You're making a good argument that we should partially socialize the systems needed to support life, like agriculture, and healthcare, but I would go further and include housing and a few other things.

At that point, we are talking about a strong welfare state.

So the modern solution to all this was invented like, 90 years ago by FDR.

We need another FDR.

I live in a city that's half black, in one of several gayborhoods. I keep wondering when black and pink panthers will form and start patrolling. Probably when we get hit with our first localized stochastic terrorism incident. There's a rainbow crosswalk that rednecks love to come do burnouts on. Tensions run high with highly conservative MAGA folks dominating the rural areas just miles from our very flammable houses with rainbow flags.

But you know what happens when the panthers start patrolling? Suddenly, gun control.

Our cops wouldn't arrest them but the feds would probably escalate it. I am not sure how it'd play out today.

Everything in a Tesla is remote controllable, down to the odometer. It's through Tesla's own system but I am 100% sure that system has an Internet connection.

Heck I patched in my non-smart-car into my smarthome using an Onstar integration, I can lock and start it using Siri. Tesla's system is just a way beefier version of Onstar. I wouldn't be shocked if there was an app just for Elon to play with it all.

As Churchill said, you can't reason with a lion while your head is in its mouth.

It's way too uncanny to feel fun to me. I didn't like Carrell for a long time but it turns out he's a good actor, just got paired with a lot of unfunny material.

I lived in Seattle for a while and got used to the nudity, imagine my sadness moving to Arkansas which bans any public nudity "within view" of the opposite sex (hello gay campgrounds) - but last year I saw a lesbian go topless at Pride and I was SO happy! My straight neighbor made it a point to mention how she didn't care for that, and I'm like, it's our event lady, don't come.

Obama did a response to the film The Laundromat (which is excellent), where he said, yes this is one of the keystone problems we have, but there is not going to be a fix for it, because the people that could fix it are benefitting from it. I've never seen him quite that defeated before.

This is exactly what needs to happen again. A bold progressive president who DGAF and builds some monumental new social programs and revives a strong welfare state, taking back the word "welfare" because it's A GOOD thing to not watch your citizens starve to death in the street, and we once knew this.

He basically shredded the Hatch act his first term, there were no consequences, of course he's just gonna flat out ignore it this time.

It's fun that instead of figuring our shit out and funding the government together, we just developed regulations around shutdowns.

If you dig through the finer marketing print, it seems like this is a concept you can "lease" for the next 12 months, meaning it's not a rebrand at all, just a year of alternative packaging. But hey everyone is talking about them, so it worked.
