Let's boost this far and wide! Not interested in any "this won't work" takes - this is a battle of popular opinion, and if the public realizes that only 20 republicans stand between us and ending this crap now, that adds fuel to our movement.

Anyone who still has an R by their name is a fascist.

[–] DeusUmbra@lemmy.world 52 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You'll never find 20 fascists willing to end fascism. You're much better off telling people how many people it takes to storm the capital and overthrow the government.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Fascists are cowards, and republicans are getting yelled at by voters in droves.

Your cynicism has caused you to overlook the human desire to slink away from shitty stuff. Don't rule it out. This is a game of trying things that wouldn't ordinarily work. Whatever ends up working will be a thing like that.

[–] DeusUmbra@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Fascists are cowards, but they also love power and holding onto it no matter what. You yell at them and they just leave the room so they can pretend you don't exist, or start writing plans for how to make you not exist.

This isn't a game of throwing shit at a wall, this is a game of throwing shit in the face of the enemy. What works is what has always worked against fascists; Violence.

Protesting Nazis didn't stop Hitler. Diplomatic pressure didn't stop Hitler. Violence did stop Hitler, and Mussolini, and many other Fascists throughout history. Every time we tried to stop a fascist through peaceful methods, they stayed in power until they died of natural causes.

One Way Out, One Way Through.

Yes, yes and Mike Johnson? Uh…… no, impeach him too. Dude is worse than VP.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes and no.

Yes, he's awful and deserves it. But the closer the message is to "Destroy all Republicans", the less likely those on the fence are likely to do the right thing out of fear they'll be caught up in the beheadings.

Removing him as speaker and getting someone sane in the white house is a start.

At this point, I don't care what their party is or their opinions on the economy or Healthcare for all. Let's just start with someone who will follow the law and not disappear people to concentration camps, and have the policy debate later.

[–] ABetterTomorrow@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago

Actually didn’t think that far. Your second paragraph makes sense. Get someone to actually fix and make a difference as speaker.

[–] clonedhuman@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago

This is possible. Republicans are getting yelled at by their constituents. No one's tried to kill them yet, but they probably think that's coming soon.

I think it's possible for twenty Republicans to get on board with this.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago

And hell could freeze I suppose

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's like the king of the hill meme, "If those [republicans had souls], they'd be really upset right now". I feel like the republican party has spent the last several decades purging anyone who's not a soulless husk

[–] taxon@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

Tap for spoilerNot verbatim, but it gets the message across.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago

Conversely, every Republican who doesn't do that is guilty and should be dealt with accordingly.

Mike Johnson wouldn't do similar?

[–] ReasonablePea@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I think they cover that with step 1, elect a new speaker

Though this is still a pretty sharp change in how things are playing out at the moment.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world -5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We can absolutely give Vance a chance until he does something impeachable on his own.

The only thing I truly know about Vance is that he'll lie for power. If I don't believe anything he says, how can I know where he really stands?

[–] Lon3star@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Vance may be more vile than TFG

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago
[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not sure the speaker is any better.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Step one listed here is to elect a new speaker

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Can't read the articles? Can't even read step 1 on a list!

[–] SPRUNT@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

In order to stand up, you must first have a spine, and I don't think there's a single spine among all R's combined.

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago

You assume things aren't going according to their plan. Why would they change something that's their wet dream?

[–] MudMan@fedia.io 5 points 2 months ago

I mean, in real time this is futile, but it gives the rest of us something to point at to explain how much easier it is to go vote when you have the chance instead.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

If this happened my whole world view would crumble and I'd have to check outside to see if was raining ice cream.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] CallateCoyote@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Yep. The last of the reasonable Republicans are gone. There are no more Romneys and McCains. The party has turned on people like that. Those who are left in Congress are pure MAGA through and through and being anything less means they won’t be re-elected.

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

Republicans could have prevented this from happening. But why would they avoid exactly what they've been dreaming for decades?

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

LMAO, you're not going to find two honorable Republicans, nevermind 20!

[–] Crikeste@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

I love seeing these starry eyed doucebags suggest these Nazis have any modicum of morality and that they must “fight for what’s right”. It’s funny.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Right. This is like telling a shark that's eating you, "20 teeth could end this now!"

The 10 million Biden 2020 voters who didn't vote for Harris - or even half of them - could have ended it in November.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah, I like to fantasize as well.

[–] dryfter@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

There's a better chance of me getting put on the SSA's Death Master File so I'll no longer be a "parasite" on SSDI, Medicaid, and HUD housing. No...that's most likely going to happen....

Ok then, there's a better chance that Pantera would reform. No...wait...that already happened with good replacements for Vinnie and Dime despite how icky I feel about the whole thing.

Ok, fine....there's a better chance that pigs will fly. No...wait....Mythbusters kind of did that numerous times in a way.

There's a better chance we find intelligent life on another planet and make contact with them that is peaceful.

Point is, it ain't happening.
