You need a car.. to buy cake...?

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Where I live it's that or walk 3 miles to the store and 3 miles back holding a cake. You can do a bike, but there's a good chance it won't look good when you get home.

I normally buy cake in a shop. This person has a very interesting car...

[–] shutz@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

A drive-through bakery!

[–] hanrahan@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, it's what American's call freedom.

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Except late onset diabetes. Enjoy it while you can.

[–] needanke@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You can stlii eat cake if you're a diabetic.

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Sure you can. You maybe shouldn't, but you absolutely can and nobody can stop you. No, diabetes won't stop you, it might just punish you. Especially if we're just talking about buying a cake, as in the OP.

[–] needanke@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Mostly yeah. Maybe not, if you bloodlucose is too high allready but usually you should be fine.

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Well that's my point, as a child unless you have type 1, you tend to be able to eat as much sugar as you want without harmful effects. Only parents hold you back.

As an adult you have no parents telling you not to do you could theoretically eat as much as you want (OPs point)... Unless you have type 2 in which case your blood glucose levels need to be considered so you can't just eat as much as you want long term.

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Also juvenile diabetes (aka type 1)

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well of course, but then you never had the possibility of eating as much as you want as an adult to begin with.

Opening hours would like to differ. Also your wallet.

[–] pHr34kY@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have a pantry and an oven. I am, at most, 45 minutes away from having cake at any given time.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Okay but this is about going to the shop and buying one.

[–] pHr34kY@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The shops are shut, and I just baked another cake because I can.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Good for you. That's why I said opening hours are what might stop OP from buying a cake.

Some places have big markets open 24/7

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

Then it's OP's distance from such places that may stop them from buying a cake.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Convenience stores often have those mccain deep n delicious cakes. Not the greatest cakes but they are cake.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Those don't exist where I live. 🤷

As I showed elsewhere in this post, diabetes does not stop you from buying a cake. It doesn't even stop you from eating it, it might just punish you later.

The best kind of correct

Classic old joke:

Guy comes into a bakery, asks for a birthday cake, but has very specific instructions: it has to be German chocolate, with rich, creamy chocolate frosting. Also he wants it in the shape of an 'S', he's very insistent on that.

And he's gonna stand there and wait until his cake is ready, so they have to make it NOW!

So the baker mixes all the ingredients, pours it into pans, and while it bakes, with the guy watching him closely, he expertly prepares the frosting. Once the cake is done baking, he takes it out, and sculpts out the S shape, using frosting to hold it together. He then covers it in frosting, gives it a nice, professional looking texture, adds some icing rosettes, and even fashions a rose out of frosting.

The baker then presents the cake to the customer, to get his approval. "Is the'S' shape to your liking?"

The guy says it looks great! So the baker brings out a cake box to pack the cake, but the customer stops him: "Don't bother boxing it. I'll be eating it here!"

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 9 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I don't get it, why the s shape?

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Honestly this far into the male loneliness epidemic, it reads less like a joke and more like a sad night for Sam.

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I think the joke is that you wouldn't expect someone to eat the cake immediately and all of the baker's work making it look good is largely wasted. Why not just make a normal sheet cake? This doesn't work as well because the original post primed us all to think about eating a cake by ourselves.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

it's the cool S. what more reason need we?

[–] not_woody_shaw@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

As long as you don't eat it too.

[–] Hudell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks for reminding me I bought cake this week and forgot to eat it.

[–] abbiistabbii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

I can literally walk and get cake. Get on my level.

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

That's only because diabetes isn't a person.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

I could, but I would almost definitely get a tummy ache

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Good timing too that laziness has set in, and also the realization that cake isn't really worth all that trouble. I'd rather have a sandwich or something. So much better tasting, guilt free, and healthier. That's my take. 🫣

[–] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

I do that.

Or make pancakes for dinner and such. Not too often, but every now and then.

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

After being in a public place I can see that most folks have their daily cake.

[–] BurnedDonutHole@ani.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Here is the winning mentality.

[–] ArgentRaven@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Except the ones you can buy at the grocery store now don't taste as good as good as the ones when you were younger. Now they're all denser with oils instead of fluffy with sugar and eggs. It's never going to hit that spot unless your make it at home. Really sad state of affairs.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Better than sawdust I guess but it's tiring fighting this ongoing enshittification of absolutely everything.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Oh yeah! I can do this!

.... I mean, I'll probably bounce a bill payment if I do, but I can do this!

Woo! Adulting!
