Recently had to change doctors because my old doctor decided to go pro in soccer, which would be funny except my new doctor won't just let me take the medications I've already been on for years and wants to start all over. These aren't even drugs that can be used recreationally so I don't get it. There are very few doctors in my area that take my insurance so I'm kinda stuck. The anxiety has killed my creativity recently.

But finally I just decided to play guitar without thinking and not worry about the outcome. When I stop fretting about the end result, I think I make better music. Yeah this track is mostly in mono and the kicks are drowned out by the guitar amp, but I like it anyway. The video was made using a hardware video synth called the sleepy circuits hypno, I patched it so the music would line up with what's showing up on the screen and put a webcam in front of the looping song. I'm filming the output with my phone on an old monitor to add to the nostalgic feeling.

The Lofi sound was made by slowing the loop down til it was nice and crunchy and then adding some wow and flutter on top. I used a pedal called the Blooper to do all of that and the looping.

A song title that describes the song itself.

Their lyrics are actually pretty class conscious sometimes for a band that ever flirted with any mainstream success.

I love the consistent percussive drumming of this band and the flow of their vocals.

I've been listening to "In Stasis" again; it's the album that got me into Monuments. Forgot how good Mick Gordon's mix is, as well as how good the riffs are. I feel like I can't enjoy modern Djent a lot of the time, specifically "Periphery's Djent is not a Genre" and Tesseract's "War of Being", and I can't quite understand why. In Stasis, and some of the tracks (like this one) in particular are really enjoyable in comparison. Maybe it's all Mick Gordon, and I definetly wouldn't listen to this album if I wanted something like Monuments' "The Amanuensis", but it is still really enjoyable, punchy, and aggressive. Also this track has Neema Askari on it, so vintage djent brownie points for this track specifically.

  • Vocals: Andy Cizek, Neema Askari
  • Guitars: John Browne
  • Bass: Adam Swan
  • Drums, Samples: Mike Malyan

Just realized as I'm doing credits that this band has almost no original members anymore, and all of the newer ones are really new. Swan and Malyan are no longer in the band, and Cizek joined relatively recently but has now almost been their longest-lasting vocalist. I honestly have no idea where they're (Monuments) going to go from here but it will probably be interesting, they've (Chris Baretto really) only been disappointing once.

crappy inside jokeChris Baretto really did not care when writing lyrics for "Phronesis", and no, I do not remember when the world was just a fact.

Performed by Oregon's Orchestra Next, this musical movement was made to accompany and complement the show by Eugene Ballet Company. Kenji Bunch himself wrote; "Helping to tell this hauntingly beautiful but entirely wordless story for close to two hours was, simply put, the largest undertaking of my career to date, by a longshot."

Unlike Disney's Frozen, this Ballet Performance and Orchestral accompanying piece follows closely the original fairy tale.
