If you want a good Tron sequel. Just play Tron 2.0.

Let down by a weak script.

Soooo basically a Tron movie.

[–] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 hours ago

Sad but true.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Or anything featuring Jared Leto

[–] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 hours ago

Hollywood needs to understand he's a supporting actor, not a lead.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

The pinnacle of his career was getting his face punched into hamburger.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Hell basically any movie these days.

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah. Sounds good.

I'm a huge Tron fanboy. Love the movies, tv show, the videogames, etc. As a programmer I just really love that universe but I'm not optimistic for Ares. Even the soundtrack I was excited about because I loved Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack but after hearing NIN's take on it it was just...it wasn't that great and I'm also a huge NIN fan.

I don't think they should have showed Flynn in the trailers and I think they should have brought back his son and Corra. I'm probably one of the few people that actually loved Tron: Legacy, it's one of my favourite films of all time but I'm bias.

I too was a huge NIN fan for a long time. I’ve even met the band!

It’s obvious to me that using the Nine Inch Nails name is a marketing tactic because it’s Tron. It’s “cooler” to have it be Nine Inch Nails because the previous soundtrack was Daft Punk.

Trent has lived in Los Angeles way too long.

He did good work with Health.

One way to describe a franchise.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As much as I love the films, they've never really been particularly strong in the plot department

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think in the first one, the plot was for a guy inside a computer to throw frisbees at the weird cylinder thing. Loved it

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I could never get that far. I was better at Dig Dug, anyway.

Let Down By A Weak Script

Isn't it a standard now? When was the last time we got a movie with a "wow" script?

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just watched Friendship this weekend and i thought it was fantastic with excellent writing. Same with Bring Her Back. I wonder what those have in common...

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wanna watch Friendship, but there's something about it that's keeping me from watching it. Like I feel like there's gonna be some insane twist that turns it from a dark comedy to straight-up horror or something.

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's brilliant, and i promise that nothing totally sinister happens. That being said, it's like all the cringiest episodes of the office all rolled into one.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I figured there was plenty of cringe with Tim Robinson

Which, can I just say that I'm happy for him. Like he was just a writer on SNL, then was a cast member, then created his own pretty successful Netflix sketch show, and now he's onto movies.

Wow scripts are risky and thus bad for Hollywood. You should put yourself in their shoes and understand how difficult it must be for them

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was kinda let down by the soundtrack, I was thinking new NIN will be awesome, but it was ok.

[–] rozodru@piefed.social 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

same. I really like Trent's other movie soundtracks, especially The Social Network which was just fantastic. The Tron Ares soundtrack is just...meh. even by NIN album standards it's really nothing to call home about and is no where near as good as Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack.

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah I love the stuff they did for Lost Highway

[–] PillBugTheGreat@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't think that the plot is my primary motivation to go see the new NIN music video.

Alright this one got me lol

This was always going to be the case.

[–] B0NK3RS@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is exactly what most of us expected anyway so I'm looking forward to it.

[–] M137@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

But Jared Leto is the main protagonist, why would you look forward to something with that?

[–] keyez@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think you may have the wrong -tagonist but I'm also skeptical because of Leto.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

His acting is so wooden who could tell either way?

[–] B0NK3RS@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Because I enjoy the Tron universe more than the man... So I'm going to watch it.
