Which was wrong. Tetanus is not caused by rust. It's caused by punctures. You can get tetanus from a perfectly metallic silver nail. If it's desiccant you could bake it at 250F for about an hour. It should turn a different color. Then if you re-wet it, it will go back to that color.

But if it's not desiccant, you might just melt some plastic or cause it to pop or something else.
