It's one of the best state in the US.

Highest life expectancy. One of the most progressive tax system. Great labor rights. Free tuition for students with a family income under $80,000. 10,000 Lakes.

There is some fraud scandal, and suddenly, it's all we hear about.

  • Trump administration talks about it 24/7. They claim some somali family stole $1 billion, $2 billion, $5 billion, $10 billion. What's the next figure? 800 billion?

  • The Murdoch family (Fox News, New York Post) talks about it 24/7

  • Elon Musk promotes "Fraud in Minnesota" content on X.

  • Joe "Rogan" and these dumbass youtube influencers show up and start saying Tim Waltz is incompetent and corrupt.

It turned into scapegoating Minnesota. One fraud scandal and it's all they talk about 24/7.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump gives pardons to convicted fraudsters and no one bats an eye.

The Senator representing Florida (Rick Scott) was criminally convicted for defrauding Medicaid and Medicare with fake invoices, but he says Minnesota is corrupt.

Go fuck yourselves

I can’t stand the hatred against Minnesota

It’s one of the best state in the US.

Highest life expectancy. One of the most progressive tax system. Great labor rights. Free tuition for students with a family income under $80,000. 10,000 Lakes.

That's why the right hates Minnesota.

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 13 points 4 days ago

Fucking lakes

[–] Finalsolo963@lemmy.blahaj.zone 59 points 4 days ago

Minnesota is an example of successful progressive policies, so right wing media and politicians lose their shit over it. Not that hard to wrap your head around.

[–] SacralPlexus@lemmy.world 42 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It’s right wing propaganda my friend. That’s it.

They’ve been doing the same thing to California for decades. Yes, CA has some real problems but these are just run on repeat 24/7 on Fox News while never mentioning the good things.

If a state leans Democratic and is doing well, they will nonstop try to tear it down because if they didn’t some of their voters might see it and start questioning things.

I moved to CA for a job and really loved my experience there. The whole time that I was there my dad (Fox-News-pilled) would talk to me on the phone and try to tell me how bad CA was. I was like seriously? I live here and you’ve never been here. How the heck are you trying to tell me how bad it is?

Most of California's problems (like most places in the US) come from the neoliberalism in our government.

They try to pretend that California is communist or some shit, but most of its affordability problems (housing prices, utility prices, etc.) come from the invisible hand(job) of the free market.

[–] SacralPlexus@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

YES. Well said.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 15 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I don't know who hates Minnesota other than the Orange Jackass. Personally I hate Louisiana, Florida, and Texas. I'm also obliged to hate New York and Los Angeles but that's just cuz I'm from Chicago.

[–] SparkyBauer44@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Stuck in Louisiana, after moving from Chicago. Can't get out fast enough when my probationary period is finished. It's horrible and unfathomably corrupt. In Chicago, when they embezzle money, there is enough revenue, that is a small impact. Here, the politicians steal whatever money there is, leaving none for roads, infrastructure, of lunch for kids. But you know damn well they fight hard the 10 commandments in public schools! 11"x24" and I'm sure on some very swanky card stock and laminated.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Seriously man, no one sane can hate Minnesota - especially coming from Massachusetts we’re all in favor of other states that care about quality of life. The Yankees though, they suck

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 1 points 2 days ago

I mean it's not perfect but it's mostly just kinda there, nobody thinks much of anything about it lol

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

as a Canadian, I know fuck all about minnesohta except what Fargo showed me. and my memory of that is that I don't hate Minnesota

now those other three you mentioned, those certainly have negative connections

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In "worst states" lists Louisiana usually bottoms out the list as the worst in almost every metric.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Oklahoma is fighting damn hard for that title.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 15 points 4 days ago

A successful Blue state, no wonder MAGA hates it.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 29 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Also Minnesota has some of the best canoeing landscapes on earth!! Never been but it doesn't seem like words or pictures can convey the intensity of beauty.

[–] Canonical_Warlock@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm a service tech headquartered in the Mississippi river valley and the the beauty of this landscape is just awe inspiring. I was born and raised here so I tend to take it for granted but there are still days where it just takes my breath away. I'll be driving my van out to some random site in the middle of nowhere and I will cut through a pass in the bluffs where I see the golden hour sunlight shining off the valley below me; it is just indescribable. I've been all over the country and the only places in the country that rival the natural beauty of our regular rural areas are actual national parks like yellowstone or the badlands.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

The badlands are kind of off-putting imo. They are cool looking, much like the surface of mars, but I don't think beautiful is the right word for me. They're too lifeless for that. Don't get me wrong, they're still worth seeing. I'm just more of a fan of traditional mountain landscapes.

