Simulate a holodeck.

Then simulate myself simulating a holodeck inside that holodeck.

Then...

Honestly? The first thought that goes through my head is exactly how strong and responsive the force fields can get. IIRC they can do bullets, as well as the texture and movement of anything normal. So, probably some benchmark involving a bucket of paint I brought in. Start with the paint, then do weird things with the bucket.

Probably use the processing power for something else.

Sit in silence for 4 minutes 30 seconds?

[–] TeamAssimilation 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Fuck simulations of real-life environments, I’d run a fantasy RPG campaign.

[–] mrnarwall@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would want to do so many things. I would want to do a ninja warrior type course, but with adjusted gravity or something. I'd make it into a gym with everything I need for my workout. That or maybe recreate a sports stadium and watch football from today, because I missed all of it? The possibilities are endless

This. I would really enjoy a p-e programme that scales up with me so it's always of utmost value and that's it.

Used or new?

Depends on what frame of mind I'm in. In a sufficiently devil-may-care mood, I might try and create a Moriarty. Or better, role play as one.

Or figure out how deeply it's possible to nest holodeck simulations before things get funky.

I could be a Q without any collateral damage. Torment Picard and Janeway. Get punched by Sisko. Roll it all back. Q's done the same.

Be a (male) Mary Sue in any TV show universe I've ever watched and not be judged for poor writing... Although O'Brien did appear to think he could discern sarcasm from the Enterprise computer from time to time.

And of course there's the thing that Riker, Barclay and LaForge, if not a good many of the rest of the crew almost certainly got up to in there... I'd be stupid to think I'd not try that at least once.

There are a lot of good answers, probably some good simulators of things that already exist, programs people have made... I would test the ship's AI/learning capabilities, show it some old photos of my family and of memories past and see if it can recreate things like that. Since I don't have video of these people, I'd have to fine-tune their personalities and I'd have to remind myself I'd always be looking back — being that they aren't real people, I wouldn't be able to ask them about things they don't really know about or anything like that. It would be (more) interesting if we had input from a bunch of people who knew them, to sort of fill out the personality and try to remove biases.

But yeah, I think I'd start by showing it every photo I have of my childhood home and try to go back there, just to see it again.

And yeah, you can kinda/sorta do stuff like that now, there are programs... but that's my answer.

Find some way to jam the door so that no one can ever drag me out.

Play DnD first-person

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Infinite downhill MTB track.

[–] shininghero@pawb.social 3 points 1 week ago

See if I can hook it into SteamVR and launch Resonite in there.

Might need some virtual controllers to do menu button stuff, but that should be easy.

World domination fantasy

[–] infinitevalence@discuss.online 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Reese Witherspoon....

D&D adventure complete with magic. Assuming I have a holodeck im already living in space, but if we had the tech and were not in space then after D&D it would be a Star Trek bridge explorer campaign.

[–] SparroHawc@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

I dunno, I might go for Reese Withouterspoon myself.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sit on a nice quiet beach at sunset and listen to the waves with absolutely no other people around.

First thing that came to mind was just getting to say bye to my grandpa, who got sick and passed away before I had an opportunity to visit. I know it wouldn't really be him, but I think it would be good for me to be able to get that closure.

After that, I'd probably go do some of the crazy fun stuff other folks are suggesting.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Fly a P51 or an fw190. But not before I'm sure Riker has properly cleaned up after himself; I'm bringing luminol

[–] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Aztec historical simulator.

[–] Xaphanos@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lure trump and all his Nazi cohorts into it, and disable escape. Let them live in their own fantasy hellscape and leave us alone
