Hahaha! First run ever that I got a wand of wishing and genuinely have nothing more I need, so I wished for a blessed figurine of an Archon and applied it, and he spawned with Demonbane and just mows down monsters like it's nobody's business. :)

I adore Nethack; there is so much to discover! Although, most of it is stuff that kills you. My first ascension was with the very reliable human Valkyrie.
Yeah it's ridiculously deep. Like I said, I played it for 30 years and I still learn new stuff all the time when I read the wiki or watch videos, like "damn! Had no clue, that is pretty smart, what a bizarre mechanism but it's perfectly logical when you think about it" hahaha!

Oh wow, you are going to spend a lot of time on the https://nethackwiki.com/, there's also a tutorial on YouTube that goes into the basics. First tip is: dying is fun! Just experiment a lot in the beginning. Start out with a dwarven valkyrie, that's the easiest class/race to play.
In the beginning you're just going to learn the controls and get used to visually id monsters and items. I don't know which version you play, I can recommend one with a visual GUI, I'm an ASCII purist myself, but the interface for vanilla Nethack is just brutal. There are variants like Fiqhack and Dynahack that come with a bunch of QoL improvements like separate windows for message history, inventory, stats et c.
It takes a very long time to learn and master (as evidenced by my 30 year journey), but there is just something to it, it is so well thought out and it has been continuously tweaked over almost 40 years, and sees plenty of people still playing it.
There's a nethack subreddit that I would recommend checking out when you have questions!

When Steam had its outage recently, I decided to go through my GOG library instead to find something to play. Noticed I had the Thief Trilogy, which I had never played, so I gave the first game a try. I wouldn't have thought that a 3d-game from 1998 would hold up so well! It pretty much does stealth as good or even better than modern games. Sound design is brilliant as well. I'm 10 hours in and quite hooked on it right now.
Love that we're all finding cool stuff we forgot about in our backlogs and saving money this year. :)
Isn't there a open source game inspired by Thief Trilogy that tries to improve upon it, with tons of community made maps.

I could be wrong, I think itβs a rare case of a game releasing with zero levels. The idea there was to let people take it and make their own levels for it (which, Iβm sure, many did)
Make sure to play the second one too! It's widely regarded as the best game in the series.
Dying Light 1 is the best one anyways - DL2 was a big step down and DL:TB was fine, but wasn't able to really "connect" to DL1 either. DL1 just had everything - great combat, great parcour, creepy nights with an actual INCENTIVE to go out (to kill bolters) - I honestly don't know why they are unable to replicate that success.

Against the Storm. Its a roguelike colony builder where you're trying to establish colonies and ship resources back to the queen before she loses patience with you.
Its not so roguelike that bad rolls ruin a run but also you have to deal with a bunch of fantasy races who each have their own needs.
Its pretty good.
Just finished Alan Wake. Not what I expected from the game but overall interesting. Somewhat like the idea of making it like a TV Show. Short but story was decent.
Despite the very standard protagonist, Dying Light was a real treat.
My Christmas game this year has been Jusant. Just got to the last chapter and it's been the perfect vibe.
Recently discovered The Division 2.
Apparently this game came out before the pandemic and also predicted it. So-so gunplay, great rpg progression so far (I'm level 23/40), and the world is insanely beautiful. I like dungeon crawlers, I like exploring, I like shooting stuff, so this game fits pretty well.
Unfortunately, it has this weird, mouse sensitivity jitter issue that seems pretty tied into framerate for some reason. I dropped my mouse polling rate way down and that helped a ton, but it's still there for whatever reason.

Dying Light 1 is one of my favorite games. Enjoy it!
Dying Light plus its dlc THE FOLLOWING are a ton of fun. The dlc is completely different from the main game e.g countryside / driving and a decent length So worth checking if you havenβt given it a spin.
Dying light is number two on my list. I am replaying factorio then I will play factorio space and then Dying light.
How is the dying light campaign?
Good so far. I'm doing a lot of the side quests, but the prologue was good without being unduly difficult, and did force me to think a little creatively.

Ghost of Yotei. Iβm not far in but itβs very good so far if you like Ghost of Tsushima.
Unless itβs Larian, itβs backlog or maybe an expansion. I havenβt even purchased the new Civ, and Iβve been playing that one since III.
I think 3 was the last one I played too. Amazing game, but they feel like Madden or Dynasty Warriors to me. There just isn't enough difference between the various entries to make it interesting for me, so I never bought any of the newer ones.
I actually liked Dying Light a lot more before the multiplayer update rebalanced everything. God damn single player game is now balanced for two people, even when you're solo.
Monster Hunter World has been loads of fun the last couple of days <3
Guild Wars Reforged, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, Trine 5 and Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution(on the deck). I find it hard focusing on a single game.
Iβve been playing Metroid Prime 4. Itβs ok, only more of what I expected, nothing incredible like Dread was for me. You can definitely feel how itβs cobbled together after being in development hell.
I finally picked up Dave the Diver on sale, looking forward to digging into that soon.
FTL is a standard holiday game fore, as well as getting people on a Total Annihilation server. Still super hard and still super awesome
There is a rumor that Dying Light 2 will be given away by Epic in the next week or so. They are giving away a different game every day right now.
On the $0 trend, I restarted Just Cause 3 as I'm generally in a bad mood these days. Very satisfying π
Started playing Amnesia: rebirth.
Kept me hooked for way longer than I planned for the day.
Iβve bought and installed Assassins Creed Rogue and have almost 20 hours in it now. Itβs basically Black Flag without the Caribbean theme

I looked at my backlog of Playstation and Steam games, and thought to myself: "I'm gonna buy No Man's Sky again, turn on cross save, and port my 200+ hour save to Steam."
I'm going through old exhibitions I missed over the last few years, and PC is the way to do it. Having spent about 12 hours on it yesterday, I'm pretty happy with my decision
I've heard a lot of good about NMS. I'll have to give it a try sometime.
It has its moments, but for me its too much of a sand box. Every planet feels the same. Every outpost feels the same, every npc feels the same. Theres no world building or serialized stories.
Browsed the steam winter sales, was tempted to purchase something, but instead remembered that I have Dishonored 2 and never played it, cause my old PC struggled a little with it. Now I'm playing through the original to refresh my memory for the sequel and I didn't spend a dime on the sale!
Dishonored 2 is awesome. You're in for a treat.
Iβm playing lost records bloom and rage, and itβs a lot of fun, I love the stand by me vibe and itβs really well put out.
