You know that’s a satirical article, right?

Defund highways yesterday, and let’s build free public transit everywhere, but she’s right that regressive taxes aren’t the way to win the world we want. A wealth tax (or inheritance tax, or financial transactions tax, etc) would be far preferable. To miss that and adopt policies that exacerbate the cost of living crisis (even when they serve good goals) is to fail to understand the Yellow Vest protests and their lessons entirely.

2 truths and a lie…the deep ecology movement and the Unabomber would seem to undermine your third claim

Valve’s lockin is your Steam library not being portable. A better comparison is switching from iOS to Android, or better yet Xbox to PlayStation, and having to leave behind any apps or games you purchased on one platform.

I agree that interop would be the best solution. For a brief period, GOG had a program that granted free licenses for games you already owned on Steam, verified by linking accounts. That is what has to be available for the entirety of everyone’s libraries, prospectively even if not retroactively, for there to even begin to be a level playing field.

Not sure the problem is your sister, as much as it is your conflating the fediverse with Lemmy. As others have mentioned, the appropriate response here seems to be a link to Pixelfed rather than frustration at someone using social media differently than you. You wouldn’t try to force an IG user to join Reddit if that’s not their thing.

nobody is forcing devs to release on Steam

Right, just like “nobody” is forcing retailers to sell on Amazon. Everyone is “free” to not sell on the single largest marketplace for their product which is also the first (and usually only) place the vast majority of potential customers will look for that kind of product. Get out of here with this “zero lockin” nonsense.

Jack had heard a lot about the invite-only social media group Blokes Advice when he decided to apply to become a member. The group pitches itself as a place men can go for support when life gets hard and is affiliated with Better Bloke Project, a men's mental health charity.

But Blokes Advice has also been accused of harbouring a culture of toxic masculinity. It didn't take long for Jack to experience the group's dark side firsthand.

When Jack was accepted into the group, he found all members were required to post a photo of a woman they rated a "10" for attractiveness before asking a question on the chat. He noticed the thread sometimes contained comments that were misogynistic and degrading towards women.
