Lemmy obviously is "smaller" so there isn't as much breadth of content, but I like it. I just don't like that the smaller community makes me feel like I'm more likely to be "recognized" over time, I prefer to be "just another voice."

How I resist reddit is easy: fuck spez.

I wouldn't consider myself hardcore for it, but yeah I only use Lemmy. Nothing else lol

Used to use reddit until they pulled their bullshit with 3rd party apps.

Edit: another answer made me reconsider what it means to "use" reddit, so yeah if I'm searching for information on Google or something and there's an answer on Reddit I'll read it, but I don't log in or communicate on there at all.

Once nuance is required to understand something you've lost.

This will now just be "fact" and yet another form of ammunition to solidify the rights belief that everything bad is from the left, that they're the violent ones, and that there's a "proven" conspiracy within the Democratic party...

This article was from right after the election, before Rockland county found that its votes didn't add up and the investigation that followed.

I'd be curious to see newsweeks update considering that information.

Tea isn't that popular here although I'd argue in recent years it has been gaining on what it once was. I think where other countries kettles are the norm, here "coffee makers" are the norm.

The majority of the more "popular" form of tea we'd have here is probably considered an abomination onto nuggin elsewhere: sweet tea. (Iced tea with about 628648lbs of sugar in it.)

It's exactly why they picked her. "Be nasty to the media" was pretty much her only order.

Well since it's an inter continental ballistic missile then obviously it could burrow underground as well. Duhhhhh.

True, but to MAGA there are like 5 kinds of people in the world: White, Black, Arab, Chinese, Mexican.

Trillions of dollars...

I FUCKING WISH trillions... Jesus...

It's only been my entire damn life that I hear "NASA budget cut, NASA budget cut, this program, that program, cut..." Hell they're cutting one of the only x-ray telescope programs we have at all...

"I mean sure, the baby died, but I really wouldn't have known what to do at all without chatGPT! At least it gave me the proper procedure to follow after they died. Who knew you needed to make a post to eBay for a sale of used parts? I guess that's a medical code or something. I should ask ChatGPT!"

"Sure, I can provide you an easy recipe for pancakes: just be sure to click like and subscribe! Now the ingredients..."

Not to mention all the theft as mentioned elsewhere here...

This is talking about "wealth" so I'm pretty sure absolutely insane house prices contributed to this as well :/

25 minute exposure of NGC 2264 taken with a seestar s50. Testing the new denoise function added in the most resent seestar firmware update.

No further post processing so colors seem to be a bit off as a result of the denoise feature, but otherwise an amazing result as most images from the seestar s50 contain a lot of RGB noise!

Hey Lemmy! Time to do some digging!

I was sent a link from a friend about some Totally Cool™ guy who has close ties to JD Vance: Curtis Yarvin. Anyone aware of this guy and his desires? I won't put the link in here as my last post was removed because of it, but a comment within the thread is copied below.

Apparently Japanese media covered the story as was posted to Reddit, but there doesn't seem to be too much talk of this in the US.

From a comment in the reddit discussion: “Curtis Yarvin is a far-right ‘intellectual’ that wants to end democracy and install what I can only really describe as cyberpunk feudalism. He’s suggested turning the United States into a patchwork of corporate fiefdoms ruled with absolute impunity by CEOs, as well as putting mandatory ankle monitors on all unemployed and poor people. This sounds like a joke, but I’m serious. JD Vance is not just a fan of him intellectually, but also a personal friend. As someone who has known about Yarvin for several years, it’s been really concerning seeing how he could potentially become a Rasputin-like figure in the event of a Trump victory. Beyond this, Yarvin has also spent many years advocating for what sounds eerily like Project 2025.”

For those familiar with Star Citizen lore, he apparently wants to turn the US into the Stanton system “lol” …
