If getting a Paxlovid prescription is not an option, 2 other things you can do to reduce the viral load of COVID while you are sick with it, which decreases the severity/lowers your risk of long COVID:

  • Use a mouthwash containing .07% CPC (like Parodontax or Crest Pro-Health) twice a day while you are sick [1]

  • Use a Carrageenan nasal spray like Flo nasal spray 3x per day [2].

Sources[1] Efficacy of CPC mouthwash for decreasing the viral load of COVID: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8941951/

[2] Efficacy of using a nasal spray while you have COVID to decrease the severity and make you get better faster: https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9969373

Although Paxlovid is the first/most important thing to do to decrease your likelihood of long COVID, using CPC mouthwash and nasal sprays while you have COVID is a good idea to do regardless, with or without Paxlovid.

+1 for getting paxlovid asap if you can. a comrade posted some instructions in here this fall/winter for getting a script through telemedicine that really helped me.

this wasn't it but looks helpful, I had to get mine the day before thanksgiving and paid retail for it from an out-of-network pharmacy because every pharmacy in my area was going to be closed

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Unfortunately you can't get paxlovid in Australia unless you're over 70 or immunocompromised

[–] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

sorry, forgot you're in the upside down

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

Good luck getting through this, comrade meow-hug

"Yes I was hospitalised before, but was so out of it I don't remember any details!"

[–] Tripbin@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

This is clutch advice. I can't take paxlovid because of benzos. Last time I just had to ride it out and hope for nothing too long lasting.

[–] Grebgreb@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How does a carrageenan spray compare to a spray like covixyl?

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I use both and prefer Covixyl, but I'm not aware of any ELAH nasal sprays sold in Australia

[–] CyberSyndicalist@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

why does crest mouthwash need 55 AAA batteries?

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It doesn't. A one-star review says as much

aaa batteries review

Get well soon, your shitposts mean a lot to me and I mean this sincerely

Reminder that CBD and its metabolites (but not THC, which seems to actually impair this effect) seem to both inhibit infection as well as replication after infected

Strikingly, only 1.2% of the patients prescribed CBD contracted SARS-CoV-2 whereas 12.2% of the matched, non-cannabinoid patients tested positive (p=0.009), suggesting a potential reduction in SARS-CoV-2 infection risk of approximately an order of magnitude.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7987002/#:~:text=Strikingly%2C%20only%201.2%25%20of%20the,approximately%20an%20order%20of%20magnitude.

i still think it's wild that this study exists and has essentially had 0 impact whatsoever on people taking CBD as a covid prophylactic

but like, ivermectin, hydroxyquinone or whatever? people were eating that shit up. CBD is basically one of the safest drugs that exist, so if it can cause a 90% reduction in infection incidence and severity without causing you to shit out your intestines why the fuck aren't people on this shit?? That's HUGE

Unless some studies have come out indicating that this one i've linked is bullshit I legitimately do not understand the lack of attention it gets. Breaks my fucking mind.

If nothing else you'd think the CBD industry would have run with this because aren't we massively over producing ("over producing" in the capitalist sense where they have to mulch so much of it to keep prices up) weed???

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

Ngl I kinda think my heavy weed habit (addiction? I'll face that later) has helped me dodge covid so far, along with the regular measures like masking, vaccines, being a hermit, etc.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I'm not doing it any longer, but I started vaping CBD about ~~8~~ 10 months after my infection and a whole bunch symptoms I wasn't even clocking as being covid related (GI issues, non-stop heartburn, panic attacks, issues with my running, focusing issues) turned off like a light switch. Totally anecdotal, and possibly coincidental, I know. But honestly, I'd still be vaping CBD if it didn't bring it's own mental focus related issues for me.

edit: fixed the months.

[–] piccolo@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Did the symptoms come back when you stopped vaping the CBD?

Damn, beat my record by a couple years. Get well soon, comrade. If there's any games on your Steam library you wanted to get around to, here's your chance.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

Get well soonmeow-hug

[–] radiofreeval@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Has the exhaustion hit you yet? That was always the worst part for me.

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

It was the first thing

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

Shit, that sucks

Make sure to follow the flu protocol

Lots of fluids, plenty of bedrest, if you feel faint or have trouble breathing call for help

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Surprised it's not bird flu.

j/k. Take care, comrade. Care-Comrade

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Eventually we can all be proud to have survived both at the same time

[–] PaX@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Yeahh.... survived agony-deep

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

stalin-heart I hope you feel better soon, comrade!

[–] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

The next five days are going to suck for you Im so sorry to hear, I hope you have a good irl support network, I was caught out with low supplies last time and had to get comrades to bring me food

I'm getting a covid booster soon, I hope i dont get it before then

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

Oh dang I hope you're okay. Lots of rest and fluids and hopefully this passes you by soon. Stay safe comrade

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

Even if you don't get long COVID there will still be a recovery period of a few weeks to a few months. Be careful, don't push yourself too hard. I'm sorry you got this shit. I've had it twice. It's fucking awful.

[–] Yor@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

meow-hug hope you feel better soon

In addition to things other people said, vitamin C helped manage symptoms for me. Particularly lack of appetite, fatigue/tiredness

[–] joaomarrom@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

It hit me hard when I got it. The worst part was the very high fever and brain fog working together to make me feel even dumber than normal. It didn't help at all that I was also taking prednisone which further compounds this effect for me. It was a very fucking strange couple of weeks, very surreal. Also, it took me a month and a half until I could go for a walk without feeling as sore and tired as if I'd just run a marathon. 0/10 would not recommend.

[–] piccolo@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

Good luck comrade!

Take care!!

[–] TheModerateTankie@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

Good advice in this thread.

Also: get rest and try not to push yourself physically for the next month or two, even after you feel better.

[–] booty@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

good luck comrade meow-hug

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That's poop. Hang in there, comrade. meow-hug

edit: also, be sure to take it easy for a while afterwards even after the symptoms abide.

[–] davel@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

Goddammit :(

[–] AndJusticeForAll@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

You did really well at least. I'm sorry you've been let down. Everyone here probably appreciates your COVID mitigation efforts so far. We're doing our best.

[–] take_five_seconds@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

Get well soon you stinky owl! As others have said get plenty of rest and fluids. Even sips of water are better than nothing.

Also I hope you feel better soon so you can go check out the Dungeon Keeper series

[–] usa_suxxx@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Please rest a lot and rest even more 2-3+ weeks after you feel better

Hope you're alright comrade. 💛

[–] PaX@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

I'm late to this thread but I just wanna say I really hope you feel better soon and recover with no complications meow-hug

I've only had COVID once and it was a month-long nightmare for me tbh :(

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Speedy recovery!

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago
