Have you ever looked at a map and thought, "You know what Denmark needs? More sunshine, palm trees, and roller skates." Well, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream a reality.

Let’s buy California from Donald Trump!

Yes, you heard that right.

California could be ours, and we need your help to make it happen.

The Tremendous Plan

  1. Crowdfunding Goal of $1 trillion (give or take a few billion). That’s just 200,000 kroner from every Dane. Skip a few lattes, and you’re golden.
  2. We’ll send our bestest negotiators – Lego executives and the cast of Borgen.
  3. It is in the national interest to promote the extraordinary heritage of our Nation, so California will become New Denmark. Los Angeles? More like Løs Ångeles.
  4. Danish Values: We’ll bring hygge to Hollywood, bike lanes to Beverly Hills, and organic smørrebrød to every street corner. Rule of law, universal health care and fact based politics might apply.

Måke Califørnia Great Ægain

Why not also make New York new Amsterdam again?

[–] LaminatedDenim@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Why they changed it, I can't say..

[–] nulluser@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

People just liked it better that way.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

It's Istanbul, not Constantinople

Fact-checked by Facebook.

I saw it on the web. Therefore, it has to be true.

Good idea, from what I read, Americans are constantly complaining about California anyway. About their liberalism, their woke Hollywood, weird laws, weird people and how it doesn't represent the "real America". I think they'll actually be happy they get rid of it

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago

And we'll be happy to be rid of them!

As an American midwesterner, I support the effort to buy California, and will be making my way to the state border to finally move to a better country.

Denmark suddenly becomes the 4th most powerful nation over night

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_GDP

I mean, put a small tax on it and it basically pays for itself. Don't even need to finance it upfront.

[–] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

This mere small tax is what led them to have a revolutionary war with the UK in the first place, lol

[–] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

No. This revolutionary war was not fought over taxation alone but over taxation without representation. Give California a seat or two in the danish parliament.

[–] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 2 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Why would a US state with a GDP significantly larger than the country wanting to buy it allow it to be taxed?

[–] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 4 months ago

To not to be part of the US anymore.

[–] itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 months ago

EU membership, lol

The tech companies won't like European privacy laws, tho

Consider buying US states that voted for Trump.

California is so big and economically powerful that they can make their own country if they want. And their government is anti Trump already.

Some place like Florida or the Southern states.

I dunno coast guard?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

California would donate as well

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I love SF. But they can have LA and the Chargers.

[–] gofsckyourself@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Probably would make more sense for California to buy Denmark creating a new country

[–] ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org -1 points 4 months ago (8 children)
  • Donald Trump can't sell California. At best, he could sell DC maybe.
  • What's California ever done to you? They're anti-Trump. They should be left alone. Denmark should buy Florida instead: good riddance for the US, it has nice weather too and it's at no risk of being obliterated by a giant earthquake.
[–] Kaput@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Wouldn't Californians prefer to be part of Denmark?

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago
[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 9 points 4 months ago

Florida is damaged goods. Try selling it to China, they have less standards in what they buy.

[–] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 6 points 4 months ago

We've heard the stories of "Floridaman", so no takers there.

He's probably better off where he is.

[–] itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 months ago

It's gonna sink within the next 50 to 100 years tho

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

A giant earthquake in Florida won't obliterate it, but one in Africa or Spain, and the resulting tsunami could.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago

I don't think California gives a shit what Cheeto Mussolini has to say on the matter.

[–] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 months ago

Selling Florida does track with our used-car salesman ass President.

Shame Lemon Laws don't apply internationally - caveat emptor, Denmark.

[–] EarMaster@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

But we are planning on sending that meteor to Florida...making a brand new Gulf of America...
