This is not part of Kerry Callen's main Super Antics comics series, but the hilarious and short-lived related series can be seen here.

Early Superman was such a jerk that I thought this was real for a moment. The "Make it stop" is perfect.

There used to be a website devoted to that called superdickery.com, but it looks like it's gone now sadly.

[–] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's tragic. That was an excellent site.

Looks like there's a tumblr of it at least, and seems like the sub on reddit is there as well. Not the same as the original unfortunately

What is this?

40s clickbait?

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You'll never guess what Superman did to Lois Lane!

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Page 12 will surprise you!

Witch doctor superman takes the cake

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To be fair, what they showed on those covers is rarely what actually happened in the comics. Not really.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Not just that, but they were often told what to put on the cover first and then make up a comic that somehow related to it.

This is why Superman is subbed to fuckcars

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

You don't really need a car if you can fly.

Although Wonder Woman can fly has an invisible airplane. Also, you can see her while she's inside it, so I don't really get the point at all.

Edit: Apparently she couldn't fly at the time. The invisible part still doesn't make much sense. I guess she just wanted everyone to think she could fly? But sitting down?

[–] isles@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Look, planes are hard to draw, OK?

I'm surprised he didn't laser beam the noisemaker

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago (2 children)

1930s Superman didn't have heat vision.

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He also took high, long jumps, didn't fly.

And no kryptonite. That was developed for the radio show because Bud Collyer, the voice of Superman, got sick and they needed a reason for him to not talk but still have Superman around, so kryptonite took his voice away.

Hah, good point!

According to this, the first issue was Superman #59, from 1949, using his "X-Ray Vision":

https://www.cbr.com/superman-first-heat-vision-usage/

And wasn't until 1961 that it was explicitly referred to as "Heat Vision".

Which I guess makes sense, because the laser wasn't invented until 1960.

That being said, I'm not sure that that's from the 1930s. That car has what I assume are supposed to be whitewall tires, which apparently existed in the 1930s but peaked in popularity in the 1950s. I'm no vintage car expert, but to me, the body styling looks more like what I get when I search for 1940s cars than either 1930s (cars were still boxier, didn't have a streamlined appearance) or 1950s (loss of the protruding tire guards or whatever those are called).

And I guess that the car alarm is probably anachronistic, but that that's intentional.

It's the "explanation" for the image on the cover of Action Comics #1, Superman's debut:

I love the look of the guy on the bottom left. That's one hell of a "holy fucking shit!" face.

Nice.

Superman is not natty. Once a while roid rage kicks in.

[–] Cyberflunk@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I feel you bro....

[–] brianorca@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Seems like a Hancock move.

[–] therealjcdenton@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 year ago

Absolutely justified response

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I like that just minutes ago a car alarm was going off outside my place because another car went by with a fucked muffler and shook the place up.

Superman is right, fuck cars.

[–] bamfic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

The hero we need.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What is the yellow thing hanging out of the engine compartment?
