Is there any large city where people would have responded? I don't think anyone would clap in NYC, because people who ask you to do things in public are usually mentally ill, want your money, or both, and so the normal thing to do is to pretend they don't exist.

Many people make exceptions for children in these instances.

I think the Subway in Glasgow would have a moderate chance of at least some people clapping.

I endeavor to be the person who claps his hands when a kid says it!

You ever seen a chimney sweep?

[–] Mex@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago

not sure how a chimney could hold a brush...

Londoners hate kids, apparently. Either that, or life there is so dreary and gloomy they couldn't be bothered.

British media paints the kids there as street thugs pretty much so maybe? Lol

"Kids should be scrabbling up chimneys and handling fine machinery, not being seen or heard!"

~ GB News, probably.

"Mary Poppins showed how great the life of a chimney sweep can be, and how lucky it is, would you not want that for your child?!"

~ also GB "News" probably

That's absolutelly, 100%, traditional London Tube.

It would probably have worked just fine Friday evening down at the pub but then again the kid wouldn't be allowed in.
