At this point they've learned they can just say stuff, and a large swathe of people won't bother listening to the other side, and will get mad about it.
They don't like us dealing with China, and they're betting they can get our Conservatives mad about it without even bothering to check the facts. The obnoxious part is the non-zero chance he's right.
