we don't have enough contraptions in modern day life

I could have been a happy professional contraption operator

Might be metal. Most modern metal has a kind of kayfabe attached to it where the over the top nature of it is kind of… ironic? I dunno, feels like there’s something there.

[–] PapaEmeritusIII@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I agree, it’s metal because of the kayfabe. And it gets even funnier when you think about all the metal purists who take it super seriously and try to gatekeep it

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

I enjoy the kayefabe part of metal so the gatekeepers always amuse the hell out of me. Like, some dude goes on stage dressed in studded leather and corpsepaint singing about Satan fucking Jesus with a crucifix and then he goes home and tucks his kids into bed and posts pictures of taking his dog on walkies.

Nothing like listening to a symphonic metal band shred while singing about swords and sorcery in a heavy Italian accent

https://youtube.com/watch?v=AKq1et3t1GI

edit: I accidentally a whole metal

oh yeah, metal is an inherently silly genre

Came here to say this

white guy country-rap

[–] flees@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

Folk Punk. Not that I think the genre itself is funny, but I swear every band comes out with a “funny” song and it’s fantastic.

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it's country rap. second place goes to lounge crooners like sinatra and dean martin.

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Lounge crooners kinda just suck imo lol

Yeah being serious, there are very few genres that have songs that I find funny and Ska has a disproportionate amount of them.

[–] CptKrkIsClmbngThMntn@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I came here to say this but I actually find it kinda haha funny, especially knowing that electroswing was one of the whitest genres in existence when we were in that boom ten years ago.

Third wave ska music. It has to be, it sounds silly and fun, and I say this as someone that likes the genre.

Contemporary Afrikaana music is often funny in a "so bad it becomes funny" way. Like how does one listen to artists like snotkop and Jan Jan band, and think it's good music? It's obviously a joke. The problem is that this kind of irony is way overdone in Afrikaans musiek, so no one takes it seriously or listens. I refuse to listen to that kind of nonsense to be honest.

As much as I hate it, AI voices being set to songs. Some of them are pretty good. Anytime I throw in a Neco Arc AI voice cover, my co-worker laughs, especially if it's one he hasn't heard yet. Neco Arc cover of the Bad Touch gets me every time.

[–] dannoffs@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

The AI cover of Hasan singing Red Sun in the Sky unironically slaps.

[–] Mindfury@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

HEALTH have pioneered the genre known as "Cum Metal" and i'm here for it

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Ironically it's not Comedy. Likely something like one of Metal's millions of subgenres takes the crown.
