Indigenous people: saving the rest of us from ourselves.

Yes, the likes of Peter Thiel and Elon Musk have identified those characteristics as interfering with their dark ambitions. They seem to be behind the campaign to change hearts and minds for the worse.

There is definitely a serious societal problem. There is a parenting crisis leading to a peer-attachment crisis. And our communities reflect it. As another commenter mentioned, we need to relearn to have some empathy in our consciousness so we can provide healthy psychological attachments.

I do like the idea of a known, quality brand. Thanks for the rec.

Seriously considering this, thank you! I'll update if I get it :)

I'm looking for something quality without spending much more than EUR 50. I'm guessing the best way to go is a refurbished or second hand Playstation controller? (currently boycotting Microsoft). I appreciate any recommendations.

I see some good looking budget options but then read about occasional lag issues, stuck buttons or incompatibility with games. But these are designed for major consoles so maybe that's all irrelevant when it comes to macOS compatibility. I'm totally green here. Thanks!

I’ve never been to Turtle Island, but indigenous news should be national news. Every day.

In my small country there is a new law that a percentage of media must be created in our native language. A similar law for including native news makes sense for colonies like USA/Canada etc.

Why did I have to see this right before bed

And a story like this happening right outside their door.

But we are boycotting XBox https://bdsmovement.net/news/boycott-microsofts-xbox

“Microsoft is perhaps the most complicit tech company in Israel’s illegal occupation, apartheid regime and ongoing genocide”

A day would be a start.

I thought it would be an eyesore initially, but I'm going to swap the plug board for a double adapter. That way only the disk caddy and ARM machine need to go up top. Thanks for the idea.

I think that's the way to go. I'll replace the extension lead with a double adapter so the devices can be plugged straight in behind the locker. Then the other stuff can either go on a raised level or on the locker itself. Thanks.

I have an SSD bay (left), an ARM computer (Center) and a plug board (right). They’re wired together as well as to the router above. The problem is that it’s hard to clean the floor.

Is there a way to improve the setup so it’s less obtrusive? Every time we move the stuff to clean the floor the server goes down and needs a reboot. It’s such a pain.

Edit: thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm going to swap the plug board for a double adapter. That way, they can be plugged in behind the locker leaving one less thing to deal with.

I'll either put the remaining stuff on the locker or else get a raised platform / stool for underneath.

I'm finding a lot of threads with no replies and I'm wondering if openSUSE community congregates elsewhere or is it just a quiet community in general.

I’m a fan of Michael Keatons Batman. Interestingly, both the two comics and two books you see ignore Batman Returns and create their own (distinct) sequels.

I was telling someone recently about the "spoons" metaphor. I guessed they probably hadn't heard that before so before I said what I really wanted to say, I explained it. Basically, it means "unit of energy" and the idea is that we each have a different number of units each day depending on our ability / health.

In the time that it took to explain that, I could have just said what I needed to. How did it become so popular? The spoon doesn't even symbolise anything itself. So while I think it made a good visual demo when the first person presented it, I think it lands differently with people in conversation.

It is somehow reassuring to hear other people using it. It has shown me how many people struggle this way that I never realised before. But I think I'll stick with "batteries" or something that's easier to explain to people who aren't in the loop.

Thoughts?

Edit: The metaphor was invented by Christine Miserandino to illustrate her experience of lupus to someone in a café. I assume the cutlery was the best illustration device to hand in that situation and quite effective.

I prefer LTS releases usually so Tumbleweed doesn’t suit me. Slowroll sounds doable but I see it’s still experimental. Is it as reliable as Tumbleweed?

I was seeing downvotes of hundreds of thousands and in some case even millions. But that's not the case when I log in from the standard Lemmy UI. (See left of picture) Also, tens of thousands of dollars are being solicited from the app (see right) Finally, some odd spam posts appear only via this app (middle right).

I don't know if this app is abandoned, but to the users: be warned. I've switched to alexandrite.app out of safety concerns.

I use my computer for so many things and I have about 200 applications on my computer. I don't know why, but it bothers me that everything happens on this one machine as well as seeing so many app icons (even grouped into folders). It's not an option, but I'd prefer to have dedicated computers for broad categories of tasks (Audio DAW, video editing, bash scripting, web dev, gaming, system stuff like disk space visualisation, web apps for social media and video sites, games, communications, office, music and film.

So I was thinking of installing something like openSUSE in a VM on my iMac. But I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Putting CPU intensive applications onto the VM is pointless since they'll struggle more. But putting convenient apps on the VM seems like a mistake too because it means that quick utilities like calendar, voice memos, alarms, contacts etc become inconvenient.

Anyway. I miss the days when all these functions weren't service by the same hardware and screen. Does anyone who can relate have any ideas?

One thing I've done is have my music served by Navidrome on a headless server.

A) Funeral, casket and burial, or B) Get myself taxidermied ?

A pair of Long Island Trump voters visited Ireland recently. I think they were in their late 60s / early 70s. It looks like the current administration will be downsizing or disbanding the organisation their daughter works at and she'll likely lose her job.

Some other changes made by this administration mean that several of their investments are losing value. So they're very unhappy about him being in power now, although apparently the rape thing and being an overall creep was never an issue.

Anyway, Id' read that people like this exist and never actually saw / heard them before. It's real folks. They don't seem particularly bright but it seems they've done well for themselves in life.
