Cat owners should learn the Feline Grimace Scale. It’s a way for vets to get a rough measure of how much pain a cat is in:

Certain shampoos can be extremely harmful to cats. Since cats lick themselves clean, they’ll ingest anything you put on their fur. Including shampoos or hair products. And there are countless examples of cats going into organ failure, seizing, vomiting/shitting all over the house, etc after being bathed with harmful “pet safe” products… Just because the product is safe for their skin doesn’t mean it’s safe for them to ingest.
Also, oddly enough, this obviously AI article was one of the top results when I searched for shampoo toxicity in cats. I’m only linking it because the article is a fucking wild read, which only gets wilder as the AI hallucinates more and more.

I too enjoy the crunchy texture of shampoo. Never thought of grating it though, I definitely should try that. Variety is the spice of life after all and the spice must flow.

Exceptions apply, such as after accidentally getting out and taking a tour through the local storm drain. This one happened to my boy. Wasn’t fun for any of us.

Giving cats a bath is redundant and they know that.
That very much depends on the cat and the type of coat they have. Some coat types have a tendency to get very compacted and/or matted if they aren't bathed regularly to loosen the shed hair. Some cats are unable to properly self-groom and need regular bathing. Sometimes a cat gets into something really nasty and letting them self-groom could make them very sick.
It is until it isn't.
Everyone should bathe their kitties at least once or twice just so that they know what that is. Then you do not do it again until they are adults covered in the blood of their enemies and tracking it all over the house.
They're cold. I know my dog appreciates a cozy sweater after the bath (she told me), but I usually do two because the first one can sometimes be a little damp.
