Back when he used to be the host, libs would hold this sort of humor up as a sign that he was being fair and equal with all politicians. Sign of how deep the Blue MAGA brainworms have gotten.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 52 points 1 year ago

Is a real eye opener when you realize libs are LITERALLY Blue MAGA to Red MAGA.

Even as recently as like 2015, he was critical of Obama from time to time and they didn't ream him out for it

Alastair Campbell: Has Barack Obama been a good president?

Jon Stewart: That is too broad a question to answer. The difficulty has been the difference between rhetoric and reality. When you run on hope and change - "Yes we can", "We are the ones we've been waiting for" - that is a message of true reform. And then you govern from the perspective of "I will put a new coat of paint on this termite-infested place"... When he was running for re-election, I said, "You ran from a place of Roosevelt-style 'We must up-end the institutions, for they are failing' and governed from a place of pragmatism: 'We had the financial crisis, we must work within the system.' So do you still believe 'Yes we can'?" "Yes," he said, "absolutely." Then there was a pause and he said, "But..." And the audience exploded.

Campbell: The "but" was the rhetoric being caught by reality.

Stewart: Exactly. If you are going to have the audacity of rhetoric you have to have audacity of effort. If there is disappointment in Obama it is that he didn't go down swinging.

Stewart: People would like to have seen more noble failure.

Trump really did break these people

Yup as much as liberals claim to hate Trump they're also feverishly copying his play book.

No criticism can be tolerated, dems are the best at everything ever, anybody who disagrees its just because they're a very nasty person (not good).

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 64 points 1 year ago

You're not watching The Daily Show because Jon Stewart insulted your overlord.

I am not watching The Daily Show because I would rather be lobotomized.

We are not the same.

Lmao he literally is "cutting through the bullshit" by actually pointing out that Biden is a geriatric ghoul.

It really is hilarious that blue Maga doesn't realize how secure of an echo chamber theyve built.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 57 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Something you can tell a lib - about 8 out of ten voters say Biden is too old and he has less than a 40% approval rating. And then you wait for them to protest that "You can't just make shit up," and you show them this tweet by Nate Silver...

You don't demonstrate your seriousness that Trump is an existential threat to democracy by going through the motions to renominate an 81-year-old with a 38% approval rating who 75% of voters think is too old without giving anyone a choice because that's just how things are done.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 52 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Saw a poll recently that said 86% of voters thought he was too old.

He's gonna get blown the fuck out.

Although I literally don't understand how Trump gets a pass on also having his brain leaking out of his ears, I guess his strategy of speaking like an unintelligible moron for the last 40 years made the decline less obvious.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago (1 children)

how Trump gets a pass

Biden looks frail, moves slowly, speaks slowly, and it seems like his brainpan is filled with porridge.

Trump is an old, fat guy who is in just as bad shape. But he's a reality tv star who knows how to perform plus he doesn't suffer from Biden's insufferable sloooooooooooowness. After Trump left the hospital due to covid - he took a helicopter to the White House. He did something that to me seemed insane and I'm sure no other politician would do. He had cameras right there near the entrance before he went inside. He wanted close-up footage showing he was back and everything was fine.

To me he looked like death warmed over - he was clearly struggling to breathe and I actually wondered if he was damaging his health with this stunt. Who knows - maybe he did. But Trump understands his base better than anybody. And much better than I do. They didn't see what I saw which is what I think what any sane, honest person saw - an old, fat guy in terrible shape who is in obvious physical distress. They saw their hero returning to the White House after a minor health problem that's not even worth mentioning by name. Lib media was afraid to mention the obvious because they were afraid of seeming partisan.

After January 6th - lib media became even more obsessed with - in their mind - Trump's inevitable downfall. Mueller and the impeachment didn't work but and this(!) will surely take Trump down! Decent republicans will surely be against a coup! Of course - the GOP was critical of Trump and January 6th for a few weeks but then they did what they always do - suck up to him. He's their cult leader after all. And if you go against the leader of a cult - he'll spare no effort in destroying you and ejecting you from the group. Bow down to Trump and bend the knee.

Since 2021 - lib media has been reporting day after week after month convincing itself that Trump's downfall is just around the bend. It has to happen! 91 criminal counts! So they oddly ignore all the crazy shit Trump says all the time. They are so focused on getting justice they keep forgetting to simply quote Trump and let him hang himself by his own petard. Instead hour after hour they breathlessly cover his trials because they understand if Trump wins in 2024 - they'll never get justice. But they refuse to accept they will get justice! American exceptionalism is a hell of a drug.

Meanwhile - Fani Willis might have fucked up her own case by creating a sex scandal by having a relationship with one of her underlings. If she wins the Georgia case - Trump can't pardon himself for it. But her case might die on its own. Also - even if she wins years from now - as president or not - Trump might simply ignore the result. What is the State of Georgia going to do - get into a literal firefight with the Secret Service?

Full disclosure didn't read all of that but Trump absolutely regularly looks slow and frail.

After hengot out of the hospital he tried to g8ve a speech to look tough but was wheezing so bad he barely got through it and then looked like he barely managed to walk away unsupported.

He regularly takes three attempts to say a word and then tries to play it off by acting like he just invented the word.

Not to defend Biden but suggesting Trump looks healthy and active is one of the most insane takes I've read in a while.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 40 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Full disclosure didn't read all of that yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada yada

Then you have no idea what I said.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (4 children)

I got to the part where you said Trump sounded sharp and was quick and looked healthy when he left the hospital and stopped wasting my time.

[–] nohaybanda@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago

You're in the wrong, bruh. Go read their comment, you've completely missed their point.