[–] Caesium@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago (3 children)

As a Minnesotan, I didn't realize there was hate towards the state

[–] ngdev@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 days ago

ive literally never heard of any hate. donchaknow.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

It's the Canada of the USA.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

It may appear to be racism. I mean it is racism but they’re trying to manufacture a crisis to blame Walz

[–] dumples@piefed.social 24 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Everyone was more excited about the Walz part of the Harris / Walz ticket. So of course they want to talk shit about us.

Also we have the longest steak of voting for a Democrat in a presidential election. Every other state is just jealous. MN is the best

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah I really think this is the main reason for the sudden uptick in negative propaganda. RNC didn't want Walz being on the national ticket again in 2028.

[–] dumples@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

That and the current Democratic chairman Ken Martin ran the MN DFL for years. So lots of reasons to make up hate

[–] Moxie_empathizer@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I had a flat tire (no spare) situation while driving through Minnesota in the mid 90s. I was on a rural state rd and had to hike about a 1/4 mile back to the last house I'd passed. I knocked hoping to use a phone for a tow truck. Ladie answered the door with two babies on her hip and about 6-8 other little ones (walker types) surrounding her. I explained my situation and she handed me the keys to her only car, told me about a town 8 miles one way and a bigger one 9 miles the other way. That kindness wrapped up in under 5 minutes from the knock to me pulling out of her driveway in her car. I've never been back to Minnesota but that one experience has left the impression that Minnesota contains the best Americans that America has to offer.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

If you're getting hate from the right, it probably means you're doing right by most people.

[–] shittydwarf@piefed.social 20 points 4 days ago

Anything but Epstein

Trying to make it another Portland or Chicago for the reich wing. Their one-stop shopping for prejudicial stereotypes and “what’s wrong with America.” They’re like schoolyard bullies without an original thought that keep harping on whatever taunt that worked before.

[–] HorikBrun@kbin.earth 16 points 4 days ago

I have never heard anyone hate on Minnesota, and I think it sounds like a great place to live.

Also, I do not consume nazi controlled media.

[–] sparkles@piefed.zip 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I have actually been considering a move to Minnesota. :) It seems like a nice place.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's an awesome place, but you have to love cold weather. I like it some, but Minnesota Winter is beyond my tolerance level.

[–] sparkles@piefed.zip 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Currently in New England. The cold doesn’t bother me, the people everywhere however…yeah. Too populated for me.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Make sure you move up north then, not the cities. Duluth is a great little city.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 4 days ago

I can reassure you that I, for one, don't hate Minnesota.

In fact, I don't think about it at all, because it's a place halfway around the world I didn't even know existed. I thought Weird Al made it up as a funny-sounding place name that has a big twine ball.

[–] weariedfae@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Nowhere is perfect and there are some VALID criticisms.

Y'all have winter for 7 months out of the year. Don't you lie to out of staters and say there isn't snow in May. The only months I ain't never seen snow in is July and August and I'm pretty sure there are records of snow in July.

And it's not just any winter. I have seen the ass crack of -54F during a polar vortex. On more than one occasion it's been colder than the surface of Mars.

When it finally starts to melt you have a season dedicated entirely to ticks.

I do miss it in the summertime though. I like humidity and thunderstorms. And fireflies when there used to be fireflies.

But FUCK the mosquitoes. I literally had to sleep under mosquito netting. That's what 10,000 lakes gets ya.

Source: lived up north for way too long. Fucked off back to the land of perpetual rain where I belong. Yes, I couldn't hack it. Y'all are tough, I'll give you that.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Don't forget about the passive aggressive Lutherans!

Minnesota is awesome though, shame I had to move away.

[–] jaycifer@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

At least they won’t subject you to a Catholic wedding :P

[–] jaycifer@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Don’t worry, climate change has killed most of the mosquitos and made the winters generally more mild. Heck, a couple winters ago I didn’t even get to break out the shovel!

Nutters are great at picking something and demonizing it like the psychos they are. California, Chicago, Immigrants, Women, etc. They pick something and then fire up that 24/7 hate machine. Viewers don't get the vaunted primal propaganda portrayed by the 2-Minute Hate in 1984, they get to bathe in this bs filth all their waking hours. Thanks to fucking Reagan killing The Fairness Doctrine, these poor, stinky, uninformed victims never even get to hear another point of view.

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

The only thing I have against Minnesota is the rivalry between the Packers and Vikings...

Had one of the best times of my life up in the Boundary Waters.

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

It's one of my favorite states I've ever been to. Amazing food, amazingly friendly people, it's got it all.
