I don't really understand why people use Lemmy for porn.

It's a bit like walking around with a "Federal Boob Inspector" shirt imo.

What "what"?

I'm saying I find it baffling people use forums for porn, and in mu opinion, these people share qualities with people who walk around with shirts like this.

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

Would you be able to elaborate on those two points?

First of all, calling Lemmy or PieFed a "forum" is a stretch of the term, just like Reddit. Even so, traditional forums have been used for porn basically as long as they have existed. Reddit owes a ton of it's existence to porn. LemmyNSFW was a pretty big instance. It seems like a great platform for that content too. It's easy to split content into tags or specific communities. It's easy to host still images, text posts, gifs, full videos, pretty much anything you want.

Second, what qualities are you saying that people who use Lemmy for porn have in common with people who wear those kinds of shirts? Porn is pretty widely popular. Wearing tasteless graphic t-shirts is, in my estimation, a small sunset of the population of porn enjoyers.

Not for nothing but when people brag about not liking porn about blocking porn instances I just assumed they're the biggest perverts of all. Why else would they make a big deal about it? Just like how conservatives like to joke about cucks but then they're all into cuckolding porn. Same things with trans porn. It's like some kind of weird post-nut guilty conscience thing. My point is there's a lot of fucking perverts in this thread mouthing off for no reason.

Never cared to filter out NSFW stuff, mostly because I didn’t want to miss non-porn nsfw posts. However, I’m pretty fed up with all the porn on Lemmy polluting my feed… especially the weird anime shit. Most of it is 1-2 posts in a brand new community. It makes blocking by community challenging.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 3 points 16 hours ago

We really need classifications for NSFW (Content) and NSFW (Porn) in general.

[–] answersplease77@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

the server cost could not go on without ads or users donations. rip lemmynsfw

[–] douglasg14b@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

This is a core problem with federated software.

It's EXTREMELY high cost compared to centralized models. The cost per user is through the roof, and larger instances (Which are still absolutely miniscule on the web) can barely stay afloat with their costs.

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

It's the other admin from lemmynsfw who has taken it up.

[–] moopet@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Does this mean I have to go through blocking 9348934 communities by hand again?

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Just block the instance, it gets rid of all the communities, but not users yet.

Just remove the checkmark on "Show NSFW content" in your settings.

[–] moopet@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

I don't mind NSFW content - after all, it's a broad category - I just don't want a firehose of porn and gore. Some days that's all that's in my feed, and I have to open each one in turn to block the community.

Yea I noticed this one too. The thing here is for the users to help with the costs, otherwise it's gonna end like lemmynsfw.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 82 points 2 days ago (12 children)

AFAIK lemmynsfw ended like it did because the main admin disappeared.

[–] XiELEd@piefed.social 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ironically it demonstrates what happens when something is too centralised

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wouldn't say it was centralized. They repeatedly begged over and over for volunteers to help moderate and even administrate the instance. Nobody stepped up, it seems.

They reached out to the community. The community declined their requests.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 53 points 1 day ago

One guy stepped up as an admin. It's the owner of the new instance. He didn't have the necessary access to go in and pay the bills or have the deep server level access to fix things that went wrong.

He's got a plan for his backup admins.

I also noticed. lol

NSFW words

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I thought the issue was that the admin in charge of the domain name registration just disappeared for like a year and the other admin didn't have access to renew it. Where did you get the idea it had to do with funding?

I never used lemmynsfw much, but honestly I think things moving from Lemmy to PieFed is a positive move in general.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (16 children)

Lemmy Sync doesn't seem to work with Piefed though. I'm still sad.

What I would really like is the opposite of a porn or nsfw filter. I want a filter so I can see only nsfw posts. Do any apps have this?

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago (10 children)

Lemmy Sync will probably stop working when Lemmy 1.0 is released. It hasn't had any updates for a long time.

Sadly it's turning out to be just as terrible of a place as the last one. If things don't improve we hope it goes that way too.
