Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Just make it so normal that people accept it.

And for others they can say "he's joking, like he was always joking"

Pretty much.

Anyone with half a brain cell knows that he is a pathological liar. And even worse than being a pathological liar, he's a pathological "truth bender". At no point is he lying, and at no point is he ever telling the truth. This gives him a method to worm his way out of any verbal snafu he found himself in. He learned it by emulating his sociopathic father, and he taught his children the same trick.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 35 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Are you sure trump isn't also a sociopath? He doesn't care if his actions kill people, or hurt others, really unless it hurts him personally, he doesn't give a shit about anything else.

That sounds like textbook sociopath to me.

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 2 years ago (1 children)

We could spend all day talking about Trump being a sociopath. I've only got so much time on this Earth.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Same, maybe we should do something else useful with our time. He spent 4 years living in my head, I don't want him taking up any more real-estate

[–] EatYouWell@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

He's definitely a narcissist, but I'm betting he also has an unattachment disorder (which is pretty common in serial killers)

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginningless time, darkness thrives in the void, but always yields to purifying light.

In the era before the Avatar, we bent not the elements, but the truth within ourselves. To bend another's truth, your own spirit must be unbendable, or you will be corrupted and destroyed.

One day is all it takes for a dictator to destroy a democracy...

[–] squaresinger@feddit.de 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

In that case, let's hope he's an absolutely incompetent idiot who will fail fast and spectacularly or an old guy who will die fast, so that when he's gone people all agree that this wasn't a great political experiment and all join in together to rebuild the political system much better than before.

[–] EatYouWell@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (3 children)

That's definitely a nice thought, but you'd have better odds of winning the lottery.

When has the death of a dictator by old age ever defaulted back to democracy? There's a lot of people helping him, I'm sure more than a handful are eager to step into his shoes.

[–] BeanGoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Franco in Spain. Not saying that's a good plan to go with, but it has happened.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Ah yeah, I forget about him. But yeah, not a great plan.

He doesn’t need to normalize it. Anyone demented enough to still support him wants him to be a dictator. The only difference is whether they can admit that to themselves or not.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 29 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I feel like saying you'll only be a dictator on day one is just saying that a dictator doesn't abdicate power, and a dictator on day one is always a dictator until death.

[–] Endorkend@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not always, but whenever we did the "lets put the dictator on a remote island" or similar thing, they came back, with a vengeance.

[–] chaogomu@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It depends on the island. Napoleon died on a remote island. It took a few tries though.

[–] tryptaminev@feddit.de 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

and burned down half of Europe in the process

[–] chaogomu@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

To be fair, Napoleon didn't actually start any of his wars, it was the European nobility launching wars to reinstate the French Monarchy.

[–] Rusticus@lemmy.world 28 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Any citizen of the US that votes for this bozo should forfeit their citizenship.

[–] Marin_Rider@aussie.zone 10 points 2 years ago

they already forfeited their brain and morals, what's a peice of paper to them

[–] kromem@lemmy.world 25 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well no, you misunderstood.

He's only a dictator on day one.

On day two and thereafter, he's the Supreme Leader.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

From day two onwards he's just a dicktator.

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

And now you've gone and reminded me that we've got on good authority that he's got a dick like a tater tot.

You show me a boat filled with potato dildos and I'll show you a dictatorship.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I'm so sorry we have to endure that thought together... again 🙁

[–] aelwero@lemmy.world 22 points 2 years ago (6 children)

Did he actually say that shit? Please tell me he said that shit... He's hosed next year if he said that.

[–] NounsAndWords@lemmy.world 66 points 2 years ago (2 children)

He did, and his poll numbers didn't drop.

[–] LadyLikesSpiders@lemmy.ml 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Almost like that's what his supporters wanted anyway

[–] Alto@kbin.social 22 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Nothing quite like actively advocating for the end of democracy to own the libs!

[–] Kadaj21@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

With glorious applause at that. Cue Padme!

[–] aelwero@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Polls are crap anyway... Lol

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 30 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Basically he's been publicly accused of being a fascist (he is) and a wannabe dictator (he is) so many times in the media, that it's starting to lose all meaning. He knows that if you repeat a lie enough times it becomes the new truth, so he's just word salading his way through to next November. None of his supporters care, and nobody who has been anti-Trump is surprised.

Sean Hannity: "You're not going to be a dictator, are you?"

Donald Trump: " No, no no, other than day 1."

[–] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Like a real life Futurama Nixon?

[–] forty2@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago (3 children)

He’s hosed next year if he said that

I honestly wish it was as hands down as that. What he said appeals to exactly the kind of people it was directed at....and there are so SO many of those people out there. Majority? I don't know; and that in itself is a problem....it should be absolutely obvious that a significant majority of people aren't aligned with him. But its not.

I'll betcha this ends up working to his advantage somehow.

fucking depressed myself with my own comment. I'm going to go take an Ace Ventura style shower

Yes, and the strategy is basically: the courts/activists/army didn't let me do what I needed to do, so I'll have to extend my dictatorship until it's sorted. Then it never gets sorted.

[–] capital@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

He's hosed next year if he said that

I mean no offense but, how old are you? I’m trying to figure out how one could still have that much faith in the US voting population.

[–] theKalash@feddit.ch 4 points 2 years ago

Did he actually say that shit?

Search your feelings, you know it to be true!

[–] Marin_Rider@aussie.zone 16 points 2 years ago

everyone jokes that Idiocracy is coming to life, fuck that, you guys got the Purge to deal with

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

It's only a coup for one day while we establish the dictatorship. After that it will just be the new normal

[–] Aatube@kbin.social 9 points 2 years ago

not a typical showerthought but sure

[–] IWantToFuckSpez@kbin.social 9 points 2 years ago

“No no it’s just the tip.”

[–] JayK117@aussie.zone 8 points 2 years ago

I bet Putin joked that he would throw an opponent out the window once. I think it went well.. for him

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Yeah dude... Same playbook for 8 years now?

[–] ghostdoggtv@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Remember the Rittenhouse defense when push comes to shove.
