"Don't date in the organization" should be at least the first hour of any orgs on-boarding meeting.

[–] itappearsthat@hexbear.net 83 points 1 year ago (4 children)

It's a hard problem. Joining orgs to meet people to sleep with is obvious wrecker behavior but often orgs are where you meet people most compatible with you. Every political party, even mainstream ones, has lots of people sleeping with each other. Humans are gonna catch feelings, especially in leftist orgs where trauma bonding from violent interactions with cops is possible. I don't have the solution really.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 53 points 1 year ago

Word. I don't think there is a solution. People working together for long periods of time, some of them are gonna bang and some of them are going to break up. Idk what to do except try to make sure that no one person is a critical point of failure, and spray-bottle anyone who is serial dating their way through the whole org.

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 44 points 1 year ago (7 children)

ok, hear me out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moiety_(kinship)

In such cases, the community usually has unilineal descent (either patri- or matrilineal) so that any individual belongs to one of the two moiety groups by birth, and all marriages take place between members of opposite moieties.

the obvious solution is to restrict relationships to being between members of the ancom moiety and the ML moiety. then you're also addressing sectarianism or something.

[–] worlds_okayest_mech_pilot@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Gonna write a remake of Romeo and Juliet, but the Montagues and the Capulets are replaced with the ML and ancom moieties

this is like IASIP episode 2 lol

[–] Sons_of_Ferrix@hexbear.net 68 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Kinda hard when so many western leftist orgs have fun events meant to attract young people.

"I can't believe people treat the DSA like a dating club! We made it clear to all the horny young people at our monthly DSA bowling tournament and karaoke mixer that inner party dating is discouraged! Why do they keep wanting to fuck each other after the quarterly bbq???"

Please fill out your C-01 form before making out with the person you've been working on a project with for three months who you've come to know and respect more than any other person during your long hours together.

There's really nothing for it. At most you try to make sure that institutional knowledge is spread around enough that a breakup can't wreck the org.

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I don't think it should be absolutely forbidden, just openly communicated about when it does (inevitably) happen so there are no surprises and the (again, inevitable) drama is minimized. Ain't no way you're gonna get a bunch of young people who work closely together often not to fuck, if you forbid it they're just gonna keep silent about it.

[–] O__O@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago (3 children)

This is absolutely correct. Undercover UK police use sex with female org members to get in with the group. Often even having children with them to maintain the pretence.

The front page of Dunk Tank having not but two posts about Zionists chastising pro-Palestinian protesters for being too chaste says a lot about the Zionist mindset.

[–] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

Zionism is stored in the balls!

are you man enough to save my husbands cum?

[–] d_cagno@hexbear.net 62 points 1 year ago

If students WERE having sex at these protests, you'd hear a bunch of complaints about how they're not taking this seriously and it's all just a big party to them.

sounds great, too many organizing efforts are ruined by people smashing and then causing drama with one another tbh especially when folks are young

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 42 points 1 year ago

Is this person really saying people should be fucking in public at a protest????

[–] EelBolshevikism@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (5 children)

do they mean you shouldn't have sex at the protest or like... in general?!??? how do you even tell someone who came to the protest has sex regularly? can they smell it or something? it has to just be a "don't fuck at the protest" rule right? it's absolutely absurd to suggest anything else

What about people in relationships that started before they joined the org?

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 66 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think they're saying "don't fuck in the protest camp".

[–] robinnn@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Why do they say you can't have food in/near tents?

[–] BioWarfarePosadist@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago

It can be hard to clean out and in outdoor long-term environments it can cause your tent to start to mold.

Wait her real name is Tahmineh The-Bozo-Orgy?

[–] Formerlyfarman@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

That whould explain why she is so concerened about the no sex rule.

She is an iranian gusano. Her name means "from a large village" . Wich is a fairly normal name. But given who she is, it makes her seem like an npc.

If I see an ex in public, I'm instantly filled with dread. Best case scenario it's someone I don't want to talk to anymore and that tension will make any encounter uncomfortable. Worst case scenario they might go monkey if they see me with someone new or know a bunch of personal shit I don't want them gossiping with others about. Even if they're totally normal and fine with it, their new partner might not be and I face the same threats from them instead.

I would hate to be in the same org as an ex. There would never be a normal working dynamic between us and there would always be at least one person with motive and means to backstab me. If I don't go to the same roller rink or climbing gym as exes, there's no way in hell I'd do something politically radical around them.

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

You do you but not everybody's relationships crash and burn like that, most people I know can stay in at least a not immediately hostile relationship with their ex.

just saying, if any friend told me that just seeing an ex, any ex, was like a "oh shit man I better just get outta here this is gonna suck" kind of situation, I would have to assume that there's a social problem with that friend. it is normal to be able to interact like a friend or acquaintance with your ex, it is not normal to be unable to go to a climbing gym if you know that any of your exes might be there.

absolutely, sometimes you end up in a relationship with a real piece of shit and you can't interact with them. but by the time you're avoiding like 3+ different exes, I've gotta assume it's your fault