[–] Raebxeh@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

Super not what was said. I literally went back to double check that I hadn’t missed something. In your response you agreed with the comment while acting like you were debunking it. Just don’t respond if you’re not gonna read.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Sorry I'll try to be a better communist by being impressed by the rhetorical skills a syphlitic game show host that's been a stereotype of "dumb guy" for 40 years.

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No investigation, no right to speak. Pretty fuckin simple.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yea that's why everybody honestly and earnestly engages with every chud and lib who comes through here and says stupid stuff and we deffinitly don't just have half a dozen people posting emojis at them.

[–] goose@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The thing that people are trying to tell you here is that you misread (or failed to read) the comment and badly misinterpreted it.

It’s ok to just take an L here and laugh about it. I am a chronic L-taker and am not dead yet

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

Fair I was gonna let it lie but seeing somebody use the quote about how you have a responsibility to fully read every comment on an obscure leftist shitposting site if you want to have the right to speak was a little to self righteous for me to not say something.

That and I've read the comment and still think people tend to overblown his charisma or instinct. He's just an unreoentant dumb asshole which causes other dumb asshole to agree with anything he says. He gets way to much credit for being some kind of chid whisperer when in reality he barely hides his contempt for them.

[–] casskaydee@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

I stopped reading after the first five words but I'm just going to assume the rest of your comment was admitting to sucking donkey dicks and drinking your own piss. I just have to say.. what the fuck man?

[–] goose@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Hey, maybe that’s the secret: just utter blatant disdain with the thinnest possible layer of lip service on top. If someone respects you, how lickable can their boots possibly be?

[–] Bay_of_Piggies@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

I think this is just a round-about way of saying he has showman charisma

[–] farting_weedman@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

I support you not reading and posting instead because reading sucks and posting is cool. Dont listen to the liberals in your replies!

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can hardly tell liberals any facts before things just devolve straight into a “but trump worst!!!” hissy-fit.

Quite a strong leadership platform Biden has cultivated.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

Before at least it was just Orange Man Bad and they lost interest. But now it's Orange Man Bad Fascist and then they lecture you how you gotta vote.

[–] Lurker123@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Scrolled down a bit from that tweet. Saw there was a reply guy called “Mueller, she wrote” trying to dunk on Nate, I think.

What goes through somebody’s mind to think that is anything other than a deeply embarrassing screen name to have. Unless it’s a satire account, in which case it is chef’s kiss.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

“Mueller, she wrote”

She's a piece of work. She insufferable, she punches left, and she's a lib grifter. The article might be at a right-wing site but it's the only article I could find.

TikTok & Podcaster Allison Gill, Mueller She Wrote, Exposed as Fraud and Stealing valor - BlackSportsOnline

She apparently needed $52,000 in PPP loans forgiven for running a really successful podcast.

[–] Lurker123@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Damn bro why you gotta shatter my illusions like that. Not only is that not a satire account, but it is a successful podcast. Buddha is right, life is suffering.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Buddha is right, life is suffering.

Yeap.

And you know all lib grifters are secretly hoping Trump wins. If Biden wins - they don't get that sweet, sweet revenue stream bump. Trump is money in the bank, baby. Money in the bank.

To learn how to RESIST Trump - listen to my brand new podcast RESISTrump. Also check out my store for the honest RESISTrump merch! And...

Will not be watching.

So true bestie, me neither

[–] huf@hexbear.net 48 points 1 year ago

i was not expecting jon stewart of all people to come out as a trump supporter maga chud... shocking.

[–] regul@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago

My wife watched it and I was in the room.

He still went as soft on Biden as conceivably possible. Like he compared Biden'a failure to remember things during a deposition to Trump and his family's obvious lying about not recalling during deposition.

I mean I say "he" but it's not like the writers of the show have changed just because Stewart is back in the chair.

I tried listening to Jon Stewart's podcast where he had some young environmentalist on and the vibe I got from him is pure hopelessness. He more or less exists in the same reality as us but sees absolutely no possibility of things ever changing.

The entire time he was gone he was trying to get the federal government to pay for 9/11 first responders medical bills and was denied every time.

[–] TheDialectic@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

If you consider him being gen x and developing his political consciousness in the end of history and weatching everything slowly degrade then rapidly degrade that perspective is easy to imagine

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah. I suspect he's, at one point, come to the conclusion that a revolution is the only way but then he was like 'nah, we'd totally lose that'. The young environmentalist he was talking to kept pointing out all of the things we need to do are contrary to the interest of capital so we need to combat them. His response was something like 'We literally don't have time to overthrow the capitalists, so we have to negotiate on their terms.' The problem with that is they have absolutely no reason to negotiate with us unless we can threaten them in any way.

[–] Hux@lemmy.ml 27 points 1 year ago

In context, Jon made it pretty clear that he considered the possibility of a second Trump presidency as an overwhelming threat—he was simply asking if running a man who is (objectively, in the sense he is currently 10-years past the actuary table life expectancy for his demographic) old.

I think it is very reasonable to question a party’s candidate. We operate in a 2-party system. We have never determined the most meritorious candidates from our populace, just the selected candidates from the political parties.

If the Democratic Party genuinely believes a second Trump presidency would be a threat to America, her allies, and interests, then the “selected” party candidate in a 2-party system should be exceptionally qualified—ideally with little question or doubt. Anything less than a “perfect” candidate, when facing a significant national threat, would seem irresponsible.

Joe Biden may, in fact, be the best candidate to run. If nothing else, the two current candidates reveal the problems of allowing political parties to, in effect, select each president with a 50/50 chance of success—in a population of 335 million.

Jon said an 81-year old candidate is old. And he made it quite clear, that yes, for a human he is objectively old. It isn’t an attack on Biden, it is a raised concern for how the Democratic Party approaches a national threat.
