This has a lot less to do with introversion than it does with social anxiety

I'm such a self conscious and extremely anxious person yet I had a friend convince me to sing while he played guitar for a school presentation he needed to do for his music class. My hands literally clamped up so tight I couldn't open them for 5 minutes after lol

My social anxiety combined with an ability to sing that is overshadowed by my ability to hear when people sing off key is exactly why I sing karaoke. I belt out the songs I know I can sing (at least a little) and songs that I love because it beats the thrill of any roller coaster around. My eyes may be closed. My hands might be shaking so bad I can barely hold the mic. But... I don't know. Karaoke isn't about being good. It's not about talent. It's not about looking good for the gram. It's about being in the moment and not letting all of that bullshit silence the song in your heart. Fucking let it all out. It's like jumping out of a plane BECAUSE you have a fear of heights instead of doing it in spite of that fear.

This is a big pet peeve of mine and it does such a disservice to socially anxious extroverts

I never say I can't sing. I just won't.

Just belting out all my favorite songs on the drive home where no one can possibly hear me.

I also submit: In the car until you realize you can be seen.

Oh I can sing, I just actually know my range, and don't want to embarass myself trying to sing a song I know I can't.

And I also don't want to attempt to explain the concept of vocal range to usually drunk, usually tone deaf people.

Or, I'm uh, too polite to just laugh at you and tell your taste in music sucks.

I can't sing quietly. I can hit that note, but I don't want to annoy the other people in the car

I can't sing when I sing alone either, but nobody has to suffer!

Now when I say can't sing that is referring to tumbling over lyrics my mind knows but my mouth can't match because of a delay related to ADHD. So when I flub lyrics and nobody hears it doesn't matter. Played instruments from grade school to college perfectly fine, it isn'f pitch or anything, just the words.

My mother in law is tone deaf and doesn't know the words either so anything hearing her 'sing' is painful. Luckily she doesn't try often since we share a house to support her.
