up after that line or if it’s a genuine question?
Half the people on this sub are going to laugh at you no matter what you say. It’s not the end of the world and it’s not like the other half doesn’t exist thinking it could happen. Vocal minority is an important concept on Reddit, but especially on this sub after the last year (it’s been wayyy crazier than years past)
Fine. Whatever. Who cares? Just make us good.
This would set a bad precident and put a ton of extra pressure on whoever replaces him. "if you don't turn the Bears around in less than 2 years, the Bears find someone else." How many people would be willing to take that risk?
This rebuild was always going to take well more than 2 years in the first place.
Let him use his own process to find a new head coach not be forced to pick one from a list of candidates already picked out.
🧢
Nobody is perfect and Poles has made more smart moves than bad ones. Flus has made more bad ones.Don't care either way really, but don't mind Poles
We absolutely better fire Poles, too. I don't want ANOTHER GM picking a QB that they're not going to be around to build a team around.
I am going to be more reasonable than most of you. Flus is a good DC and a good coach when it comes to defensive development. looking at Gordon, Dexter, Stevenson and the like, he’s taken athletes and developed their football skills.
With that said,he is not a good head coach and his philosophy and approach to how football is played has cost this team several wins, caused a bad pairing between QB and OC and in my opinion, sabotaged a QB who needed to develop consistency but was never given the opportunity.
you obviously have Poles tied to Eberflus if he wants to be.
You hire a veteran Offensive head coach who has experience calling plays for at least two seasons. so you can let him decide what QB and Prospects to get this year.
I understand why you do not want to lose those skills that Flus brings, so hire a good veteran DC who runs a 4-3. Ron Rivera should be available.
I agree. We should bring back Nagy.
This is BS. Poles, the advisor this dude hired, and Flus all share an agent.
The whole reason we're in this mess is because the agent most likely gave them a deal and the "advisor" probably got a % for getting "his guys" in.
This is all their fault.
I like Poles and think he can stay. But Flus, and everyone associated to Flus need to be fired. Then anyone related to that agent except Poles needs to be fired. Then any candidates put forward by that agent need to be thrown out.
This was a nepotism staff from top to bottom. Get rid of it. We don't need rich people sitting money back and forth as favors. We need to win games.
Let Fields play out this season. I believe in him.
Fire Flus has been my mantra since week 2. I never believed in him.
I believed in Poles going into this season. But he can get it too.
While I think this is just speculation, the one way I do see this happening is if they bring in Harbaugh.
If JH comes to the NFL he is going to ask for a good amount of power. He is going to want a similar situation as BB on the Patriots.
Warren and Poles not best friends ok
I hope so
Kevin wants to hire his own guys. It was silly not to hire him first. But the Bears ownership does everything ass-backwards.
They're insults to common sense.
Nothing is off the table. Nothing is on the table. There is no table.
There’s nothing absurd about this thought process. It happens all the time around the league. For whatever reason Bears fans, and especially the ones on this sub, grow some kind of cancer-like attachment to GMs and coaches. Poles hasn’t done a terrible job, but he should be fired. His coach is absolute ass and he’s fumbled the bag on putting a team together with any coherent plan. I don’t want this clown making a decision on the next no. 1 overall and another coach. Kevin Warren should pick his own guy.
Why does every post have to start with "I got laughed at" or "I got downvoted into oblivion" - nobody cares about your post history or karma - just put your new post up
The telling part of this account is that Warren might want to get more involved in football operations. Read between the lines, that means he wasn’t brought in to be part of football operations. I think this is a case a National writer who doesn’t really know the power structure of the Bears. Warren was brought in to handle the business end of the Bears in general and the stadium in particular. Poles was hired with the idea that he runs the football side of things. Warren isn’t a “football guy” in the sense that he played, coached or scouted. He ran the business end of things with the Vikings and was Big Ten Commissioner. So he knows more than the average fan but nowhere near what someone like Poles does.
I think the only way you will see Warren step in is if he wants Jim Harbaugh and Poles doesn’t. I doubt that happens, one because I could see Poles and Harbaugh working together and two because Warren and Harbaugh didn’t have a particularly good relationship when Warren was in the Big Ten.
Also, I don’t know how the McCaskey’s can fire Poles. He came in and has done exactly what he said he was going to do, tear everything down and rebuild it. This team has good young talent, plenty of cap room, draft picks and the dead wood cleared out. They would be the laughingstock of the league if they fired Poles now.
