I have definitely been in a group that made plans in front of me that got mad at me when I showed up because I wasn't invited.

That's really fucking sad. They sound like people that aren't worth being your friend

Coworkers. That I thought were friends. Work was a bit awkward after that.

Growing up

Babe, I'm still left out today.
A friend of mine went and did one of my favorite things and didn't invite me. lol

I'll do you one better, I was asked, on more than one occasion, what I WANTED TO Do and then was left out of those plans by the people who asked me. Also invited to things and then when I show up everyone pretends I wasn't invited, and told the text I was showing as proof was obviously sent by me to myself.

It has made me just assume that I will be excluded from things, regardless of whether I have been asked about it, or even invited to go.

When I was about 11, I had this happen to me when I was with some 'friends'. When I naturally got upset about it, all the adults (their parents) got pissy at me and told me "the world doesn't revolve around you."

Being told you invited yourself, and somehow before the event had a premonition that you would need evidence that you were invited, and sent a text to yourself beforehand, is fucking wild.

Like that's almost a compliment at that point, if you spitefully take it at face value. They're telling you you have magic powers!

Jesus christ that's rough. Fuck em dude, those people are nothing but stress waiting to happen.

Yeah, I haven't associated with any of them in 10 years. The only time I even think about them is when topics like this show up. For all I know they're all dead

Sorry that happened to you! I've cut out long term friends because they were toxic. And am so much better without them. Even if it hurts shortly, it will be better for your future. I guess you've already done that maybe but don't lose hope, there are good people out there worth your time :-)

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 3 points 1 week ago

I cut out a couple toxic people and unfortunately found out that several others were simply friends of convenience and enablers.

I've already broken enough unspoken social rules because I was never aware they existed. I already know not showing up places uninvited is one of those social rules. I'm gonna need some very strong evidence that it's either a) acceptable to show up uninvited or b) I actually am invited before I'm just randomly showing up to a random location that I may or may not be welcome.

Im both autistic and from Romania. I need to be invited twice to be able to go somewhere

I had a job where some people would loudly make plans without inviting the whole group. Not a fan. Job felt like high school sometimes.

I also had a shitty friend group in college that would do the same. Or they'd talk about how awesome the thing they did without you was.

Not in touch with any of them anymore.

I have a family (and friends) who just invite themselves when I'm having a party, so am not used to having to specifically invite people. One of my sisters in law used to complain she wasn't invited, so I did call to invite her but when I did specifically invite her she always declined.

She didn't actually want to GO to the party, that's why she wasn't going to them, she just wanted to be invited. Everyone else wanted to go to the party but didn't care about being specifically invited, as they just assumed they were welcome and showed up.

Y'all saying people uninvited you, that is crazy, I would not want to go to any event with cliquey people like that, WTF?

I've gotten to the point of my adulthood where I can ask if I'm invited when this happens. I'm probably not autistic but have hope.
