I mean you're out here drinking jizzman tea??? Sounds pretty spicy ngl

Move in is the next few weeks. I've lived on my "own" (roommate I never interacted with) for a couple months my last semester of college, but that was a temporary setup whereas I'm hopefully moving out for good this time.

Bear in mind that the place has window/wall A/C and electric heating.

Things I'm already considering:

  • Drain guard
  • Bidet
  • Cold brew coffee maker
  • Rice cooker
  • Space heater? I'd like to keep the temp largely down during the winter to save money while warming up the part of the place I'm in
  • Key for washer/dryer

Things I already have:

  • Most furniture
  • Air fryer
  • Seltzer water thingy
  • Meal prep containers

General advice is also welcome!

All academic since it would never actually happen, but it seems like 3rd parties enjoy more success under parliamentary systems, and super unpopular governments can be tossed out more easily. Would things be any better?

I just got access to the benefit info for my new jobert and want to start figuring it out even if I won't be eligible for a couple more months.

There's a Gold PPO and a Platinum HMO, and the company takes care of the premium for both. The HMO is cheaper in pretty much every way (4x cheaper therapy for instance) but I know you're a lot more restricted in terms of staying in network and needing referrals.

If I go for an HMO will I have a harder time getting HRT? I'm not really looking at any surgeries in the next year, so I could switch to a PPO later if there were any network issues with that.

George Clooney: I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee.

Somewhat noteworthy given he's probably the highest profile non-politician to speak out, but the real juice is this:

It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe “big F-ing deal” Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.

I think that's the first time someone is going on the record to say they've seen him go doo-doo brain in another instance. Of course it was known that's been happening at least 15-20 times thanks to Carl Bernstein and co., but that was all on background or deep background.

so I went to my sister's 30th birthday party which was nice. got to talking with two of her college friends, both women, one of whom i got along with particularly well and found attractive. then later my sister mentions the two of them are dating.

my god, the envy that rose up in me. not even about the girl in specific, just that they get to be two pretty girls dating. suddenly i felt so trapped in how I am. Have you ever been stuck in a tight space and know struggling won't do any good, and in fact will only make it worse, but there's still the overwhelming urge to scream and thrash like an animal until you're a hot, raging heap? That's what welled up in me. And later, a certainty that things cannot go on as they are for much longer, one way or another

It's crazy to me that Helen Keller existed at the same time as the second red scare. Kinda like how MLK and Anne Frank were born in the same year

I think it should be illegal for A$AP Rocky and Aesop Rock to exist in the same genre at the same time

My modded minecraft was stuttering and eventually crashed, figured it it was either not enough RAM or an issue with the pack. Turns out it was HUNDREDS of duplicates of OmenInstallMonitor.exe eating up 99% of my 32gb of RAM. Thankfully other people had already figured out the fix so that wasn't too hard but it's just kinda crazy that such a thing can happen.

Huh

Seems like the big money has seen enough. Unless Brandon has the best interview performance in history with George Stephanopoulos tomorrow and lands a couple backflips on the way out I don't think there's a way back joever

Biden has significantly lower favorability than alternative Democrats

All alternatives would improve upon Biden’s standing against Trump, which is a change from earlier data showing all were comparable

I've talked on here about my Pixel 4a and how much I like it, but the battery life has been really dreadful as of late. I was at 900+ cycles on the stock battery so not exactly a surprise, but I didn't want to buy a new phone so replacing the battery seemed the best way forward. I got a kit from iFixit for ~$60 including an OEM battery.

I read online that it's a tough process since the 4a has a very fragile screen that's likely to break during such repairs, but everything went (mostly) fine! The iFixit guide got me most of the way there but I supplemented with a YouTube video. Hardest part was actually removing the adhesive strips keeping the battery in place, I ended up having to use isopropyl alcohol to dissolve some of the glue instead of pulling it out. Also I did kinda puncture the old battery which shot out some sparks, but it seems to be stable (currently chilling on my kitchen table until I can take it to be recycled/disposed of properly).

One thing to note about the iFixit kit is that the included adhesive strips for sticking the screen back on are kinda doodoo and likely to get stuck on the kit packaging during transit, which ruins them. I tried to make do with the remaining strips but noticed edges of the screen sticking up, so I replaced it the next day using some TESA tape I got off Amazon which seems to work great.

Overall kinda sucks that you have to jump through so many hoops, but was also somewhat satisfying to feel like I accomished something. And of course battery life is much better!
