I saw a analysis of these investments a while back and the return on these is extremely low. A lot of the time they don't even go through it just become part of a recycled x created jobs blurb during political campaigns.
Asked what the announcement means for the $2.5 billion the province has offered up for capital and servicing costs to carry out the project, Ford said his government will hold Honda and other carmakers “accountable.”
“Each auto manufacturer, anything that we’ve given them, we’re going to make sure that they’re held accountable and that they continue manufacturing automobiles right here in Ontario,” he said. The federal government also pledged $2.5 billion for the project through tax credits.
Well, fuck cars. Let's build a non car-centric economic ecosystem. Trains, ebikes, bikelanes, trams.
I’m easily speculating that The Turnip’s govt is threatening these companies to stop producing in canada. He threatened Ivy League schools and law firms, so this isnt a stretch
While unlikely to happen, considering Honda already makes motorcycles and scooters, they should electrify those instead of making EVs.
Cities around the world (especially European cities) are considering restricting or outright banning cars in dense city centers so focusing on two-wheeled personal transport should be a no-brainer.
Motorcycles and scooters perpetuate expensive car infrastructure that makes life worse for everyone. The future is public transport and, as far as micro mobility goes, pedal assist ebikes.
Car companies are extremely cyclical. We are heading for a recession due to the rapid rate hike, just as we always do.
